Is there a connection between the popular tarot card game and astrology?
In assuming that a tarot deck has 22 atouts and 16 court cards, a surprising connection can be drawn, but first we have to introduce the reader into zodiacal astrology.
It was generally assumed that the zodiac had 12 signs, which also rose at east. In the real sky, this is far from being true. On inspection, the zodiac expands into 22 constellations, while the ascendant set follows precession. Do the 22 zodiacal stations rise at east? Not at all. In observing the present eastern horizon, we record only 16 rising constellations.
As ages slowly enfold, all 88 ascendants rise at east in their apointed epoch. Our civilization can be monitored roughly from the Age of Orion through the present Age of Cetus. The Age of Pisces embeds as it were three Ages of Cetus, namely Cetus I, II and III, according to the triple nature of this zodiacal constellation. At the end of the Age of Pisces, we can speak of a subsection called the Age of Cetus III.
The Age of Aquarius is due in approximatively 650 years from now. The end of the Age of Pisces will see the Age of Pegasus, in which Venus is due rising at east in this zodiacal constellation. Venus has the lucifugal habit of dropping from Pegasus into Cetus.
Very soon towards the end of the Age of Pisces, Venus will rise in Pegasus at east. The ascendants follow their own cycle, while precession is usually recorded by the posiotion of the Sun at spring equinox. The Sun is presently contacting the Cetus stars at spring equinox. Cetus is one of the largest zodiacal constellations. Every planet, the Earth's satellite including, enters Cetus, much as it does with Orion or Ophiuchus.
The tarot is believed to be an initiation system presumably practiced in old Egypt. At least three initiations are still available for the occultist, as represented by the first trinity of the major arcana.
The tarot has 22 atouts, which happens to coincide with the number of the zodiacal constellations of the Academic Zodiac. Conversely, the present set of eastern ascendants matches the number of the court cards.
Remarkable coincidences invite the initiate towards assigning relevant cyclic attributuions to the sets as respectively marked with 22 or 16 cards. The Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters. Several works discuss the Hebrew letter attributions within the Academic Zodiac, while number 16 is also prominent in geomancy.
In wishing an enjoyable reading in an astrologer, we invite our readers towards the new series as dedicated to the tarot attributions within the Academic Zodiac and eastern ascendant set. The publications are scheduled for Easter 2009 on lulu.com/astrology
