Hey there,
any Aussie vegos know of a brand of laksa past that doesn't contain shrimp? I found one at the weekend, "Charmaine Solomons Vegatarian Laksa Paste" but it was a hike to get it and it was $12.85 a (small) jar.
thanks

Re: Aussies! Laksa paste - no shrimp???
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 11:52 AMmaybe you can try making your own paste, substituting the shrimp with some type of replacement? I found this (non vegetarian) recipe on line:
1 teaspoon finely chopped ginger
1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
1 teaspoon finely chopped lemon grass
1 teaspoon finely chopped coriander root
2 red chillies, finely chopped
1 teaspoon shrimp paste
1 teaspoon turmeric
3 tablespoons olive oil
Place all the ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth.
maybe the shrimp paste can be replaced with miso paste? any suggestions? -
