Building an Eco-Ark

Aloha,
The Eco-Ark Project - growing a diverse assortment of useful (food, medicinal,
fiberous)and threatened plants in order to ensure the
continuation of their species into the future.
I am Zen. I have a small 3 acre place out in the rain forest on Hawaii. I am interested in making a botanical garden/ nature preserve/ food producing park and joining with my neighbors new and old in forming a loose and independent community out there. There are a few other families out there with similar community goals and I am offering my place as a stepping stone for others to live and hopefully purchase other lots in the area in order to grow our community without having to rule and control anyone (Freedom rules)

I'm putting a small group together that want to give Hawaii a try and help plant trees and make trails and garden areas. It only requires one short day a week to cover camp space and with even a lousy job (The biggest town on the Island, Hilo, is only fifteen miles away) you can save enough to buy your own 3 acre lot in the neighborhood. Water falls from the sky out here (180"/yr) and when the changes come we have the resources to survive.

Launch date is early November, and space is limited. So contact me early if interested.

Matthew... I am doing some research on footprints and some stuff for work, and I understand what you are saying... but although it doesn't *have* to be sustainable, why not? You state that "it doesn't have to be sustainable"...

But "why shouldn't it be sustainable?" is probably a better question.

But there are those types of trolls and individuals on the board that constantly cop out to any sort of helpful or inclusive oriented material, and cop out with seemingly thinly veiled immature intellectualism... I almost suspect a couple of jaded burners meeting quietly in a room from time to time chatting about how to mitigate as much dissonance and confusion as possible. Like they are carrying a torch for a BM in the past that is quite forgone.... and instead of changing the mission statement to mirror the moment in time we live in.... they wish to stay the course of old (not unlike a current administration with the same philosophy) of radical, non directed, anarchistic, and a paganism somewhat devoid of real depth.

SO.... weird, serious, funny, and nihilistic answers are a must....

What is burning man then?

Sex farm?
techno rave?
extreme camping with friends?
fun?
art?
stupid?

whatever opinion you think you have, there will be another 500 wildly different than yours. I think this creates one nature of BM to be inherently anarchistic, and therefore will break down over time. The amount of perspectives is lovely... but falls apart with a certain critical mass... layers and layers of misread and misunderstood subtext and mission statements. This is why the jaded posse of deconstructionists seem to be willfully perpetuating some level of cognitive dissonance on these boards and at the burn.

Unfortunately... the majority of the post modernist and deconstructionist thought that pervades BRC will slowly bring it to its knees. There will always be someone to disagree with an idea, or movement, or event for no other reason than playing devil's advocate and stripping someone down.

It is much much easier to immediately strip down an idea and take it apart, than it is to immediately embrace the spirit of the idea and try to comprehend it... to try to test it, experiment with it.... to see if something is possible... than the intellectually inferior and incredibly insipid ability of these paranoid delusionals that think the Burn is only about their nihilistic, deconstructed, and child like stubborness that immediately claims, as soon as someone has an idea... a "what if"

These pseudo-intellectuals immediately stomp their feet and suggest, "YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO".

Well.. it is an organized event, with private Limited Liability Company that sets rules....

so Mathew, anyone else that knows I am talking to them... ideas can be supported, things can be accomplished, and YES.. we can tell you what to do. It is just whether the people receiving the message are self-absorbed, arrogant bastards that use tired philosophy to further their weak minded egos.

Just my two cents.
So (and here it comes)

Next year if you wanna turn off your lights during the full lunar eclipse... we will have a great moment of connection with each other. We will honour and respect the natural physical processes of the world around us.... the green nature of our 07 burn, and connect with planet and universe we are so firmly situated in, for one moment during a week where we feel like we are flying through time and space! (we are)

Thanks... just trying to research some green stuff, and BM is full of intelligent inventors that are helping to make the world a better place... and unfortunately, some of those inventions can be practically applied and business built off of it. And the Burn is one of the best resources for a dialogue about economic sustainability and the like. I read Matt's last post on that thread... and it just burns me (pun) up.

Just my thoughts....

The smug smile of satisfaction some of these people get just makes me sick. And they like that I am all uppity about it now. I know that. So good job. Toodles lovers... more soon.

how is it formed?
who's in it?
is anyone allowed in? or can be a part of?
why is the word 'community' so important? why is it used?
is the word a replacement for the 80s and 90s 'networking'?
what is it for?
doing things good things for the "greater good", or for society in general...is well, good!
but what's it's in for you?
has anyone benefited here? and how?
why does it on one level.. appear a bit, semi-cult like to me?
and even... having the affect of sealing out part of the general world we live in?
also... why do you need a "reason" to party?
why not just party for the fun, and the hell of it?
why?

i am an easterner... and have found that, 8 times out of 10... someone smiling at me
and appearing to want to help, just wanted to screw me over. is it different in the west coast?

I'm over halfway through this book, and all I can say is WOW! =)

Having immensely enjoyed his first book, "Breaking Open the Head: A Contemporary Journey into Psychedelic Shamanism", I had been anxiously awaiting the release of this book, especially after hearing a couple talks he gave outlining a few parts of his thought on 2012.

The book is an amazing collection of esoteric thoughts and traditions, imbued with a sense of intuitive leaps and synchronicities. Correlating Mayan 2012 cosmology with various other myths, archetypes, quantum physics, psychology, crop circles, consciousness studies and more, it has brought a whole new depth into my thoughts on the upcoming consciousness shift...a rocket into the Noosphere of Teilhard de Chardin.

And that's essentially what his view seems to be so far, an impending shift in the consciousness level of our planet, a breaking away from the mental-rational consciousness to a more intergrated view incorporating a new (or regained) understanding of space, time, matter, and Mind as all being part of a continuum, interwoven and interrelating, fully embodied in ourselves and our realities.

He goes pretty far out there, and definitely still has a healthy amount of skepticism...but its a fascinating journey, whatever you may make of it.

Highly recommended! =D

New Years Eve has the enormous potential to be a sychronizing agent for collective prayer. Please spread the word: New Years Eve 12 am 5 mins before and 5 mins after, keep a prayer in your mind. At that time, we can all pray for a general common dream like For the Earth to Keep Moving Towards Balance. This can be personalized in any way. I will probably be praying for better stewardship of the environment, and the like. When the clock hits 12, we can all visualize connecting to each other and ask the Universe for our intentions to manifest. When we realize that we are all connected change is inevitable! Visualization is a powerful key!

It seems that a lot of the communities we know in the Bay Area are focused on partying, dancing, music, and of course being together. Many of them are solidified into supporting one another in addition to gathering.

How can communities take it to the next level? Become a coherent network of networsk that can adapt to changes in the world?
