My "fluffy" cat, Oakley, has always had some kind of skin thing going on, now it seems like her skin on her hind quarters is getting hard and when she licks it, it starts to crack and bleed (a little). I really haven't had any luck with the vet. Any suggestions? TIA, Auggie

northern california cat sitter needed

Hey everyone. I come to you today in need of someone who loves fat cats. my wife and i are finally getting out of the workforce and are planning a year long adventure around the world. the one sticking point that we are running into is finding a home for our fat cat, Fluffy. (She looks just like the Maine Coon cat on this tribe's home page) We have put out the word to all our friends and family in the area and we have a few nibbles, but nothing near concrete.

So here is my plea. She is a wonderful 10 year old Maine Coon feline. She is an outdoor/indoor but we would be willing to do just indoor for the year. She comes when you call her. She likes other dogs and gets along well with other cats. She is super mellow and likes to hang out while you watch tv or work on the computer. Don't forget, she's a cat, so she still sleeps like 16 hours a day!

Of course we would pay for all food and vet bills (if necessary) and are also offering an every other month maid service and a carpet cleaning when the year is over. If you are interested in learning more, shoot me an email. If you don't live inthe SF area but are interested in cat sitting, email me and maybe we can work something out.

I’m new to this tribe and in need of help.

I have adopted a black fat cat that someone abandoned. My problem is I've now taken' in another cat with a terminal illness (something like HIV for cats). The two cats had spent there lives together outside from what I know. How can I get them to get along. I know the black cat (Yin) feels it is her temple. The other cat (Jimmy) just wants to be friends.
Any advice other than bad advice would be appreciated.

Jesus, Buddha, and Isaiah say to feed the hungry while the Canton
Health Dept. threatens people with arrest for this action.

Please give feedback on this story to
starkhealth.org/contactus.htm
Health Dept Director: Wm J Franks
franksb@starkhealth.org

CANTON Margaret Hughes first noticed a gray cat in her 10th Street NW
neighborhood about two years ago.

Tugging at her heartstrings, the feline cried for attention and begged
for something to eat.

Unable to resist, Hughes set a food bowl outside her house. A pillow
and blanket were tucked into a wicker basket for a bed. She named the
cat Ghost, and limited the animal to the outdoors since she had an
indoor cat.

Another cat entered the picture later. She fed that one, too, once in
the morning and once in the late afternoon.

"I was just trying to save the cats from starving to death," Hughes said.

Then the 69-year-old got a notice from the Canton Health Department on
Jan. 6 ordering her to stop feeding the cats and to remove the bed. If
she doesn't comply by Monday, Hughes would be expected to show up for
a hearing, and could face up to a $100 fine and 90 days in jail, said
Law Director Joseph Martuccio.

"They always seek voluntary cooperation," Martuccio said.

Hughes, meanwhile, sees little harm in feeding the cats, saying she's
"trying to do something humane."

"I felt bad for the cats because they're on a porch meowing," she
said. "They're hungry, and I fed them."

Still, Hughes said, she's complying with the order, removing the food
bowl and bed.

(Jackie Godbey of the Humane Society in the following quote sounds more
like a dogcatcher than a humane society official)

Food dishes can attract raccoons, skunks and rats, he said. Food left
for cats also can lead to a colony of the four-legged creatures, said
Jackie Godbey, assistant director of the Stark County Humane Society.

The city and county health departments do not pick up strays. Neither
does the Stark County dog warden's office, which refers inquiries
about stray cats to the Stark County Humane Society.

The Humane Society accepts cats and puts them up for adoption, Godbey
said.

"They are the most important resource we have for cats," Wade said of
the agency.

People who have strays or want to get rid of a cat should not dump
them in rural parts of the county, Godbey said.

"They'll see a barn, a farm and they'll take (cats there), and they
don't think that 800 people have done that (in the same area) over the
years," she said.

Atkins diet for cats?

My 22-lb bruiser, Bangalore, was recently put on a kitty version of the Atkins Diet by his vet. The vet claims that kibble is too high in carbs for an indoor cat, so she wants me to feed Bangalore more wet food and less kibble. This hasn't been working out very well, because he much prefers kibble, and his brother ends up eating all of the wet food. Has anyone else had this recommendation from a vet, and has it worked?

Hi I'm new to this tribe, but I believe our "Snowbird" deserves her place on here. Just added two photo's of her kicking back watching TV and her famous "Owl and the Pussycat" pose.
Snowbird was rescued from a storm drain some 8 years ago, and we believe she was hungry down there. She hasn't stopped eating since. Hope you like her photo's.

CVMA FIGHTS FOR THE RIGHT TO MUTILATE YOUR CAT

California Veterinary Medical Association is filing a lawsuit against the city of West Hollywood to challenge the law that prevents the declawing of cats in that city. There is a gathering to protest this CVMA lawsuit. Details follow...
CVMA FIGHTS FOR THE RIGHT TO MUTILATE

The CVMA has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow, March 6, 2005 at 10 am at Laurel Pet Hospital in West Hollywood (7970 Santa Monica Blvd., 323-654-7060, at Laurel Canyon and Santa Monica Blvds.) to announce their suit against West Hollywood's ban against declawing.

Why the California Veterinary Medical Association wants to spend its time challenging the will of the 37,000 citizens of West Hollywood when it could be working to end pet overpopulation or other serious issues is as puzzling as it is disturbing.

CVMA's British brethren, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, calls declawing "mutilation." Declawing is considered unethical by almost all the veterinarians in the rest of the world.

It would be a shame if protestors spoiled their nice press conference.

what is it? what does it look like?

My fat kitty Ophelia has crusty stuff all over her head. At first I thought it was sap so I tried to wash it off but she got pissed at me and hid under the bed. It's spreading now around the backside of her head. It's crusty and gross

i've got a cat that just will not stop pissing all over the house. she uses the litter box once in a while too, but no matter what we do she basically just goes wherever she is when she gets the urge. docs have found nothing wrong with her, tried hormone pills which did nothing, tried "feliway" which made it worse...tried putting down tacks and tape and tinfoil on the floor where she goes but she just goes right on top of it!

Hi,
I'm new to this tribe and I joined to celebrate my Ophelia, queen of the house and yard. Pheeks is a hefty 12lbs. I don't really pick her up much because she has kitty arthritis and it hurts her but when she lets me, she's a hefty little tuxedo kitty. My other kitten, Indica the ankle gnawer, is young and probably less than 5 lbs. so i've got a very strange pair of cats. Oh well, they're tons of fur and love and fun :)

My hefty boy, Jason, passed away over the weekend. We were gone from Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon and when we got home, he was laying on the floor in the dining room. He looked pretty peaceful, so I hope it was an easy passing. He was 18, so I imagine he was ready to go, it seems he simply died of old age.

I've been getting more exercise lately, since mom brough home the bubble-thingy. I like things that fly, no so much chasing and pouncing, so this is great for me. Mom turns on the fan and these bubbles are suddenly everywhere! I like to chase and swat at them.
Maybe I can get from 13.5 # to 12 #. Mom said even 12 # would be better for me.

Bubble rule! As does that new pot of fresh catnip she grew for us. One leaf and I am in heeeeeeeaaaaaven!!!!

My little brother Zeke loves these things. They cost 3 for $1 at the pet store if you are lucky, but mom started buying them at Jo-Anne Fabrics- a pack of 24 is only $2.99! They come in Chirstmas-y colors. Now when they get lost under stuff, she just takes out another one for him. She keeps saying, "This is genius!!" I don't know what she means by that!

i'm thinking about making an infomercial for it!!!

Herbert weighs about 32. :D

He's down from almost 38 though, and the vet would like him at 25. He's been a variety of diet foods his whole life, but we're finally having some success with an all wet food diet. Wish us luck!

Take a look at my manatee!

they changed my food again, and this "Science Diet" low-fat stuff is awful. I heard dad say they were going to get new food, because we won't eat it. Then mom said, "Isn't that the point?"
My brother has already lost weight, but my stubborn buddha belly won't go anywhere. It doesn't bother me, but mom and dad are always petting it and kissing it and calling me "Fatty".

What's a smart, handsome guy like me supposed to do?

My son Antigone asked me to type this as he doesn't know how yet. But he's learning. He's a crazy cat with a loud voice. He suffers from anxiety now that his papa is deployed and he chases his mama up the stairs trying to attack her ankles with his teeth and claws when she tries to go to bed.

Essentially, he's a bad kitty.

He tries to beat up on his smaller brother too. But his brother Jack can leap to high places where his girth cannot follow. It makes him mad.

Hey everyone, hows it hanging? My saggy belly has been hanging more than usual lately. I dont know what to think of this, but I've lost quite alot of weight lately. I have more energy, and i can jump up on the bed without help now, but I really miss my beautiful girth.

How do I get this cat to lose weight?

we have three cats: small, medium and large. The large one is over 20 lbs. and diabetic. We've tried everything, but the older he gets, the less he does. He just lies around. We can't get him to exercise. He's on a low-cal food--but it's hard to keep him away from the other cats.

Any success stories? The vet says he's getting to look like those people you see on Jerry Springer. (I really had to laugh at that.) But she admitted he also is just really big. Big head, big bones. huge. So it's not all fat--just a lot of it.
