Traditional preparation

Cutting vegetables using a fixed blade mounted onto a metal box which collects the slicings. Such blades are also commonly attached to a plank of wood. They come in different sizes and shapes for cutting various things like meat, vegetables or for shredding coconuts.

the kind attached to wood used to be popular here in Switzerland too, around 100 years ago, then the seesaw kind was most preferred for chopping things, and the Swiss Peeler added to the shift in kitchen utensils..
