I was listening to X and Y and all of a sudden heard this very familiar melody. I couldn't believe it.

But it's true: www.ledger-enquirer.com/mld/le...461.htm

  • Yeah, and the kids who listen to Coldplay have no idea where that melody came from.
    • EXACTLY Pinworm!
      No idea at ALL!

And that's the REALLY sad part!
      • Ya, it's sad and all--but apparently this is the first time they've allowed the music to be used like this. That's pretty significant. Or....maybe selling out?
        • oh, in my opinion the sellout was that "expo-2000" jingle. hope it never made it to the us...
          • YEP!
"Expo-2000" sure DID make it to the US! And I was STOKED! It was the 1st "NEW" piece of music in almost 15 yrs!
I bought it as SOON as it came out too, in 1999/2000.

Personally IMO, I think it's a VERY good song. And the 3 remixes are pretty sweet too!
IMO, It's "typical" Kraftwerk: very simple, with a basic rhythm/beat, one-line lyrics, with a cold/robotic feeling to it, yet catchy at the same time.
I feel it picks up right were they left off, 15 yrs earlier w/ Electric Cafe.
BUT, to each his own I guess.

And they were NOT selling out at ALL, because it was still Kraftwerk doing their OWN music.
Selling out is this shit with Coldplay.
If Kraftwerk actually DID give them permission to "use" their song, then THAT'S selling out IMO!!
I mean LOTS of bands have sampled Kraftwerk in their songs over the years(i.e. Erasure, PTV, Jack The Tab(Tekno Acid Beat), etc.)
Even various rappers have used Kraftwerk a lot in their songs, especially the rhythm for "It's more fun to compute".

But what Coldplay did is a WHOLE different story & I'd like to think Krafwerk had nothing to do with it.
BUT, if they DID give their "OK", then that's VERY sad!
  • (First post here, be gentle) I saaw Kraftwerk a while back in Seattle at the Paramount. It was fantastic. I've been a fan since I heard "Autobahn" back in the 70's. I always felt like they only existed in my head, as nobody I spoke with had ever heard of them, much less liked them. The concert was a big moment in my life, for several reasons I won't bore you with. They're "my band". I listen to them just about every day, and I never get tired of the blips, beeps and banging. I don't know what it is, but it calls to something deep in me. My wife is tolerant, my brother thiinks I'm nuts. I love Kraftwerk.
