I got a form for a $30 disk for photos....I thought it was for video, not photos.
We have to pay before we see the photos? I can see paying for the video, but photos before they're seen??

Re: Photo question
Wed, January 16, 2008 - 9:35 PMI noticed that too, geez. Are they not offering DVD's this year? -

Re: Photo question
Thu, January 17, 2008 - 7:31 AMIt says they are, but I haven't seen the flyer. And to be honest, the quality I got 2 years ago was not great. Everyone had the Rakkasah/camel intro, mine did not, the first 30 seconds I'm not on the DVD--it's the curtain....my friend had the same thing--suddenly the camera whizzes to her. I know it's a rough cut DVD, but I'm debating this year if the $30 is worth it again, plus $30 for a CD of photos I have not seen and will still need to edit? -

Re: Photo question
Thu, January 17, 2008 - 7:32 AMI am not criticizing the photographer--I have never been photographed by him, though I met him through Ma*Shuqa several times. It just seems...soliticious, you know?

Re: Photo question
Thu, January 17, 2008 - 3:42 PMOkay, I am confused.
Did you receive a direct solicitation from a photographer offering his/her services?
Or did this come with your Rakkasah contract/forms to mail back? I received mine yesterday (from Rakkasah), and there is a DVD order form and the usual stage manger forms to return, but nothing about a photo disk.
Rakkasah has never offered a paid photo disk option before. Not saying they aren't now--I have no idea of the inner workings!--but I wonder if this is a side solicitation for business. I have not received one, myself (which is fine!).

Re: Photo question
Thu, January 17, 2008 - 5:02 PMIt's not for a DVD--looks the same as last year, but it's for photos. I thought so, too, until I read it all the way through--a CD of photos taken by Reel Sound and Light. -

Re: Photo question
Thu, January 17, 2008 - 5:02 PMWest stage is Michael Baxter. He doesn't charge. So if you're on West Stage, that's why. -
-
Re: Photo question
Sun, January 20, 2008 - 12:32 PMEast Stage photos are by professional photographer Carl Sermon of Reel Sound and Light. Beautiful work and he allows you to pre-order your photos so he knows to take many extra exposures for you to choose from instead of enough to give me choices for the web site.
West stage photos are by art photographer Michael Baxter who takes a zillion photos of each performer and does not charge, but also does not weed the photos or retouch them for you so no preorder is needed.
Two different philosophies.
Your dancer forms should have included your Dancer Registration form, Stage Manager form, and your DVD pre-order form all stapled together. -

Re: Photo question
Sun, January 20, 2008 - 1:09 PMNo. I got the CD for $30 for photos (this is why I am taking issue--I do not pay for photos I do not see), but NOT an order form for the DVD.

Re: Photo question
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 10:25 PMThis is for East--made sure when I got home I read it right...I did. No DVD enclosure, though. -

Re: Photo question
Wed, January 23, 2008 - 5:36 AMHI Rom,
Then you are missing a form. There should be three pages stapled together the Dancer Registration, Stage Manager and DVD page. E-mail me your fax number and I'll send it over.

Re: Photo question
Tue, February 19, 2008 - 1:35 PMHi Rom,
Since you are dancing on Saturday afternoon, you can see your photos on Sunday.
You are welcome to stop by the table near the video/sound platform and see your photos
on the computer.
The photo form is a "model release" allowing photos to be posted to the Rakkasah website.
You may order photos if you wish - signature of the form does not require purchase of a
photo CD.
The photo release form was sent to let dancers know that high resolution photos are
available and provides means to contact the photographer.
Yes, you have met Carl through Ma*Shuqa, Carl's wife.
Ma*Shuqa: "Carl has been taking photos of performing dancers for 30 years. Since he knows the music and the art form he can capture the "Golden Habibi Moment" (see Ma*Shuqa's article on dance photography and performance in "The Chronicles magazine" with tips on planning your performance for your stage, lighting, audience, and photographer) - that moment in time when a dancer has full extension, a beautiful smile, veils are floating, skirts are flying, body is in perfect alignment with arms and hands. Carl captures the energy and special personality of dancers in facial expression and their performance."
See the January 2008 issue of "The Chronicles" for Carl's photos taken at Rakkasah West 2007. Also, see Carl's photos at www.Saqra.net - the official Rakkasah East and West festivals and Spring Caravan festival photos.
See you at Rakkasah West 2008. East stage, McCormick Hall.
We're looking forward to your performance.
Carl and Ma*Shuqa
