For years I’ve had a yearning for community expression that honors and expresses an earth-centered spirituality. I’ve recently attended such a ritual and found myself home. However, I’m new to formal ritual and I wish to create an altar in my own home. I’ve googled the topic on line and the essentials seem to be: a sacred circle, a table in the center, a table cloth, four objects signifying earth, wind, air and fire. The location in my house that I’ve chosen is an area where the entire wall is already dedicated to the goddess and facing east. There is a window at the same place facing north. Are there any suggestions or observations for other factors or aspects I’m missing? Are there any recommendations where I may find some succinct and easily understood instructions for this endeavor?

Re: creating an altar
Sun, April 19, 2009 - 11:44 PMAn altar is an EXTREMELY personal thing. It is where YOU focus YOUR energies, YOUR intentions, and indeed, YOUR Majick! There really is no "cut-and-dry" method for creating an altar. It sounds to me that you have researched the basics, represent the Deities, Directions, and the "chatchkis" that you feel represent your intention for YOUR altar, in the manner which YOU feel is appropriate. YOUR altar is no-one elses business! -

Mon, April 20, 2009 - 10:37 AMThanks Cainneach for caring enough to send two such messages. Indeed, it felt like a had an inner "direction manual" for how to proceed once the basics were establshed. Rennek -

Re: creating an altar
Fri, April 24, 2009 - 5:03 PMThat's what I do... as a Capricorn Sun, and a Cancer Moon, I really haven't got a choice, but to be bossy, mother-ly, and over-protective... Hehehe!
