I've got a few extra little ones, good for 20ft or so but I need at least one more of those little Cool Neon black cubes or the grey ones with the rounded edges. Can anyone bring spares to the Playa? I'll gladly barter or whatever for 'em. I'll be bringing my full soldering setup if anyone has need of same. Come find me at the Rue Morgue in the 9:00 mini esplanade.
Gotta rush; packing today, leaving tomorrow, woohoo!
PS: I've got a pile of spare CCFl drivers if anyone's in need?

Didn't get it entirely done but got it to a point where I could play an abbreviated scale with compressed air. Hope to spend the next few months perfecting the contraption.
My crew and I will be pulling out and (and definitely NOT dusting off) our various bikes and odd peddle vehicles to show outside the gallery. There's a nice outdoor cement area beside the gallery with plenty of room for funky creations and milling about.

Hey all I've been reading up over at Mutant Vehicle Social Tribe. Turns out that this was the first year where there were sooo many art cars applying for Playa licenses that something like half of them were refused, just so there wouldn't be a *traffic jam*!!
It's beginning to look like there are two things that reeeally matter if you want to get a vehicle licensed for the Playa and if you don't play by these rules you won't get to drive your sweat equity project anywhere. What matters most:
1) not being able to identify the baseline vehicle makes for a true "mutant" and everything else seems to get heaped in the "art car" category. Mutant gets precedence.
2) how many people you can carry. For smaller mutant vehicles I'm thinking the way to improve the situation is to build a trailer, to maximize load carrying. Personally I think it's getting a little out of hand with those articulated 2- and 3-decker busses that are turning up on the Playa but the DMV seems to like them because of their load carrying capacity, aesthetics be damned, sigh.
--Anyway the long and the short: I'm getting ready to build a small trailer to double or triple the people-carrying capacity of my art car and I'm probably going to do more to hide the bottom of my vehicle, which still looks vaguely vehicle-like. I've got a pal who's working on another from-scratch vehicle at my place, so I'm thinking if anyone *else* wants to hang with our small gang and knock ideas around you might want to sign on.
I've got a home workshop in Santa Rosa; anyone wanna drift by and see what we're building?

--Howdy all! Intro time: I'm "Steamboat Ed". For more on me click to my profile page, or try Google.
--My reason for starting this tribe is to try to achieve a "critical mass" of Burners, in the 707 area code, i.e. (more or less) North of the GG Bridge and extending for an arbitrary 90 minute drive North and East. If you've never been to Burning Man and are interested in learning more about it, or if you've been there and are hoping to do a little local networking, well, here's another tribe for yet another gaggle to gab.
--There doesn't seem to be much info available for folks building any kind of "mobile art" in this neck of the woods either, so I encourage postings related to the problems associated with the building of same.
--This is by no means the only Burning Man-related tribe North of San Francisco; for those who have yet to find all of them I'll try to post links to others when they spring to mind. I have no control over the list of “Connected Tribes” on the lower left of the window; at the moment these reflect some researching I’ve been doing and I don’t believe they are representative of the kinds of things other subscribers might find of interest. From time to time I’ll suggest a tribe that readers might find of interest; in time those choices should start to appear as “Connected”; until then you’re on your own! The largest tribe that others might like to check out is Santa Rosa Fire Tribe; nice bunch of people, too.
--It is my profound hope that this tribe will spiral into something that someone else will want to moderate; frankly I want to get back into my workshop and get my art car workin'!
