Engine swap time

topic posted Fri, March 14, 2008 - 8:56 PM by  Steamboat Ed
Hoping to up-engine my art car to something less wimpy than the 1-cylinder 150cc engine it's running now. Looking for advice on how to go about it. Extra hands a plus! The goal is to produce something with enough oomph to haul a small people-barge, as that seems to be a requirement now at the DMV...

    hey steamboat,

it was good meeting you at the maker's fair.
here's the website for the company that makes engine adapters that i told you about.

    www.kennedyeng.com/

they don't list geo motor adapters online, but i think my old catalog had them listed. it's worth a call and they seemed like friendly people.
let me know if they can't help you out, as i have a few engines laying about that were on their list. they just would all be bigger and more of a pain in the ass to implement.

    good luck,
    fixit

Thanks for the link! Yeah, it would be kewl to use an 'ordinary' engine like a VW, as opposed to the wimpy little thing I'm using now. Good meeting you at the Faire too!

Update: had a chance to get my paws on a Honda Odyssey, vintage '84 with a 350cc engine so da plan now is to leave the Chinese kart as is, then mutate the Japanese one into something ...innnteresting. I had my heart set on a paddlewheel steamboat but a pal suggested I make it look like some kind of 'cruise ship' complete with mini swimming pool, hehe.

let me know if you go with a paddleboat steamer. a couple of years ago some friends and i worked out how to get the padlewheel to operate so that it looked like it was actually driving the boat. sadly, my friends took a job in LA before we could build the "Playa Queen". it still sounds like a great project to me though.
