Things I Liked About Rakkasah 2008

These are some of my thoughts about Rakkasah 2008, presented in no particular order.

•The location with regards to getting there. From Northern Nevada it was I-80 all the way, and then less than a ¼ mile jaunt to the hotel drive way.

•The hotel was very nice. My room was comfortable and clean and quiet. The staff was very nice and accommodating.

•Nearby convenience store for my Pepsi fix and other dining options.

•Walking distance to the event. For the most part it really was, except late at night it felt unsafe. I think that was mostly because I was in an unfamiliar area.

•Safety. Heads and shoulders above Richmond. I didn’t feel like I was going to get mugged or worse every time I stepped out of the building.

•The stages. I really liked having the side and front views of the stages. Nice to have a different perspective, instead of just straight on.

•My Rakkasah shirt, which I have already blinged up. Photos to follow.

•Taking my friend to her first Rakkasah and hearing her comments during and afterward. Always fun to see it through the eyes of a newbie.

•The afternoon sun coming in through the windows of whichever stage it was and bathing the performers in sunlight. The dancers and costumes in natural light were really beautiful.

•The Knights of Santiago. Helpful and professional as always.

•Weather for the drive home. I know no one has control over it, but it was pleasant not to have to fight a blizzard on Donner.

•The after party at the hotel was great. The band was high energy the crowd was well mannered. The military guys were a hoot. I really liked being able to hang with everyone and then know that they and I would be able to safely make it back our rooms.

•The secured location of the fairgrounds made it comfortable and nice to be able to take a breather outside and feel safe.

•Bathroom facilities a little scant, but hey, they worked and were well stocked for the most part.

•The dressing area for the dancers was nice. Great to not have to try and dodge the people in the bathroom.

This is really a biased opinion =D

I loved it all! I am a resident of Vallejo and loved the fact that Rakkasah is in my backyard. It took 10 mins to get to the fairgrounds from the boutique.

Of course there are growing pains with any new venue, but overall, I thought it was terrific. I loved the fact that I did not have to walk elbow to elbow when trying to get to a vendor's booth. I did miss having a place to sit when having my lunch, but it all worked out.

Can not wait for next year!!!

There were many things to like about Rakkasah!

No creepy neighborhood to walk through on the way to the festival.

Lots of room in both buildings for vendors and shoppers. No claustrophobia at all! ;-) Easy to see the merchandise.

I appreciate the closeness to the hotel, although since I had a rental car I chose to drive. And once you pay for parking, you can come and go.

The security guys were really efficient, and super nice. (But was the bag check really necessary??)

It was nice having a dressing room with plenty of room.

The backstage area was nice, and as usual, backstage staff was super.

Great selection of workshop teachers (even though I missed two whole days of classes because I was sick).

Rakkasah staff was very nice and helpful, but that's part of what makes this a great event. Geez, I sound like a brown-noser!

      Things I liked:

The humor in the restroom as we constantly ran out of TP. There's a story there, but I will refrain.

The security guards were super. And understandably horrified by all the estrogen :)

      The neighborhood!!!! WOOHOO!

There were AISLES! you could get past strollers!

My free surgical appraisal of my broken foot. Thanks, Dr. Jennifer.

Seeing my dance family again. At Starbucks. At Safeway. At Target. At Rakkasah. I love how there were stores close by.

YES!! I loved that there were a ton of stores/food places nearby!
The hotel staff was great and accomodating and the pool stayed open a little later than normal.

The "after parties" rak'ed!!! The hotel was nice and close and I liked that they served food. As a vendor, after the show, I'm just exhausted and having to go out to a restaurant isn't always a fun thing...so the pizza was great! And there were lots of stores across the freeway, like a Target for buying rugs to cover the asphalt floor in the building I was vending in!
I found it was't all that much further to drive which was good!
There's always a few bugs to work out for a new venue...and all in all, I'm looking forward to next year! Aruba
