Ok so this isn't necessarily targeted to bellydancers... but I need some advice. I have a reoccuring problem with cystic acne. Although I didn't want to have to take Accutane, a few years ago it got so bad that I had no other options. I've been trying to maintain a healthy complexion using ProActive, but it has stopped working for me... I really don't want to take Accutane again (gelatin ewww - not to manage liver damage). Can anyone recommend any Acne thereapies - I've tried a lot of them so just curious how any others may fare with it.
Thanks!
Crystal

    Hi Crystal,
It is so odd that more and more adult women are complaining of acne these days....
I had very clear skin in my youth, but as soon as I turned 30ish - BOOM!
Facial explosions like I've never seen... So aweful and depressing... :(

    Anyway...
I have crazy cystic acne flare-ups too... Mostly "hormonal", but sometimes random as well. To keep it in check I use a combination of Ayruvedic Herb suppliments from: www.banyanbotanicals.com/
Their products are all vegetarian and most are organic as well.
On their website you can take a free Vikriti "Current Condition" Evaluation in which they will email you your results and herbal recommendations.
It is very cool, and the herbs I use have really helped me with balancing my skin issues and stress issues.

As for topical skin-care, I use products from Avon... Their skincare is vegetarian friendly and they do not test on animals.

Also, what haircare do you use???
We don't think of it, but what you use on your head absolutely affects your face and body...
I use a vegan shampoo and conditioner by Pureology: www.tiffanysbeauty.com/push.html
It is pure and cruelty-free, and smells amazing!

I hope these tips help. :)
    Namaste,
    Politti

I use skin care products from Ahava. Their containers are recyclable :)

I love their products because they make stuff specifically for women with sensitive skin. I use their mud mask, mineral beauty serum(to clear up post acne scarring), and mineral face cream.

I've also used their body wash, and mineral hand and foot cream. I love everything I've used by them. Some of the stuff can be a bit expensive. The mineral beauty serum costs $60, but lasts a long time. The lotion is pretty cheap-$20 for a big size bottle. When I ordered from them online, they sent me a full size bottle of body wash for free! Maybe that's because my order was over $100, but it's easy to do with Ahava.

All of their skin care products are high quality-you can't go wrong with any of it. It's one of the few things I have no problem spending money on because it makes my skin look and feel wonderful.

You can order online at www.ahave.com or look around, and see if you can find it locally. There is only one small pharmacy near me that carries some of their stuff.

Of course, there's nothing better than actually going to the Dead Sea! Your skin is left feeling so soft.

I was also on Accutane. It was awful. I remember going into health food stores and asking the people who worked their if they could recommend any alternatives to Accutane. They would always wince when I told them I was taking it.

You might want to look into some homeopathic remedies if you haven't already, or accupuncture. I'm a huge believer of both, and have had good results. Also, I know dairy is bad for your skin, so maybe if you tried switching to soy products that might help too.

    Good luck!

Thanks ladies! I appreciate the info. I don't actually eat much dairy - cheese off and on but never milk... I will look into these... YAY!

      Thanks again!

Arbonne (totally vegan, natural self-care products) has a line for acne prone skin. I used it and had great results. It includes an herbal supplement that seemed to make a lot of difference. I like Arbonne so much that I became a distributor. You can see all their products at www.arbonne.com and also get connected to a distributor in your area or I can help you order.

Yes, everything they sell is certified vegan. That's one of the reasons I love them so much. :-) And their products really are great. It's like spoiling your skin.
