The following is for both general discussion in the group and for putting questions to Sherpa about the 8CB
So the wonderful exerpt from What Does WoMan Want? on deoxy.org/8origins by Leary is really a wonderful story and has done the effect of popping my noodle more than a few times, especially considering I had studied the 8cb and Leary for some years but had never heard this before.
The story goes that a tantra yoga teacher was staying as a guest at Millbrook in its heyday and causing a great stir amongst the female population theirin for his highly charged sexual emanation. After some time of wondering what he was doing there finally Leary got to speak with him. 'Professor Adams', as he was called, was a Hindu Scholar from Rutgers University who had lived a successful married and academic life but had given it all up to go seeking the secrets of Bengali Tantra in Calcutta. After finding a tantra guruji there and staying for some time and learning yogic practices and the tantric art of cultivating and concentrating sexual energy, he went back to the US in search of a perfect tantric mate. After some time, years possibly, in an ecstatic rollercoaster of sexual-spiritual adventure, which eventually led him to a state of boredom and inertia and wondering what to do or where to go next, he decided to venture back to his guruji. Upon arriving there they (him and his mate) found him sitting by the Ganga. The story goes that after some days waiting for him to have their council, he finally got up and walked towards a small shakti shrine nearby, where he pulled out an ancient manuscript. He then gave it to Adams, pointed to the West up the river and said 'Leary', and walked away. A young boy when taking them to the taxicab then instructed them that they take the very old manuscript to a Professor Leary in America.
After telling this story Adams then presented the manuscript to Leary and both men looked it through. Leary describes it containing 24 images which detail human evolutionary stages, and recounts how they realised that it was in fact a higher and lower octave of the Zodiac, starting from Pisces. The story more or less ends there (at least it does on Deoxy), but I can only assume that Leary spent some time studying the manuscript and during his time in prison finally came up with what would later become the 8 Circuit Brain model that we know today.
So. I have just now written out the corresponding signs to each of the circuits and their three individual stages of Absorb, Organise, and Communicate as put forward by sherpa in Angel Tech
As we have discussed before, this for me is no useless exercise in futile cosmic shmuckery (even thought I have finished a fine meal just now and am enjoying the pursuit) but more like a way of possibly reading, via determining the elemental and alchemical distribution (earth, fire, water, air, cardinal, fixed, mutable), the RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE CIRCUITS such as we have discussed on the AT tribe and this one. Just for now I will use the first 4 grades:
WATER:
Pisces - 1a Passivity
Cancer - 2b Status
Scorpio - 3c Articulation
FIRE:
Aries - 1b Safety
Leo - 2c Personal Power
Saigtarius - 4a Adolescence
EARTH:
Taurus - 1c Nourishment
Virgo - 3a Attention
Capricorn - 4b Adulthood
AIR:
Libra - 3b Map-Making
Gemini - 2a Self-Expression
Aquarius - 4c Collectivisation
MUTABLE: =
Pisces - 1a Passivity
Virgo - 3a Attention
Gemini - 2a Self-Expression
Saigtarius - 4a Adolescence
FIXED: -
Taurus - 1c Nourishment
Leo - 2c Personal Power
Aquarius - 4c Collectivisation
Scorpio - 3c Articulation
CARDINAL: +
Aries - 1b Safety
Cancer - 2b Status
Libra - 3b Map-Making
Capricorn - 4b Adulthood
this hopefully will insite questions such as:
Mutable, circulation: Experience?
Fixed, concentration: Integration?
Cardinal, source : Transmission?

Re: The 8CB and the Zodiac
Sun, March 8, 2009 - 9:42 AMI was initially impressed with Dr. Leary's valiant attempt to link astrology with the 8-circuit model (in his book GAME OF LIFE) but the more I studied and learned astrology, the less impressed I became. I personally don't like attempting to link divergent cosmologies together. As I have mentioned in other posts, I find that kind of pursuit of a Grand Unified Theory To Explain Everything fraught with self-delusion and a terrible waste of time. Beyond this, I supppose I can count myself out of this discussion. Good luck! -
