Does anyone have drawings or images of different types of retaining walls?
I'm also interested in alternative materials as retaining wall.
I need this information for a Design/Build orphanage that I'm doing in Sri Lanka.

Brad Pitt + Gehry = ?

Wowzas.

Apparently Frank Gehry has a $450 million development in Brighton, England... and Brad Pitt has taken on an apprenticeship with Gehry!

Pitt will design both a penthouse apt (with a rooftop garden) and a restaurant within that will be called the King Alfred residential and leisure complex. The two main towers of this complex are supposed to resemble crumpled Victorian dresses.

Alll this to be completed in 2010.

The fountainhead

hey guys. theres a post about a good architecture movie so here's a good architecture book i recently came across... its called "the fountainhead" by Ayn Rand, and yeah it was written with a philosophy in mind and the idea of architecture is a mere metaphor to get the point across, however it still is an amazing book. It also makes architecture more beautiful that it already is... so if u havent read it, u should :)!

Diane Keaton for Frank Lloyd Wright

FLW's Ennis House, located in the Hollywood Hills, was one of Wright's few concrete-block houses. It was constructed in 1924 and appeared in the movie Blade Runner. The rainy season last winter took a heavy toll on the house, whose restoration estimates now run as high as $15 million.

Actress Diane Keaton, a member of the LA Conservancy, took it upon herself to lead the restoration effort and turn the Ennis House into a public museum. Others in the entertainment/media business have joined her; photojournalist René Burri recently shot the house and his photograph was auctioned at Hermes in November.

Tell us hear the primary type of architecture your firm focuses on. Is the focus primary commercial or residential? Does the firm focus on a particular market? And what is the primary locale your firm focus its work.

For those that are students, tell us where your are going to school and maybe where you want to end up.

My firm focuses on commercial and will take on anything reasonable but schools. The primary locale is Maine and surrounding New England.

2. ...you KNOW what Fevicol tastes like.

3. ...you CELEBRATE space and OBSERVE your birthday.

4. ...people get nauseous just by smelling your caffeine

5. ...you think it's possible to CREATE space.

6. ...you've slept more than 20 hours non-stop in a single weekend.

7. .you're brother or sister thinks he or she is an only child.

8. ...you're not seen in public.

9. ...you lose your house keys for a week and you don't even notice.
10. ...you've brushed your teeth and washed your hair in the school's washroom.

11. ...you've discovered the benefits of having none or very short hair. You've started to appreciate inheriting baldness.

16. ...you've got more photographs of buildings than of actual people.

17. ...you've taken your girlfriend (boyfriend) on a date to a construction site.

18. ..you can live without human contact, food or daylight, but if you can't print, it's chaos.

19... when youre being shown pictures of a trip, you ask what the human scale is.

20. ...you can use Photoshop, Illustrator and make a web page, but you don't know how to use Excel.

21...you consider using broccoli for your models.

22...you consider 3AM an early night.

23...upon hearing 'supermodel', you think of a nicely crafted-foam core model.

24... you ask Santa Clause for architecture supplies.

What are internships in architecture like in the States or in other countries?

In paris, you work full or part time (20 hours per week) and get paid 30 percent minimum wage. They make you draw right away so you have to have that computer experience. Of course, it depends on where you go to work, but the minimum internship requirement is 4 months full time to become an architect. How does it work in other countries?

This is a movie made by Louis Kahn's son. It's absolutely amazing, and it really inspired me to work harder...

Something that really marked me: IM Pei says in the movie... "quality not quantity" makes an architect successful and amazing.
