Diving in Toronto?

topic posted Thu, March 6, 2008 - 10:20 PM by  Painglass
I'll be visiting Toronto with my boyfriend for Spring break this month and I am wondering how the diving is in Toronto. Where are the good places to go? Do the thrift stores there throw things in the dumpster like that do here in Wisconsin sometimes? (Do they lock and compact dumpsters as much as they do here?) Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

Hello Painglass. I am probably too late to help you with advice about Dumpster diving in Toronto. I have been a dumpster diver in Toronto for about twenty years. Some places such as Home Depot will lock their dumpsters, but this is pretty rare. Most people in Toronto put a lot of good stuff out on the curb. Sometimes they even put a sign that says 'Free' to encourage you to take it. I got a free bicycle this way. Good dumpsters to hit are around the University of Toronto, as well as apartment buildings. Lots of people (especially students) move out and decide it is cheaper to toss it out rather than move it.
