Crescent Moon Belly Dance Studio's Junefest Hafla will be Saturday, June 28th, at 7:00 p.m., at The Rose Marine Theater. Vintage Bellydance Combos for Soloists, Partners, and Troupes

The question was asked is this for just tribal dancers..NO WAY!!! And the combos will be explained in a way that you can adapt them to ANY bellydance style!!!

Class Description: Get cheeky with Obsidia and Nari of L'imprevu! Learn vintage bellydance combos in a small class setting that will get you moving, thinking, and creating your own combos! You will be introduced to L'imprevu combos that have been adapted for soloists, partners, and groups of three or more. Come to the class as a soloist, with your dance partner, or with your entire troupe, as this format is deisgned for everyone! Participants will walk away from this workshop with usable, adaptable combos for every style of bellydance. Notes will be provided.
Dancers should have at least six months of instruction to attend. Space is limited, so sign up soon to get a spot and take advantage of the early bird special!
You will need:~a yoga mat~bottled water~a pen and paper for additional notes

SATURDAY 10:00a WORKSHOP: "UNMATA au naturel"
This multi-level workshop will outline two tribal fusion combinations emphasizing technique and isolation. The first
combination will incorporate the building blocks of UNMATA's modern bellydance style. The second combination will focus primarily on the Hula Fusion nuance.Each movement will be outlined within a tribal cueing system so that it may be added to any troupe's choreography or tribal vocabulary. Amy will describe and drill each individual movement,then fasten them together into an accessible tribal combo that will be practiced in useful group and duet formations.
This workshop will be fun, fast, and furious. UNMATA believes in beat-your-butt technical practice, so bring water and come prepared to sweat.

This intense workshop focuses on fast! Amy's Art of Overlay is at the heart of this intermediate toadvanced bellydance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style. Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results.Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups. Then she will teach and drill an isolation combo that incorporates the artistic flare unique to Amy Sigil and UNMATA.

Because this class is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer, a sufficient understanding of balance and timing is prerequisite.

Change in class day!

well I've realized (okay sometimes I be slow..lol) that Tuesday can be conflicting for some peeps who want to take my class, only to be enrolled already in another class!!!

So, starting in February, class will be from 7:00-8:00 on WEDNESDAY night at my home studio in Bedford TX.

Want to be a slower, more controlled dancer? Aching to be more serpentine in movement?? These classes will focus on slow movements/isolations, developing pop/lock skills and creating the muscle memory to make movements look larger than life while protecting your body. We will also delve a bit into musicality-using the music to "move" you. Background in tribal/tribal fusion is recommended but NOT required.

We have a fantastic show that has everything from Tribal to Tap Dance! We are excited to have Obsidia, Just Faburlous, Veda, Tribal Evolution, and Jessica Dawn! We also have modern dancers like Dancing Mind and Bodies, Daniel Mabry, Muscle Memory, and the tap dancing troupe the Rythem Junkies. It will be an exciting night of performances!

We will also be raising money to help support the AIDS Foundation of Houston! Just as we seek for dance to cross all boundaries, we looked for a charity that crossed many boundaries. In doing so we found the AIDS Foundation in Houston. They seek to serve many people, and they have a far reaching hand. Along with ticket sales, we have had some wonderful packages donated to help us raise money so we will be having a very small silent auction in the lobby for 3 packages for a night on the town! This is a wonderful opportunity to help raise more money for The AIDS Foundation as well as grab a night on the town for you and a friend!

classes, workshops etc

Okay.....

Starting Nov 5th: Class will be from 7:00-8:30 pm every Tuesday at my home studio in Bedford TX. (If interested, message me for directions)..Cost: 10.00 per class, 40.00 for the month.
Class will involve a half hour of serious stamina and flexibility building DRILLS followed by an hour of learning movements/combinations. I will provide a syllabus handout and ask that you bring a small notebook/journal for your own notes.

WORKSHOPS!!

Well, Alchemy went well and now my juices are flowing to work on SPECIFICS....SO.....

Look for mini workshop offerings from my home studio (limit 10 people per workshop) coming in 08:

okay, so last night show (6/27) was really great overall...

Hok made me cry. Wade robson is a freakin GENIUS and that was by far my favorite routine of the night.

I thought Dominic was hysterical with the posturing after their performance, and I was impressed with their number.

I think Cedric will FINALLY go home tonight. (And I KNEW the judges would call Mia on how she "hid" Cedric's weaknesses)

I hope Jessie is okay. I felt so bad for Pasha but he really did marvelously, all things considered.

Bi-monthly "mini" workshops

This is something I'm kicking around....

Having small (as in 10 people) workshops every 2 months at my home studio in Bedford. It's a convenient locale for peeps in both Dallas area (and BEYOND!) and Ft Worth peeps (and BEYOND!). They would be small 2-3 hour workshops focusing on various parts of Raqs Gothique...A limit of 10 people would be necessary for both the space of my studio (to remain comfortable) AND to be able to give proper attention to each dancer.

*the BEYOND part is said my best Buzz Lightyear voice*

Anyways, I'm looking at this if the interest is there...I wouldn't start offering them until end of the year (December-ish) or beginning of next year...

So please SPEAK UP...would dansahs out there be up for it?

Romni/Gypsy Fusion Choreography
Romani/Gypsy Fusion is a combination of authentic Gypsy dance one would find if traveling along the ?Latcho Drom? or the ?Gypsy Road. This class will cover basic fan moves as well as basic Flamenco footwork. The class will also include a historic overview of ancient Andalusian Dance, Zambra or ?Barefoot Flamenco? and Modern Flamenco.

Tribaret Drum Solo Choreography
It’s all about the drama! Learn a dramatic and super sassy drum solo suitable for troupes or soloists of all levels. This original choreography by Rasha is packed with lots of shimmies, turns, locks, and isolations reflecting Anahata’s affection for both cabaret and tribal belly dance. Includes some floor work so bring kneepads if you got ‘em.

Elizabeth Strong: Sat. 12:30pm to 2:30pm
“9/8 Rhythms and Fancy Footwork of the Turkish Rom”
Come prepared to dance your heart out! In this class, we will cover the fundamentals of the firey 9/8 Rom rhythm, and learn basic footwork, hip work and some of the very expressive arm movements that are integral to this dance. We will watch a short clip of source footage, and cultural background will be discussed as well. All levels welcome.

“The MadIam” Formally of Domba Fame: Sat. 3:00pm to 5:00pm
SWORD’elesque
In the spirit of our forebears in American Belly dance “The MadIam” brings out the original mood of Side shows, vaudeville & traditional burlesque by a style she has developed called SWORD’elesque. SWORD’elesque is a fun and exciting escape for both belly dancers and burlesque performers ranging from the novice to the professional! The techniques are ideal for any occasion from public performances to sensual entertainment, for the solo performers, belly dance troupes and chorus girls. No Sword? Traveling? No Problem! The moves for this class are easily interchangeable for use with a sword or feather boa using a cue system (doing ATS Style bbiiiiiizzzzznatches) for improvisational dance! Get ready to be teased by joining “The MadIam”, and friends for a phenomenal course.

Take the dance back to its roots!
Inspired by the folk dances of Upper Egypt, Urban Gypsy brings you a 'brand new' (but really old!) vocabulary of sassy and earthy movement combinations from their time spent with the Gahwazee and folk dancers in Cairo last year. Hearken back to the days of dancing in the desert with Urban Gypsy. Don't forget your zills Ladies!

Was absolutely fantastic!

She taught TWO choreographies (one day fast, one day slow) and they were challenging, intricate and beautiful. She really was a great instructor, explained everything wonderfully and was SO cute because she would say "Please" when asking us to drill something.

Her performance at the gala show was breathtaking and she had one solo piece to the most hauntingly beautiful music I've ever heard..and it was made by a SAW!

She is a definite inspiration to me and I am so ahppy I had the chance to take this workshop. If you get the opportunity-TAKE IT! You won't be disappointed!!!!

My "babies" (aka my students) are doing so well learning their FIRST GBD choreography!

We started the 1st weekedn of this month and next week they'll learn the last minute of the choreo. Then practice practice til june 16 when we'll perform it at the studio's hafla...

They're so excited about performing..I'm a proud Obi Momma.....

ok so i signed up to dance at Tribal Caravan* saturday 12:50 pm* and the theme is "A Celebration of Bellydance, Tribal and beyond" well... i was looking to do a gothic piece but now im a lil scared... i have no idea what music to use... i wanted to possibly use the bloodletting{the vampire song} or perhaps some rasputina... but i want it to be dark but celebratory... hmmm... kinda contradictory.....hmm... help anyone!!!! hahaha.... my wheels are spinning now..... i know you creative types out there know what to do.... im not THAT creative... Obi.... anyone.....hahahaha

March classes

Classes will become an hour and a half long (10:45-12:15) on Saturdays starting the first weekend of March.

The first 30 minutes will be strengthening/drills/conditioning.....so be prepared to SWEAT!!!!!

The remaining hour will be dedicated to the actual Gothic Fusion BellyDance class. You will begin learning a choreography created specifically for the class.

Cost is 60.00 for the full 1 1/2 hours per month.
