autism and 8-circuit brain

it seems like people with autism may have highly active 5-8 circuits and low 1-4 circuits. Most people I've encountered with autism (especially the "lower functioning" ones) have no regard for

1 - safety or material goods
2 - territory, status, ego
3 - have very very low thinking / talking / rational / communication skills (most are non-verbal)
4 - have no social skills whatsoever

Most I have encountered seem to have

5 - rapture (for no particular reason except being alive here and now), as well as stimming (sudden bodily movements done cuz they feel good or there's an overwhelming of physical sensation that needs release)
6 - psychic intelligence (widely reported and personally experienced)
7 & 8 - most seem to live in some neptunian dream state / psychedelic trance state

agree? disagree? what are the implications? comments welcome :)

2nd Circuit and Reichean Therapy

Hello everyone and Sherpa,

I have just read the article 'The NEUROPHARMACY of an EIGHT-CIRCUIT BRAIN' by Antero Alli (http://www.paratheatrical.com/pages/talkingraven/INTOXICATION.html)

I noted that Reichean Therapy is listed as an 'emotional catalyst' under the second circuit. This makes sense to me, but as I experience reichean therapy (RT) and from what I read it affects more circuits than the second one. My question is: doesn't RT stimulate the fifth and sixth circuits as well?

Circuit 6 + 7 - Metaprogramming

Anyone have any thoughts on RAW's perspective on Metaprogramming and why he thought it was a Circuit 7 activity?

In my experience it is clearly a Circuit 6 phenomena. Why do you think he saw it as C7?

Perhaps using the Autonomous Will of C6 to arrange C1-5 issues but with the energy and current of C7 ?

Periodic Table of Consciousness

So, I'm familiar with the 8-circuit brain model, and the periodic table of elements, which contains 7 families of elements, each family differentiated from the others according to its electron valence, its characteristic behavior and atomic relationship with the other elements.

As a thought-experiment, I wondered if the same be said of the circuits of consciousness, whereby, for example, different states of consciousness (i.e., trance-states, if you will) can be--with enough cultivated meditative attention--categorized according to its particular valence, depending upon which circuit (or family) under which it happens to fall... I know that, at one time, Tim Leary associated the first four circuits with terrestrial concerns, akin to the first four families of elements on the periodic table being "earth bound" or atomically heavier (i.e., falling to Earth) than the planetary atmosphere... and the second four circuits being "astral bound" having concerns with more elevated or advanced stages of consciousness development, akin to the second four families of elements on the periodic table being lighter (i.e., floating towards heaven) than planetary atmosphere...

The query explores whether, within the individual circuits, can distinctions be made such that a periodic table of consciousness can be devised to maintain a sort of zoological categorization of trance-states (entheogenic-induced or otherwise, gaia-/manifest matter-related, or imaginally/astrally concerned, etc.). This may be thought hair-splitting to some, but it was an interesting musing this afternoon, and I thought it worthy of posting for some discussion...

Metaprogramming and re-imprinting...

I'm guessing we've all read some books on metaprogramming. Some of us have probably experimented with 'metaprogramming' technologies and such. I'm just curious as to what peoples ideas are about what metaprogramming and, more especially, re-imprinting ARE...

After several years of meditation, bodywork, NLP, various ritual experiments, and a relatively small handful of slightly haphazard exogenous chemical ingestions, plus a few other bits and bobs (trying out almost any 'technique' that comes my way, and devoting a large chunk of my thinking to such subjects)... this is still a very puzzling topic to me. My 'experiments' have definitely had a deeply profound impact on my 'brain' and my life. Meditation and bodywork have taught me how to mediate my autonomic nervous system and manage + purify my emotions as well as tune and access my senses. NLP and other stuff has taught me how to shift my perceptions by changing my beliefs and conceptual frameworks and structures. Entheogens, Ritual & Meditation have taught me about evoking, invoking, & exploring various energies, emotions and archetypes. The sum total of the above is far greater perceptual and behavioural flexibility. Yay+.

Perhaps my gripe here is my memory of reading Tim Leary's Info-Psychology. He asserts that theres imprinting and conditioning, and theres a difference between the two... that conditioning takes ages and unless reinforced will eventually crumble back to the previous imprint. Imprinting & Re-Imprinting & Selective Re-Imprinting are instantaneous one-time major shifts in the brain, that are permanent.

This has been the exact opposite of my experience... my most 'permanent' changes seem to have largely resulted from long-terms practises such as meditation. e.g. several years ago i was almost constantly highly anxious and depressed, neophobic, stuck in an intellectual prison with very few friends. Today its a rare thrill to get anxious or depressed or lost deep in abstraction - i.e. years of continuous practice seems to have remoulded my 'brain' on what seems to be a relatively deep and permanent level. In contrast the few experiences i might consider to be 'imprinting' from my techniques seem to be highly situation dependent (much like a few strong interwoven anchors in NLP), that seem to be relatively easy to adjust or to fade over time... not 'one minute i'm a paranoid edgy conspiracy theorist, *BOOM* suddenly i'm a docile ecstatic hare krishna forever until the next boom.' which is the image i get from Leary and some of RAW's articulations of meta-programming & re-imprinting.

I thought maybe I just haven't done enough 'chemicals' to understand where they're coming from there, but talking to some magician-metaprogrammer friends who have done a lot more at much higher doses... they seem to be even more skeptical of Leary's re-imprinting theory.

So tell me friends... is anyone here using their brain in what timothy leary suggested was the most intelligent way - regular selective serial re-imprinting?
Or had even had any experiences that convincingly back up imprint-theory in all its sensational glory?

The 8CB and the Zodiac

The following is for both general discussion in the group and for putting questions to Sherpa about the 8CB

So the wonderful exerpt from What Does WoMan Want? on deoxy.org/8origins by Leary is really a wonderful story and has done the effect of popping my noodle more than a few times, especially considering I had studied the 8cb and Leary for some years but had never heard this before.

The story goes that a tantra yoga teacher was staying as a guest at Millbrook in its heyday and causing a great stir amongst the female population theirin for his highly charged sexual emanation. After some time of wondering what he was doing there finally Leary got to speak with him. 'Professor Adams', as he was called, was a Hindu Scholar from Rutgers University who had lived a successful married and academic life but had given it all up to go seeking the secrets of Bengali Tantra in Calcutta. After finding a tantra guruji there and staying for some time and learning yogic practices and the tantric art of cultivating and concentrating sexual energy, he went back to the US in search of a perfect tantric mate. After some time, years possibly, in an ecstatic rollercoaster of sexual-spiritual adventure, which eventually led him to a state of boredom and inertia and wondering what to do or where to go next, he decided to venture back to his guruji. Upon arriving there they (him and his mate) found him sitting by the Ganga. The story goes that after some days waiting for him to have their council, he finally got up and walked towards a small shakti shrine nearby, where he pulled out an ancient manuscript. He then gave it to Adams, pointed to the West up the river and said 'Leary', and walked away. A young boy when taking them to the taxicab then instructed them that they take the very old manuscript to a Professor Leary in America.

After telling this story Adams then presented the manuscript to Leary and both men looked it through. Leary describes it containing 24 images which detail human evolutionary stages, and recounts how they realised that it was in fact a higher and lower octave of the Zodiac, starting from Pisces. The story more or less ends there (at least it does on Deoxy), but I can only assume that Leary spent some time studying the manuscript and during his time in prison finally came up with what would later become the 8 Circuit Brain model that we know today.

So. I have just now written out the corresponding signs to each of the circuits and their three individual stages of Absorb, Organise, and Communicate as put forward by sherpa in Angel Tech

As we have discussed before, this for me is no useless exercise in futile cosmic shmuckery (even thought I have finished a fine meal just now and am enjoying the pursuit) but more like a way of possibly reading, via determining the elemental and alchemical distribution (earth, fire, water, air, cardinal, fixed, mutable), the RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE CIRCUITS such as we have discussed on the AT tribe and this one. Just for now I will use the first 4 grades:

WATER:

Pisces - 1a Passivity

Cancer - 2b Status

Scorpio - 3c Articulation

FIRE:

Aries - 1b Safety

Leo - 2c Personal Power

Saigtarius - 4a Adolescence

EARTH:

Taurus - 1c Nourishment

Virgo - 3a Attention

Capricorn - 4b Adulthood

AIR:

Libra - 3b Map-Making

Gemini - 2a Self-Expression

Aquarius - 4c Collectivisation

MUTABLE: =

Pisces - 1a Passivity

Virgo - 3a Attention

Gemini - 2a Self-Expression

Saigtarius - 4a Adolescence

FIXED: -

Taurus - 1c Nourishment

Leo - 2c Personal Power

Aquarius - 4c Collectivisation

Scorpio - 3c Articulation

CARDINAL: +

Aries - 1b Safety

Cancer - 2b Status

Libra - 3b Map-Making

Capricorn - 4b Adulthood

this hopefully will insite questions such as:

Mutable, circulation: Experience?
Fixed, concentration: Integration?
Cardinal, source : Transmission?

nuff said for now

I have a poster on my wall from the National Geographic magazine which shows the planets of the solar system we humans live in, together with other entities here on this planet and elsewhere. The _title_ of the poster is ¨8 PLANETS: The New Cosmic Order¨. I only recently realized that this might have something to do with the ¨law of octaves¨. It says on the poster, ¨Late August (1992) the International Astronomical Union approved a concise but controversial definition: A planet must orbit the sun; it must not be a satellite; it must be massive enough for its own gravity to keep it round, and also big enough to dominate its orbit.¨ In other words, the planets must have a kind of ¨cosmic autonomy¨. All this revision of the concept of a planet occurred when in observing that in Kuiper´s Belt other bodies similar to Pluto existed, leading to the removal of Pluto from the list of Planets and the modification of the definition of the word planet. I havent thought about it much but I see it more than just a coincidence, and also not one of my personal ¨synchronicties¨. I am only creating awareness about this to initiate a discussion and maybe a research into the subject maybe for a way of better understanding the 8-circuit model.

Also posted topic in the MLA forum.

My personal relationship to the 8 circuit model

I actually have no deep knowledge of any form of occult tradition or systems of self/spiritual-development. I only hold a very general knowledge of the kabbalah, thelema and chakra systems. After reading about these systems, but not engaging in the actual practice, I read Ouspensky´s writings on Gurdjieff´s teachings and used some of his methods of self obeservation to apply them to my life, which was what I was looking for; something that was practical, something which I could apply to my life immediately to change the existing conditions around me which were, and still are, not very pleasant. The first system that I actually engaged in, got invovled with, related everything in my life to, was the 8-circuit brain model which I discovered about one year ago on the deoxy.org website. Ever since that, I became very interested in how this model could hold and explain such a large amount of phenomena which I immediately observed in my personal life. What the model does for me is that it helps me become intellectually conscious of certain experiences which I could then confront, and overcome (absorb, integrate and communicate effectively), thus enabling me to expand my interaction with the universe.
8 brains are better than one!
Please note, although no boardcode and smiley buttons are shown, they are still useable

Graphic Artist Sought for Angel Tech 2

I am in the process of putting together my next book, ANGEL TECH 2 and am looking for an imaginative illustrator to provide high contrast B/W noirish graphic novel style line drawings (no halftones) to depict the various 8-Circuit Brain meditations, tasks, rituals and visions that fill this book. My first book, ANGEL TECH has been in print 23 years and I expect this second book to remain in print even longer. My plan is to send the completed book to the printer no later than August 10th. Payment negotiated according to talent, skill and availability schedule; artist-author rapport more important than money. Interested parties, please send URL with samples of your artwork to me at:

see: http://tribes.tribe.net/karmamechanics/thread/1fd373c2-7a18-4ae4-94b9-081f6ed4af83#55966f26-9623-4b7b-9f37-f19a4907a24f

For sake of theoretical discourse, where does Circuit 3 fit into the chakra map? It more or less seems to me that the circuits map to the chakras starting at the root and working up to the crown - C1-C7, but I have trouble with equating the circuit/chakra 3.... Hell, I'm not even sure if chakra 3 is in the belly (hara/tantien) or the solar plexus....

Angel Tech: 8-Circuit Brain Online, 3/16-5/10

MARCH 16 - MAY 10, 2009.
THIS IS AN INTERACTIVE ONLINE COURSE.

Based in the law of octaves and the Hindu Chakra System, The 8-Circuit Brain was revisioned as a system for intelligence increase by Timothy Leary ("Info-Psychology"), given socio-political context by Robert Anton Wilson ("Prometheus Rising") and expanded into practical applications for personal integration by Antero Alli ("Angel Tech"). The 8-Circuit Brain delineates eight interactive functions of Intelligence inherent within each of us at various degrees of latency and expression: (1) Physical, (2) Emotional, (3) Intellectual, (4) Social, (5) Somatic, (6) Psychic-Intuitive, (7) Mytho-Poetic and (8) Quantum Nonlocal intelligence.

This 8-week course is the result of a comprehensive study and practice of dynamic techniques capable of triggering actual results that can be measured, repeated and developed on your own. All eight circuits will be covered, as well as their specific internal supports and, the initiation into and out of Chapel Perilous. Once understood and redefined in your own terms, this eight circuit model can become an open-ended system for precision tracking and interpretation of signals within oneself, the world and beyond. If you are ready to test and nurture the existing conditions of your autonomy and integrity, while increasing your intelligence, this course may be for you.

6th Circuit Foraging Fun

So, while moving through the routine passed over a thousand times before, and to enter into ten thousand again, I noticed a colloquialism which I used that evoked something deeper.

Out picking mushrooms, and instructing a friend on the techniques and identification procedures, I informed him that one develops a psychic attunement to the mushrooms, to where they want to grow.

"Listen to them, they lead you directly to them"

Naturally part of this arises with experience... they like second growth forests, avoid cedar, enjoy minor slopes, etc. etc.
But even with these criteria, one can stumble obliviously and miss them entirely.
I have on more than one occasion walked directly over a log only to turn around and check underneath it to find one that would otherwise completely elude my sight.

This got me thinking;
the described Telepathy of Australian Aboriginies, their ability to dowse with merely their hands, the sensitivity to greater weather patterns...
All of these feel 6th circuit.

I certainly appreciate the 6th circuit energy-field awareness as an extension of the 2nd circuit physical-territory awareness. (Naturally both extend to realms beyond those mentioned in the example, but for brevity/clarity's sake...)

And now I wonder to what extent said circuit really remains unawakened, as opposed to generally suppressed, but quite natural and available.

It strikes me that the same truth might apply to the other 4.
Given that;
We have a body, replete with nervous system.
We result from and continuously mingle with Genetics...
and inescapably exist as part of quantum fields...

Do said circuits really requires intense focus to activate?
Or merely a gentle awareness?

Plants and the wilderness (http://deoxy.org/bewilderness.htm) seem to maintain a 6th circuit symphony.
I question the belief that said circuits require higher degrees of evolution to activate.

I enjoy basking in them in the mean time.

Antero AlliToday we are starting an exciting new series of conversations with an author, a ritualist, a film maker, a dramatist, and astrologer, and a theater director Antero Alli. These series of conversations are near and dear both to our hearts, and to the work that Antero does.

This series of conversations (3 so far to be published every week starting now) is on the topic called the 8 Circuit Brain model. It is something that Timothy Leary first brought into the western consciousness, and later Robert Anton Wilson in his book Prometheus Rising gave it a more wide spread appeal. It was further developed by Antero in his book “Angel Tech”

This conversation covers the following topics:

* History and introduction to the 8-circuit brain model
* Absorb, Integrate, Transmit: Intelligence Increase
* Embracing humility, flaws & paradox on the human journey
* Circuit 1: Bio-Survival intelligence
* Circuit 2: Emotional-Territorial intelligence
* Direct experience
* Meeting the needs of the second circuit

two more podcasts to come, over the next two sundays

And in the meantime you can also subscribe to the podcasts via iTunes and be updated on a weekly basis on various topics from NLP, hypnosis, mythology, spiral dynamics, etc

steam of thought.where does this place me?

I woke this morning finding myself in deep thought and having a talk with "god" or to "god" (as the "Creator" "Great Mystery" "Great Spirit" Jesus, Yahweh, Buddha, Mohammed, Wakntaka or whichever is the name for the Supreme being or the ONE is called to each different culture or person), does not actually answer back in the way we think anyway. I was questioning why we were here? What is the true meaning of human existence..I am still having these thoughts. Thoughts that ran through my head were not so much based on the animal part of ourselves but rather the being part of our selves as in the term Human being...so concentrating on the being..I question what is the purpose of being if the human equation is removed....rather deep thinking. Somehow this "DEEP" thinking doesn't come along for most people too often that they speak of and I was wondering if I was to seek answers to this question what "expert could I go to"? Would it be a spiritual "expert" or a psychological expert"?Or a cultural expert," perhaps a philosopher who has knowledge and is an expert in all fields.
Then I thought of purpose and paths. Most people are so caught up in the material world of being human that their being is connected to that. Most people seek love and I am one of these people too but...for most it is instinctual love that they seek to mate and to form a family of people with common experiences to share and a sense of love based on that "reality" however illusionary that might be. Being born different...I did not seek to procreate..and still then I had family and..excuse my stream of thinking..but it all is caught up in what is the purpose of life, past that of propagating a species on a human/animal level which most of the world is satisfied with...but if your born differernt.there is still the sex drive to contend with and the socialization process that each culture shares in order to have a shared "reality." We all want to be loved and love ourselves and to give love....is that a common theme of reality? and spiritual evolution..Most of the earth follow some religion which either they have grown up with or into or search out spiritual meaning that satisfies them enough to get through the physical reality of being here..why are we here....also gets into ideas of philosophy..so philosophy, religion/spirtuality, the need to procreate or to have a sex drive keep people functioning on a rather low frequency of function and keeps them docile into deeply searching for the meaning of life. Even if one is a Tibetan munk or some sort of a person who concentrates on spirituality it is the tasks of the day that keeps one going...if one has the freedom to seek this way of life. But then is the question of what culture, belief system and shared reality we all have. If I was born in Africa of course I would be African and if I was born in Italy I would be Italian...so the FREEDOM that everybody seeks is to have freedom of thought and speech and belief...but back to belief..does circumstance create a belief system or does a belief system create circumstance...if it is circumstance that creates reality...then one must have some notion that unless one chose the circumstance one has no freedom in the belief system of reality. Spiritually there doesn't seem to be a high level of evolution..all though the golden rule seems to apply to most spiritualities and organizations of religion..the dogma of such pits people against people looking at the differences in their belief system...causing war or separatism from a larger body of human beings....technology seems to have advanced faster than spirituality and the meaning of life. still stream of thought keep up with me here..there is the socialization and harsh reality to keep the human of the human being alive by means of survival.....one must have a job in order to place security no matter what illusionary reality one believes. A need for food shelter and physical needs being met. When one is engaged in survival..and what ones needs in order to be satisfied with whatever food shelter ect..that is needed is again taking away from thought of "who am I" why am I hear? What is my purpose in being here?
because as we all have jobs..we have to follow a socialized set of rules within the workplace based on keeping our jobs and thus surviving. So if you do not like your job it wears the brain out to the point of tiredness and thus it becomes more about survival than thriving and growing. If you go to college or have chosen a job you like....most people become disillusioned in their chosen field at some point because of politics ect...and are back to working for survival..and vacations and buying things that bring physical comfort..quite on a superficial level..but if one has mated and has children then there is a purpose in the suffering a job or career to provide the things for ones children so they will suffer less with material things. So there is an equation somewhere here within this stream of thought and not to exclude biology, hormones and the capacity of the human brain to think or not think...as the population grows the problems associated with survival seem to get harder..economics and jobs available to create products to satisfy or at least pacify the feelings that most people either do not have or thoughts they do not have as to the meaning of life....spirituality still has no fertile ground to evolve with if one is engaged in surviving. To mealy survive is not enough so people choose or are socialized into common experiences of joy, sports, politics, religion, art,..some choose drugs or alcohol to numb the feeling of this sense of LOST that at one time or another we all feel..the sense of loss in that I do not feel complete or whole...and as these thoughts seem to come as we grow older thus Plato and other old figures of the past..we are then beset with circumstances placed on one another as a body or culture of people...war, famine, disease, personal trauma, death of loved ones, sickness, and expectations placed on a person as culturally and socially dictated accordingly....the evolution of the spirit ,the soul, the being in the human being equation the searching for true meaning of existence is somewhat limited by personal experience. So to what point does culture and society and countries and religions and or spiritual beliefs and disciplines have to change in order for us to get any answers on the reason we are here..the reason why some are born to poverty while others are born to privilege. I think it must be easy for those who settle on an organized religion and belief system that is set in place and functions in a larger schema of reality...the more one is blinded or satisfied with conditions of survival and belief systems the more one is contented to be here and asks seldom if ever why am I hear, what does it mean to be a human being..what is my personal reason for being here? As a soul, in body on the physical plane?
I also thought if e have crossed over into questing pre conceived notions of reality and question the "GRAND illusion" of "reality"..then a person is less likely to want to participate in the controlling or popular belief system...bringing a sense of loneliness and isolation. The Human part of us has a built in need for socialization and means by which there is shared experience ect...so where does that leave me? And where does that leave the world in terms of commonalties? If everyone is an individual and yet part of a culture, society, that is not global and respectful of individuality...to the point that "what is the meaning of life and why are we here what is my, our purpose, then purpose is not a commonality shared by means of cultural differences and belief sysyems....How can we have world peace..when by means of feeling a sense of belonging is tied up in survival? As I said this is just a steam of thought. If proper housing and food were provided everyone as a human right globally..then what would people do in terms of thought.. What would their daily physical activities be? would they then evolve spiritually or would they have to evolve spiritually to get to the point of providing to each individual that which they need to fully function without working to survive. I awoke after a deep sleep and went right into deep thought. What is my purpose? How do I provide food and clothing and a roof over my head while still trying to provide a much needed need to evolve spiritually? How can I as an individual keep clear the need to seek answers when I am bogged down by a larger agreed upon "reality"? Soon I will return to the USA. In order to survive, I must find a job, then housing and survival necessities. I will be so besieged with and entrenched in this procedure. It will not be satisfying only that I feel more secure and surviving....But it will make me so tired mentally physically and emotionally..that the questions that I really need answered will be lost again in exhaustion from survival. I apologize for sharing this stream of thought....But somewhere within it lies an answer to the problems of the world and world peace.
Any intelligent response would help me to further understand a WORLD, that is coming to an end as we know it. For if there is no large scale spiritual evolution...then after world change survival will once again be the necessity that takes over.
People now starving under famine are surely not thinking about the meaning of life and spiritual evolution...they are thinking about food! How to feed their children! How to battle disease,
wonder if anyone else has thoughts such as this, my stream of writing and could advise me as to how to except my reality, while also including helping the world as a global community.

Okay this is a good topic .LOL!
I suppose sometimes it takes an ugly grmlin to make a point..
I was reading a post on another tribe and just couldn't commit to saying that certain things in my chart make or describe a part of me that is bad -I don't think I am bad or good but rather I make choices to my actions that may further describe me to others. The things I do are not me but rather my creative process. Is this what the map and territory thing means ?
" Consciously Breathing here "Never quite got that quote before -the words would only come at me like a distant echoing circus Barker before today.

New (old) Moderator Intro

Rustic Rambler has graciously returned moderator duties to myself after a prolonged hiatus. During this break, I made a movie called "The Invisible Forest", had some fun and also started another tribe with a more narrow focus of the 8-circuit brain material that you are all also invited to join if you wish. http://tribes.tribe.net/karmamechanics

My aim as moderator is to help this tribe stay the course of its originating intent and vision towards the exploration of theories and practices related to the 8-Circuit Brain model as written by Timothy Leary, Bob Wilson and myself. It was in this spirit that I just deleted numerous threads here that hurled the focus far and away from this originating purpose.

As I continue teaching this system at Maybe Logic Academy and elsewhere, I find myself knowing less and less. Call it the "don't know mind" or C-6 uncertainty as wisdom. The eloquence and depth of this numin grid continues to humble. I am glad to be back here, posting the results of my research and continuing the dialogue.

8-Circuit Brain online course starts March 3 at MLA

I have been working with the 8-Circuit Brain model for intelligence increase since 1980 and a couple years ago, I started teaching an online course in this process. It's based on my 1987 book, ANGEL TECH. The next version of my 8-week intensive course starts March 3rd.

This is a hands-on experiential approach that emphasizes safe activation of the circuits in real time through meditations, rituals, exercises, tasks and writing down the results in your lab book. A "circuit" is a term for a specific level of consciousness with its own function of intelligence. The eight "circuits", or functions of intelligence" are: Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, Social, Somatic, Psychic, Mytho-poetic, and Quantum.

The course introduces all new material previously unpublished in Angel Tech using private web pages designed especially for this course. Includes ongong one-to-one feedback with myself plus interactive group forums at Maybe Logic Academy where the course is presented. If anyone has any questions or comments about this course, feel free to air them here or PM me at my profile.

What the Thinker Thinks. . . .

Anybody here remember this from the start of Prometheus Rising: "What the Thinker Thinks, the Prover Proves".

This can translate as "well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it". Regardless of the evidence presented, many folks, even those posting frequently on this tribe, don't "get it", seemingly incapable of even understanding any viewpoint other than their own. Unable to entertain the possibility that their models do not represent "reality" but only represent their nervous systems attempt to organize in a meaningful way the information abstracted. In fact, if questioned or challenged these sorts become, at best, defensive, or, more often than not, paranoid and/or violent in thoughts or deeds.

Prometheus Rising, Info-Psychology, and Angel Tech greatly influenced my thinking when I first read them in the mid-90's, and I often refer to the cartoon from P.R. with the priest and the native looking at each other thinking "He seems so reasonable, he can't really believe in a god like THAT".

I must admit great ignorance when it comes to the writings of the LSD generation. I picked up Lilly's "Center of the Cyclone" in Berkeley over the weekend and just read about his first two experiences on LSD. Wow. That guy was prepared for those journeys!

As I read about his experiences I couldn't help but feel very lucky that my one and only acid trip didn't go terribly wrong. It easily could have - it was my 17th birthday, and I was at a big music festival in the Tahoe area with a bunch of my pothead friends. This guy gave me a little piece of paper with Felix the Cat on it and told me to put it under my tongue. I remember thinking the shit wasn't working when all of a sudden everything changed. I wandered around all night with my buddies, from camp to camp, from the stoners to the trippers to the ravers, traveling by moonlight, feeling like a newborn pup. I watched the sun rise that morning through the trees from the back of my friend's truck and figured out the meaning of life, but as I got up to go tell everyone, I forgot.

I always saw drugs as recreational tools, and still do most of the time. But to read Lilly present it, I started to get an idea of how LSD can be used to explore and transcend one's limitations. I don't think I have the discipline to do it the way he did, though... I'd need an experienced guide.

But I also wonder... do I find drugs a necessary tool for me? Ultimately, my experience tells me I get more out of my experiences when I'm not fucked up on something. Recent experience has revealed that the most seemingly inconsequential substances, like caffeine, or even certain kinds of foods, can trigger states in me where I'm more open to manipulating myself.

What's your take on drugs?

Guilty pleasures

Why does that term even exist? I think it's an oxymoron, now that I think about it.

So what makes a pleasure guilty? What's wrong with feeling good?

At this here juncture, I'm increasingly living by the mantra, "Everything in moderation." So to me, the only "guilty pleasure" that comes to mind is overindulgence... whether it be food, or thoughts, or the latest video game I'm enjoying.

But I was thinking the other day of why marijuana's illegal, and the main arguments against medical use seem to me to say "it's not medicine if you're enjoying it!" like it's a bad thing to enjoy a couple tokes instead of a 6-pack of beer. This seems like yet another example of American society's voice saying it's not ok to feel good. Others I add - moves to make it unconstitutional for two adults of the same sex to marry, taboos and laws against certain sexual acts, decency laws pertaining to the human body, etc.

Where's all this come from? What makes pleasure something to be blamed for? Gimme a theory!

I recently reread RAW's Quantum Psychology, the book that introduced me to two of my favorite glosses - E-Prime and the 8 Circuit Model. As always, I found myself delighted to glean new insights from those same pages. Those who have read the book should be familiar with that old woman/young lady picture, and probably others like it - drawings that can appear to be one thing or another, depending on how you look at it. Regarding one of them, Bob asks, can you see both? If so, do you see one then the other, or both simultaneously? For a long time I thought I saw them instantaneously when really I was seeing them separately, but very quickly switching between the two. Now that I've seen them simultaneously, I say without a doubt that the experience is quite different. And I think it's increased my ability to simultaneously view different perspectives.

In regards to the 8 Circuits, excuse me while I slip on a metaphor that seems more appropriate at the moment - 8 Dimensions of "Mind" (RAW's title for his premier course at the MLA, on the 8C). During the first few years of my interaction with the 8 Dimensions, I classified experiences, reactions, tapes, etc. as activities of the individual circuits. But as with the old woman/young lady, there's seeing them separately, and seeing them simultaneously, and the latter yields some interesting experiential data (I'd call this scientific, but I fear the Inquisition may burn me alive for claiming such a term).

I have personally verified RAW's claim (and I'm sure it came before him, in psychology, but I am ignorant) that within us lie multiple "I"s, and that each has its own unique set of memories. Each "I" seems its own dimension, with its own rules, history, and possibilities. At first I worked individually with these separate Dimensions, but finally realized that when it really counted - in the heat of the moment - I still usually responded in ways that didn't align with the work I thought I was doing in those areas.

Recently, as I continue to view my "Mind" (AKA "I" - how many heads do I have now?) I've noticed that while one Dimension may sit in the driver's seat at a given time, the other Dimensions, as passengers (and sometimes navigators) flavor the experience and processes at varying levels, simultaneously. For me, I've also noticed that each Dimension expresses a spectrum (or polarity, for more Aristotelian-inclined brains) - and the predominant alignment of that Dimension on that spectrum at that time, combined with all the other Dimensions and their alignments at that time all play into my choices and actions, moment by moment.

I find myself in new territory here, which I like.

Which circuit are you on? – The Game

Inspired by the previous post, I thought it would be some light edutainment to play a game of presenting a situation, either real or imagined, and then people propose a solution based on focusing on one of the circuits – thus we have:

‘Which circuit are you on? - The Game’

As an example, I’ll use a situation described in the previous post:

Situation:

You're driving to that job interview that is going to change everything, you're full of confidence, looking sharp, and then your car overheats while stuck in traffic.

Solutions:

C1 – This happens all the time, you’ve got spare coolant and water in the trunk. You’re half an hour early anyway, because you weren’t sure where it was.

C2 – After beating the dash and yelling, you abandon the car the first place you can pull off. It’s not that far, you’ll walk or run if necessary to get there - if you don’t get that job you’ll get evicted and be living in that junk heap.

C3 – You keep driving until you get there. You figure it’s not that far, there’s not that much steam, and the car is a junker anyway – you’ll deal with it later.

C4 – You use your cell phone to call your potential employer and explain what happened, and then call your auto club to get road side assistance.

C5 – You interpret these events as a sign that you shouldn’t take the job, and blow off the interview. You really didn’t want that job anyway.

C6 - As you’re looking under the hood, the person you’re suppose to interview with drives by and recognizes you – they’re stuck in the same traffic jam.

C7 - A parking spot appears out of nowhere, and a stranger in the car behind you gives you a ride.

C8 – It’s not your car that’s overheating, it’s the car in front of you! As soon as it pulls over, the way is clear.

What other solutions for this situation? Other Situations?

How about you?

Tim's "Neurocomics" online as a torrent

I thought this was worth posting - Tim Leary's Neurocomics was scanned in and is being distributed as a torrent.

These are the same illustrations as are in The Game of Life, but in their original comic form.

Not a bad little intro to the 8 brain circuits theory

It's a collection of .png files. I downloaded it with democracy player, expecting a video, but soon realized that by clicking the REVEAL LOCAL FILE link in the player I was taken to the place on the hard disk where the .pngs were stored.

I first heard about this from boingboing. This is the url of the post that talks about the torrent:

Intra-8-Circuit Inhibitors

Does anyone here have an opinion on whether certain (any) circuits within the 8-circuit model can, because of activation, inhibit the activation of other ciruits? Based simply on the nature of neuro-structure/-function and my opinion (though seemingly with a good deal of evidence) that the 8-circuit model has quite a strong neurological parallel (eg. is an appropriate model of consciousness), I'm feel as though there must be some inhibitions upon activation.

The brain does it all the time with neurons (ex. purkinje cells are inhibitory neurons in the cerebellum, responsible for very fine (thusly filtered (inhibited) motor movements)).

Anyway, what do you guys think?

What did Leary say? Wilson? I feel like Wilson said that he thought circuit high (ha... haha...) circuit 5 activation prevents circuit 6 or 7 activation. Maybe it was 6 to 7 and 8. I don't remember or remember where I read or heard that (an interview perhaps).

-Peace.

Self-programming and Libertarian ideas

I’m finishing up a fascinating book on the Libertarian movement: Radicals For Capitalism, by Brian Doherty, and in it were several mentions of Timothy Leary and Robert Anton Wilson. Both were portrayed as being somewhat libertarians, Leary influenced by the antipsychiatry ideas of Dr. Thomas Szasz, Wilson as being a follower of American individualist anarchism proponent Benjamin Tucker. I hadn’t really thought about them from the libertarian angle, but both advocated individual freedom and were critical of governmental controls.

For those unfamiliar with libertarian ideas, its general idea is that “the government that governs best is the one that governs least”, and that individual freedom is the ultimate value. Thus it is diametrically opposed to socialism and collectivism, and while it advocates capitalism as an extension of individualism, it should not be confused with conservatism, which generally advocates state controls to keep people in line. Leary in particular was a victim of state control, and the area of drug laws and the “war on drugs” typifies what is wrong with governments.

The whole idea of individual freedom rests on individual responsibility, where one is free to go one’s own way and do what one wants, as long as this doesn’t limit other individuals, but one is also responsible for what happens. There is no “big brother” to keep you in protective custody and pick up the broken pieces in lieu of failure.

In light of these ideas, I think that reprogramming oneself and work with the eight circuit brain is an excellent example of libertarian ideas in action on the personal level. Rather than running along on the collective programs that have been instilled in one from society, school and parents, the self-programmer takes responsibility for their own mental system. Whether through exercises, rituals or psychoactive substances, one is going beyond the set programs and developing a unique individual who has tuned in to different frequencies than the average domesticated biped. To those still caught up in the herd mindset, this often seems outrageous, incomprehensible, and that those who are breaking the rules are hurting themselves and others, and must be brought under control. Thus we have a major conflict in society, where in just wanting to be free, to be one’s self, to create one’s self, one becomes an outlaw.

Circuit Songs

Popular songs have often had a profound effect on me, often being synchronistic messages that came through at the right time to answer a question, reaffirm a decision, or ask entirely new questions. I thought it might be fun to post lyrics to songs that are related to the different circuits or transitions from circuit to circuit, or any connection one may perceive between lyric content and 8CB theory and use. Comments, commentary, stories and tangents are welcome, as well as poems written without music accompaniment.

To start, I'd like to post a Bob Dylan song, who is sort of a poet laureate or circuits 5 through 7. This song to me typifies the transition from left brain to right brain, where old programs are no longer valid and one is desperately trying to reprogram oneself, ad hoc and on the run, before the system crashes completely. It speaks of transcendence of all the games and cycles one has to go through, and has long been a guidepost for my own path.

**************

Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again
--by Bob Dylan

Oh, the ragman draws circles
Up and down the block.
I'd ask him what the matter was
But I know that he don't talk.
And the ladies treat me kindly
And furnish me with tape,
But deep inside my heart
I know I can't escape.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Well, Shakespeare, he's in the alley
With his pointed shoes and his bells,
Speaking to some French girl,
Who says she knows me well.
And I would send a message
To find out if she's talked,
But the post office has been stolen
And the mailbox is locked.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Mona tried to tell me
To stay away from the train line.
She said that all the railroad men
Just drink up your blood like wine.
An' I said, "Oh, I didn't know that,
But then again, there's only one I've met
An' he just smoked my eyelids
An' punched my cigarette."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Grandpa died last week
And now he's buried in the rocks,
But everybody still talks about
How badly they were shocked.
But me, I expected it to happen,
I knew he'd lost control
When he built a fire on Main Street
And shot it full of holes.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the senator came down here
Showing ev'ryone his gun,
Handing out free tickets
To the wedding of his son.
An' me, I nearly got busted
An' wouldn't it be my luck
To get caught without a ticket
And be discovered beneath a truck.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the preacher looked so baffled
When I asked him why he dressed
With twenty pounds of headlines
Stapled to his chest.
But he cursed me when I proved it to him,
Then I whispered, "Not even you can hide.
You see, you're just like me,
I hope you're satisfied."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the rainman gave me two cures,
Then he said, "Jump right in."
The one was Texas medicine,
The other was just railroad gin.
An' like a fool I mixed them
An' it strangled up my mind,
An' now people just get uglier
An' I have no sense of time.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

When Ruthie says come see her
In her honky-tonk lagoon,
Where I can watch her waltz for free
'Neath her Panamanian moon.
An' I say, "Aw come on now,
You must know about my debutante."
An' she says, "Your debutante just knows what you need
But I know what you want."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the bricks lay on Grand Street
Where the neon madmen climb.
They all fall there so perfectly,
It all seems so well timed.
An' here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

While scatological behavior may be amusing to those involved, as moderator, it is my prerogative to edit out inappropriate posts where I see necessary, as one might clean up graffiti, or in this case, flush the toilet. In effect, I will not allow this tribe to be reduced to a level of adolescent or even infantile communications by those who seem to be disgruntled that the tribe is no longer their private club house. I believe a new club house has been built, with a membership card required for admittance. For advanced students, or those seeking the pure esoteric teachings from the correct answer machine, I would advise to apply there: http://tribes.tribe.net/karmamechanics

This is a public but moderated forum, and while anyone is free to come or go as they will, and post what ever they feel is pertinent to the tribe’s focus, they are not free to symbolically moon the other tribe members or smear shit on the walls. To show I have an open mind about these things, those wishing to indulge in potty humor are free to start their own thread, if you find that sort of thing interesting or amusing.

Thank you for your interest and your support.

Spiritual Emergency, Emergence and the 8 Circuit Brain

I'm revisiting in my thinking the concepts I first came across some years ago from a counsellor I worked with.

For background, I'm a psychiatric nurse who has always believed that the psychiatric profession is an inherently abusive system within an inherently abusive culture. I justify my continued presence in the system both by virtue of the client groups I have tended to work with (mentally disordered criminal offenders) and with the thought that the abuse is best mitigated by the presence of those who recognize it (OK, it's slightly more complicated than that, but I really don't think you want my entire life history and philosophy in this post :-).

I have always believed that psychiatric illness is treated the way it is in our culture(s) (brackets because I'm in the UK) because we fail to value the experiences that some individuals bring to the social arena... other, more 'primitive' cultures integrated many of these aspects in different ways... but the larger society has become, the more homogenous the controlling forces strive to keep it... anything too far out of the norm becomes deviance and dangerous...

I'm interested in pursuing the idea that what we traditionally regard as psychosis is often part of a larger process, one of a spiritual emergence, but one that, for successful germination, requires certain conditions and preconditions to be in place, otherwise the psyche disintegrates into chaos. Our current societies and social systems remove (or perhaps more correctly, fail to provide) these systems, resulting in the increased potential for chaos and disintegration.

I'm also interested in pursuing just what the 8 circuit model can tell us (if anything) about this process. And what (if anything) it can contribute to the work of the agent provocateurs within the systems?

Greetings and Introductions

We've had several people find the tribe recently, and I would like to welcome all new members and encourage existing members to take part in discussions. You don’t have to be an expert or deeply involved to make a contribution. Reviewing the membership list of 285 members, I don’t think more than a couple of dozen people have taken part in discussions since I joined. I have only been on tribe.net myself for around six months, and took over the moderator position a month or so ago, so most people I am not familiar with unless they have posted comments.

Our oldest current member, Phil, is often active with interesting comments, and I see him posting in other tribes, so I have some idea of where he is coming from. Most others I have no idea who they are or why they joined. Therefore, I think it would be helpful to all in the tribe if each member would post an introduction to themselves, short or long, with some basic background info, and their relation to the eight circuit brain theory. I’ll start this myself:

As an old head from the 1970’s, of course Leary was well known to me since childhood, though in those days I was more interested in John Lilly’s ideas of metaprogramming. After years of programming myself, I realized I could probably program computers, and thus I have worked a programmer/analyst for most of my adult life.

I first read Exo-Psychology sometime in the late 70’s, and have read quite a few of Leary’s books since. My main interest in the 8CB theory is as a topographical overlay for social analysis, as Leary outlined in books such as Neuropolitique and Chaos and Cyberculture. I am only slightly familiar with Wilson’s and Alli’s works and the self-growth ideas they have developed. So I come from the perspective of a free thinking psychonaut, and my only agenda in being in the tribe is to increase intelligence.

As a systems analyst I’m interested in high level overviews and how systems interconnect, as a programmer I’m interested in detailed data manipulation, inputs and outputs, so I tend to use systems and computer terminology to describe processes, rather than some of the more traditional ones. To me, this one of Leary’s great contributions - to take ideas from various spiritual disciplines, psychological theories, alchemy, magic and science, and synthesize a modern model.

So who here's actually using the model???

I've considered the 8CM intellectually (C3) for almost a decade now. Wow. But understanding and use took a lot longer for me. For the first several years, it stayed in my head. After some crazy joker's class on it (I will refrain from names to avoid any assholes calling me a cultist or follower, thank you very much) I moved out of C3 and actually considered my personal imprints in the circuits.

I don't want to go on and on about my personal experience, and that's not my intent for this thread, but I will say that my independent work with the model helped me to see where I had issues (primarily C2 - boundaries and status) and via RAW and AA I had access to exercises that actually worked - what I mean is, I have much stronger boundaries and a better sense of my ... place... as a result.

Now, before all that, I went to three different therapists for these problems. The last one (a PhD who billed my insurance well over $100 per hour) really only gave me two suggestions during my 6 visits to her - go to a bookstore and buy self-help books that appeal to me, and write letters to and from my child self. The rest of the time she continued to tell me I was intelligent enough to work it all out myself. The others weren't any better.

Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm just too smart for most therapists to help (I'd love to continue believing that, but I seriously doubt it). I'm just saying that therapy never helped - and believe me, I was crying on those visits and honest and talking to the therapists quite directly about the issues I was having. The 8CM, on the other hand, gives me a very useful map to use while exploring the dimensions of my "mind" and I thank RAW and Alli for returning my sanity and sense of peace as a result of the work they both did with this model.

I'm hearing a lot of discussion in this tribe about whether the 8CB "is" scientific or useful or mystical or whatever (haven't any of you heard of E'?) but I don't hear anything about people actually using it. So if ya do, post here please!

Leary, Wilson, Alli: The Different Approaches

I have taken the liberty to paste the following post from the Maybe Logic Academy by Yodhe here as I found it to be an eloquent statement about the relevant distinctions between the three primary approaches to the 8-Circuit Brain in print (in books by myself, Leary and Wilson):

********************************

It seems as though there are two types/metamaps of the Eight Circuit flavours arising (discounting the bias that some would call the RAW third metamap). There seems to be one, which is a free-form map that is to model on one's own experiences of the sensations, energy, information that is realised/released through a series of exercises, as seemingly presented eloquently by Antero Alli described in length in both his book Angel Tech, and on-line here, and elsewhere.

There also seems a large correspondance in the Angel Tech system to the chakra/kundalini energy descriptions, with each circuit getting assigned a chakra, and vica versa. On the other hand the Leary flavour (which I feel is often misdescribed as C3 modelling of 8C) which is less based on the personal experience.

NOTE: These metamaps are NOT mutually exclusive, and I would endeavour people to develop/implement more meta-maps of 8C than just the two I present here, this being merely a basis. Perhaps these are just the metamaps perspectives from two circuits themselves, and there are six more to describe) I would say for ease of description that whilst the Angel Tech metamap is an experiential one, the Leary metamap could be considered the scientific one.

That is say that Antero Alli himself I think has admitted that his own model is not necessarily based in an scientific reality but an experiential one. On the otherhand Leary, as a psychologist/scientist was seemingly attempting to put states of consciousness into categories, based on experimental reality, in the same way as Lilly describes in his "Cyclone" books.

Perhaps this is where the two meta-map are of diverse emphasis. The Angel Tech metamap of the eight circuits seem to develop each circuit as a function of intelligence, or the action/experience of intelligence. Whilst the Leary metamap assigns/develops each circuit as different quantum states of consciousness, out of a evolutionary information system. Superifically at least, the Angel Tech seems as though it is the esoteric system, compared to the Leary/Wilson occidental ones.

Optimum functioning can be resolved by conjoining the two metamaps, as well as developing, integrating and sharing your alternatives metamaps. Remember intelligence is also recognised not only by assimilating and digesting information but also by its active transmission.

I am starting a new tribe dedicated to our continuing education of the 8-Circuit Brain. As moderator, I will assist members towards a deeper personal understanding and application of the 8-Circuit Brain model to real life circumstances, rather than any pursuit of speculation, cross-referencing with other systems and over-thinking in general.

As a result, ANGEL TECH will be more narrow in scope than this forum but may plumb greater depths and heights as a result. ANGEL TECH will also host past, present and future students enrolled in the 8-Circuit Brain course of study that i teach at Maybe Logic Academy (www.maybelogic.net).

I plan to remain a member in this tribe moderated by Rustic Rambler and use it as a reference source to the many information-rich posts here. Note: ANGEL TECH will emphasize process over content, meaning, if you are just seeking more content for the sake of increasing information alone, you may be better off without this tribe. However, if you are exited or motivated by the possibility of participating in a more hands-on testing of the 8-Circuit Brain model beyond your armchair, I would like to dialogue with you

Pain integration

So, I find myself faced with an amusing scenario (at least as I have it as part of my experience, I find it amusing) of having sustained deep physical trauma at a young age.

I go forth trying to deal with it now.
My conscious mind would love for me to discover some hidden reason, some emotional cause that, if I could just sort it, would fix the whole thing.
I find, more and more as I heal, that if I just heal the physical, as the proverbial wall comes down with the rushing of enerchi through it, the bricks of its construction will wash past my awareness and reveal themselves to me - rendering the whole conscious mind ordeal futile, but granting it simultaneous satisfaction.

Lots of what I have found boils down to the root disease of feelings of powerlessness. In fact, nearly all of the major injuries that I have sustained on my body arose in the presence of my father - a man who, himself, has suffered feelings of powerlessness, and who consciously or not, had managed to somewhat belittle me, emotionally, for a while.

So now I go through that, but the pain remains.
I state my query here:

What do I do to process raw pain? I breath, and a stretch, and I try to confront it and genuinely alter my posture and behaviours... do I just... keeping doing that?

Do any of you have techniques for past physical trauma to the body?
Things like insecurity around another gender I can confront through direct attempts.
How can I shut down my conscious mind enough to get the wall down that I may feel the full extent of the trauma? Does that even help, or provoke the injury?

Processing something which may have had absolutely no personal connection, but simply as a result of the universe acting as the universe does, and an infinity of energies all forming our reality, and me ending up receiving some of somethings, unrelated entirely to my own headspace at the time, etc. etc.

Anyone? Please and thank yous.

I want to talk about c1/c5 integration and the difference between actual threat and perceived threat.

Actual threat results in a fear response, and C1 sense-process-react stimulates C2 judge-emote-respond processing which than results in epinephrine secretion and fight or flight response.

Perceived threat doesn't appear to begin with C1 sense absorption as much as it seems to begin with a C3 see-sort-label process, and the label and the conditioning associated with the label stimulates a physiological C1 danger-fear signal.

C5 intelligence processes seem to depend upon C1 fear processing, which appears to be significantly affected by C3 labeling. The way I see this involves a broken record type loop between C3 and C1 which repeats based upon conditioned responses, and prevents the clarity and efficiency of C5 & C7 intelligence processing.

This seems to be like a very difficult are to approach. One of the keys to unlocking this situation seems to involve the direct and total experience of fear, when it arises, and the subsequent counterconditioning of programed fears which are perceived and not actual. Any ideas on this?

redefining the 'circuits'

I am posting this here, under a new thread, because I feel that I am approaching a higher degree of clarity in defining my 'circuitry'. I will appreciate any feedback.

The way I am currently viewing the circuits is as something like 'stations' or 'channels'. I don't feel those two words really sum up the essence of what I am trying to convey, but for now I suppose they will suffice. I see each station, or channel, as a sort of medium, which allows for the transmission of information in terms of that media. The medium of (C1) is impulse, pleasure and pain, like and fear, want and dont want. The medium of (C2) is broader, and emotional. It seems to integrate (C1) impulses and lend them more meaning, meaning personal to one's beliefs. The medium of (C3) is ideas. (C3) remind me of television. It seems like an operator switchboard that should function to analyze and give form to the media of the other channels, but instead tends toward its own self absorption, at a sacrifice of its functional ability.

So, if the goal of using the model is to increase intelligence, then right now it seems to me that the primary objective is maximize the clarity which the signals from each channel can be perceived, analyzed, and responded to. It seems like the channels are already intelligent, what needs done is more of a getting out of your own way so the signals can come in clearly.

I apologize for the lack of eloquence, but hopefully these 'ideas' strike a chord with someone.
Inter Circuit Communication

My work with this system has picked up, of late, much in part to various lurking and browsing on my part through the topics posted here, and with remarkable, tangible, and satisfying successes.

I, and many people, now, have pointed it out to me, play as a communicator [Sun in 3rd house Libra, along with Mercury; Chinese Rooster (day/month);Mayan Monkey - they all express the same point, albeit differently; more on this later]. It comes naturally to me. I appreciate it on a multitude of levels - summarized, ultimately, in that I see one of the grandest dualisms at play in life to take the form of Intention (Communication) and Interpretation (Perception) - that smooth communication, truthful communication, honestly holds one of the greatest keys to a harmonized reality. As with any circumstance, however, there exist no clear cut boundaries and, ultimately, our perception itself results from our intention - certainly our intention shapes our interpretation, and visa versa.

Life as communication.

Until just recently however, (I'll say in the realm of the last 6 months) human communication, despite all my (intellectual) understanding of it, remained, primarily verbal/intellectual/C3. I talked a lot. I thought a lot. I tried to find the proper words, an adequate tone, syllable count, shape, and context to precisely express exactly what I felt, perceived, or wanted to say.

I played (and continue to play) with language, creating lavish and wonderful structures to climb one's pondering over, around, and through - much to my delight.

Emotionally, while I could express (and certainly tried to) a vast array of sentiments [exploring the spectrum, and creating my own, when and wherever possible] when it came to non-verbal interaction, I became horribly stuffy.

Too much brain, not enough body. Fear of touch.

I've worked on remedying this. I speak less, and let my actions do the talking.
Saying "I appreciate the value of silence, and think people speak too much in general" will never achieve the same effect as just keeping one's mouth shut in the first place.

This has helped a lot. I can differentiate between the varying lenses/aspects of self/circuits and I have certainly noticed improvement in not having one dominate the field of another.

It strikes me, however, that simply isolating each Circuit, while certainly providing an exceptional first step, and a valuable and necessary one at that, ultimately fragments the self.

It seems to me that this system truly begins to blossom when we can understand each of the circuits *through each of the others* (i.e. C4 channeled through C3 - I express my desires, or C4 through C2 - I act upon them)

At least, so postulate I. I hardly claim a mastery over the system - if any of this seems inappropriate, please, give me your interpretations. I adore learning, truly I do.

This brings me to a few questions (and thanks fer readin' this far, y'alls!):

1 - What keywords could one use for each circuit as a descriptor for how the others get channeled through it?
2 - How would one work to increase the freedom of flow between each of the circuits (i.e. if I get stuck in C3, but can break out by moving entirely into C2, what methods for reconciliation [and obviously they vary greatly depending on the circuit] can we develop?
3 - Would each circuit contain a complete representation of each of the others (as above, so below) or are some circuits better suited to expressing the others than, well, others?
4 - Does this make any sense whatsoever?
and
5 - If it does make sense - did I just, inherently, ask for a general description of the system as it usually gets presented (is this completely redundant?)

Thanks a lot, all.
I know it takes a moment for me to get to the point.
Introductions hold a special importance.

So....I return home to Texas (Yee-Haw!) after three years abroad. Since then, I've had a veritable shitload of experiences to increase my awareness of how I got to be the Way I am. That is, of my circuits.

My theory is that when I get home, I will be face-to-face with the people that are most closely associated with my imprinting. I believe (for no other reason than it makes sense to me) that I will have a window of opportunity to do some real circuit work.

Does anyone have similar experience?

Transactional Analysis

Anybody here read any books on this mode of psychotherapy? I seem to recall that RAW or somebody else mentioned that eventually one views transactional analysis as just another game that people can play. Yet, after re-reading PR for the up-teenth time, I think this might be a nice adjunct to the mode that I currently practice.

Any suggestions for good books for practitioner in the mental health field? Thanks.

Imprinting / re-imprinting

Lately I’ve had some significant doubts around imprinting and re-imprinting.

My first impressions on imprinting (as learned though RAW and Leary’s books) was that there was a very small window on which the imprint was taken by the nervous system (moment of birth and first orgasm for example). I recall the example of the baby giraffe who’s mother was killed by hunters at the time of birth and the giraffe imprinted the jeep as this was sorta similar to the mother image. The scientific work of Konrad Lorenz on baby geese imprinting him as the mother at birth also suggests the same small window.

Because this window is so small, it suggests a random factor in imprinting depending on whatever happens at that particular time. After the imprint, further conditioning would occur around that imprint, but couldn’t exceed the bounds created by the imprint itself. (For example: A severe physical insecurity imprint isn’t going to allow conditioning of physical security.)

However I tend to suspect that imprint windows last much longer duration for humans (like on the order of 3-6 months), but that a serious trauma during that time could override all other signals during the long window.

Somewhere in Exo/Info-Psychology, Leary lists the mechanisms that could allow for re-imprinting and they are all rather severe shocks. This doesn’t seem to allow for a gradual re-imprinting process without the need for the severe shock, which I suspect is possible…. Or maybe it’s just a deep re-conditioning.

I dunno. I feel I’m delving much further into the realm of intellectual masturbation than I prefer to go these days, but I’m throwing it out there to see if anyone has any comments of there own on the subject.

video clip of First Circuit ritual enactment

the link below goes to a clip from my feature-length paratheatre document, 'ORPHANS OF DELIRIUM" which documents a performance ritual staged at San Francisco's CELLspace on Spring Equiniox, 2004.

this 3-min. clip shows a portion of one of four rituals i designed around this poet who gets drunk while telling stories of those who loved him without him realizing it until they left him or died. three other performers portray forces within his psyche that correspond with Circuits One, Two and Three.

the primary performer in this clip, Paradox Pollack, is accessing his root chakra (circuit one) as his primary movement and vocal resource. Paradox is a seasoned performer who has worked with me in this paratheatre medium for five years (don't try this at home, kids!); what he offers here is nothing short of as pure absorbtion, integration and communication of sheer physical intelligence.
Origins of Leary’s 8 Circuit Brain theory

We were discussing in a previous post some of the origins of Leary’s 8 Circuit Brain theory. While on the surface seemingly a brilliant original idea, once one starts looking at it the details, they appear to come from a number of different areas. Leary’s contribution was to combine them into a more or less unified theory. I thought it would be interesting to continue with this subject in a post of it’s own. I’m a systems analyst, and I like to study the workings of a theoretical system, it’s inputs and outputs, how the parts fit together, and how they interact with other systems. I’m more interested in it as a system of thought than as any kind of spiritual or developmental discipline.

To me, it appears that Leary’s theory is a merging of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory with one or more of the Chakra theories, and using a bit of evolutionary theory, psychopharmacology, psycho neurology, and some physics terminology to weave it all together.

The internet is quite a wonderful research tool, certainly a global nervous system and surely a next step in evolution. Here are some links relating to the discussion.

First of all, some links about the 8 Circuit Brain theory itself:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8-Circuit_Model_of_Consciousness

http://www.futurehi.net/docs/8circuit.html

http://www.totse.com/en/fringe/dreams_auras_astral_projection/8circuit.html

The basis of Leary’s theory seems to be Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and he linked high-tech descriptions of individual chakras to the various levels and needs. Here is an outline of the Hiearchy of Needs:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow%27s_hierarchy_of_needs

Sherpa provided us with this information and link:

“A little known historical fact is how Leary inherited the eight-circuit model (we did not originate it) from a Hindu teacher of advanced tantra during his Millbrook days. This meeting was chronicled in the introduction of Leary's book "WHAT DOES WOMAN WANT? You can also read about it here:”

http://web.archive.org/web/20010301174817/www.netside.net/~szot/Leary11.html

To me this article doesn’t really explain how he got the theory very well, or even what the theory was, but if it was “Hindu teacher of advanced tantra” that he got it from, obviously it must have been a Chakra theory. Who was this “Professor Adams, a guest from the Oriental Philosophy Department of Rutgers University” ? I did a search, and nothing comes up for an OPD at RU, and Adams doesn’t sound like an Indian or Asian name. This sounds more like someone like Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, who was a professor, knew chakra theory and probably tried psychedelics. This is just a guess - I don’t know if he ever interacted with Leary, or who all the gurus were who visited America in those years. Any clues here?

While I tnink the 8CB theory is a workable theory neededing research and collaboration, I think the SMI2LE aspects of Leary’s theory are mostly wishful thinking and/or bad science fiction. However he did try to weave it into the general 8CB theory. Ilithmar provided this interesting bit of information, would be nice to see further research on this:

“Incedently apparantly SMI2LE is not leary's either - cs hyatt writes in a couple of his books that it originated from a psychiatrist acquantance of israel regardies - i forget his name but i think it was Linder or Lidner or something like that, and he postulated in the 50's that the way humans would 'evolve' would be by overcoming their limitations - Gravity (SM), Stupidity (II) and Death (LE) if i remember correctly, and that was back in the early 1950's.”

From taking the 8CB class with Alli at the MLA, I know that his style places emphasis on individuals defining their terms. What is my definition of intelligence? What words best represent the three-fold process of absorb/integrate/transmit in my mind? I've always appreciated this as a lover of language and fan of general semantics...

So a discussion of objectivity rose up on the "I have America surrounded" and I kept thinking to myself, what makes a source or person or book objective? And how subjective is my definition of objective, as applied to events I encounter?

I pulled up a definition online:

objective

adjective
1. undistorted by emotion or personal bias; based on observable phenomena; "an objective appraisal"; "objective evidence" [ant: subjective]
2. serving as or indicating the object of a verb or of certain prepositions and used for certain other purposes; "objective case"; "accusative endings"
3. emphasizing or expressing things as perceived without distortion of personal feelings, insertion of fictional matter, or interpretation; "objective art"
4. belonging to immediate experience of actual things or events; "objective benefits"; "an objective example"; "there is no objective evidence of anything of the kind"

Now, I'll fess up to being sympathetic to solipsism (but hey, at least I'm aware of it), but I can't fathom anything outside of the hard sciences that I would consider being objectively objective, as opposed to subjectively objective (i.e. I consider the source objective because it jives with my personal determination of objectivity).

The first part of the definition - "undistorted by emotion or personal bias; based on observable phenomena" - to use Leary biographies as an example, then any work written by an individual who did not physically observe Leary cannot be considered objective. And for someone to have enough interest to write a book about someone else... this presupposes personal bias, to me. Is it possible for anyone to write an objective biography?

Please, you intelligent folks of this tribe, share your understanding of objectivity.

I have decided to leave this tribe and assign a new moderator, who will be taking over soon. I usually don't care to explain my decisions -- I tend to act and explain later -- but feel a certain responsibility to do so here. First off, there's been a lot of really great and informative posts here since I started this tribe19 months ago. I feel that my original intention manifested and had a good run.

Besides being overwhelmed with tribe.net (I moderate four other tribes besides this one) and needing more computer-free time for my other pursuits, I think this tribe has gone as far as it can go with the current focus and moderator. I also feel unable and somewhat helpless to nurture and maintain the intent I started this tribe with, which was to use this forum as a lens to focus in on the workings of the 8-Circuit Brain model.

Though this intention seemed to work quite well for about the first year (check out the earlier threads), it started to disperse and fragment well beyond this moderator's personal interest and abilities to steer it back. Perhaps this initial focus has proven too narrow for many here. No blame; change happens.

Please take my departure as a gift. Though it may not appear that way to some, that is the intention behind my actions.

Hello everyone! I took one of Antero's 8-circuit classes, but this is my first post on the Tribe.

I moved to a new town and have spent 7 months doing more 4th circuit work than ever before. I am introverted by nature, but have really extended myself to meet people and network. My question is this:

I would like to know how the 4th circuit connects to the other circuits. In the class we worked a little bit with the 4-8 connection. I'm doing all this 4th circuit work, but it feels really isolated, not connected to other things. Some of the other circuits 1-4 for example has a strong connection for me, I can see how they relate. I'm feeling kind of isolated and alone (ironically enough) in this 4th circuit world. Any advice?

I will keep elaborating if necessary. Feel free to quesiton me.

http://tribes.tribe.net/deep-mind

(from the tribe description)

Experiential and experimental spirituality and consciousness exploration.

The Deep Mind tribe is intended to be a meeting place for people who find no place in orthodox dogma for their desire for spiritual development. Deep Mind is a group of people who are willing to think in terms of a spiritual 'technology' that builds on modern psychological (mainstream and 'fringe') insight, traditional practice, current knowledge, wild, wild ideas and experimentation/personal experience.

Deep Mind is for those who dare to accept that reality is other than they believe it to be.

Leave your dogma at the door. It has no place here, it tends to leave hairs on the furniture.

i don't know what it is, it could be a case of just trying to read TOO much in a day, but lately my brain tends to turn into mush after a chapter or 2 of reading about psychology, physics etc. I guess this is a common side effect? I'll read a chapter and my brain drifts, I catch myself reading shit and not comprehending, so I just stop and end up going back later and re-reading those few pages. I really love reading and learning new stuff but my brain sometimes doesn't wanna cooperate, the bastard. Are they natural herbs or something I can take to help concentrate? I have ADD obviously, I don't take meds or anything for it. I try to get in that ZONE but my brain just wants to be laaazyyyyy (or overactive, whatever)...

Tools to change conditioned behavior

I'm somewhat new to the 8 circuit model, I've only read what RAW has typed up about it (mostly from Cosmic Trigger), and listened to the lectures RAW has given about it (a 40 minute in depth lecture about the 8 circuits on one of the tapes from 'RAW Explains Everything"). I've heard some Leary lecture, but I do grasp it enough that I could probably give my own less in depth lectures about it. I guess the first question would be - What book(s) do I need to read before I attempt re-imprinting or to a lesser degree behavioral change (getting rid of anxieties, being a more positive thinker, etc) on myself. I am interested in straight ahead techniques that would be used along with a psychedelic like LSD, field reports written by Leary would be helpful, or any book where he discusses real techniques he used to change real behaviors and thought patterns. I understand the theory and am interested in the process. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks

5th circuit work...

Hello all. Recently I've been doing some 5th circuit work taken from Angel Tech. I've been performing rituals with no-form and then projecting a quality into my circle. I first did positive/negative to try to balance my worst case scenario habit and afterwards I was surprised at how good I felt. There really was a feeling of lightness. Then I moved onto the first circuit, projecting advance and retreat into the circle.

A few days after I did this ritual, I was put into a situation where I had a very obvious choice of advance (get things my way) or retreat (let the others have their way in order for things to go smoothly and everyone remain happy, except me of course. I find that I am willing to take on the burden of compromise in order to maintain others' happiness, but that's another story altogether.) My encounter with the 1st circuit was foreknown and on my way to the meeting with my Korean bosses, I found myself walking and moving in a manner exactly like my ritual work. It was a really empowering feeling. During the meeting I felt a very strong pull to retreat, to give the bosses what they wanted (my time for nothing) just so things could go smoothly. But I was aware and silently chanted 'Advance.' I did just that, I advanced and although I didn't get everything the way I wanted it, I did strike a very favorable (for me) deal. It was a great experience.
Since then, my Korean bosses have put me in similar situations. They seem surprised that the very docile, easy-going teacher they had for nine months has suddenly started...advancing. Anyway. Just thought I'd share. Peace, love, and advance!

I am very interested in re-imprinting my brain. Specifically I want to focus on the first two imprints. I have been doing self-hypnosis for a long time now to alter the Way I think. It, along with other things--yoga, meditation, drumming, has been successful, but I want to dig deeper. Soon, I will have access to magic mushrooms. I am looking to design a ritual or situation (with or without the mushrooms) that will provide imprint vulnerability with a positive, conscious re-imprinting. Any thoughts, suggestions, advice? Cheers.

So I'm reading Prometheus Rising, about 5 chapters in and so far have only read about the first 2 circuits. Regarding the Leary personality grid, is he saying that robotized people stay in one of these categories at all times? I know the classifications are 'for convenience only' and human beings are fluid, but then why even have the grid, because people are shifting around so much without even realizing it. I analyzed my mom using the grid and at times she is friendly weakness, other times she is friendly strength, and it fluctuates depending on what part of her personality i'm analyzing, and at what time or day I'm doing the analyzing. Even people who are hostile strength I'm sure have times where they shift into friendly strength or hostile weakness. I've never met a person who is stagnant in one of the quadrants. I know not to expect people to be stagnant as Wilson even says in the book, but it seems like most people are 'full circles' or 'more full circles' in the grid even though they don't realize they are doing it (still robotized). So in a way, that cancels out the grid because even though they are still mechanical they cover more area of the grid, no? I hope that makes sense. If anyone can help clear that up I'd appreciate it

I am opening this topic up in hopes of thoughts, insights, personal experiences and inquiries.
The topic is love take it to whatever level or expression of it that you want -yep-the different types of love expression and where might they be in the various circuits.
Okay now the same thing but lets exclude the sexual experience with loving another person -has anyone ever deeply fallen in love and this came as a shock to your system in so that it breaks old imprints?
What kinds of love can be found in the Chapel P.?
Now for the sex part of love -any thoughts about rituals - can sex be a ritual of rituals -or would that be fetishes.
I 'll share if you'll share.
Thanks -kate

Worst Case Scenario

I'm in the process of learning to read the 8-circuit map. With this post I am hoping to gain feedback, insight, or advice to dealing with an automatic thought process.

I'm not sure where it comes from, perhaps an over-emphasized awareness of safety as a child, but I have a very great habit of immediately identifying the worst case in each situation. I mention awareness of safety because I feel that's truly a place it may have origniated--don't run with scissors you may fall and stab yourself; don't play with a lighter, you may burn the house down; don't cross your eyes, they may get stuck like that. Whatever the reason or source of this constant awareness, it's gone beyond the limits of effective functioning. If a glass of water is near the computer, I can see how the glass can be knocked over, wrecking the computer. If I"m doing anything out of normal, predictable patterns, I immediately see the worst case. My mind jumps to the worst conclusions, seemingly, just so that I'm aware of them and be OK with those worst cases. I've gotten into the habit of ignoring or correcting these immediate assumptions, but I would like to get past them altogether. They are a hinderance and a waste of my energy. I also understand that this may be the bottom-line (for me) between optimism and pessimism. It's like I"m trying to flip a switch that's been glued into one position for too long. I reckon this is the realm of the 1st circuit--advance or retreat? Retreat because I see the potential for the worst, everywhere. Could be the 2nd circuit? I submit to the worst cases everywhere. A blending of the two?

Any thoughts? Cheers

The most interesting thing about the 8-circuit brain model is how immediately it can be applied and tested wherever you are and whatever you're already doing. The objective of this system is Intelligence Increase. To participate, however, one must learn to relax the vanity for thinking one is already intelligent enough.

Truth be told, we all manifest intelligence in certain areas AND stupidity in others. Some of us are intellectual giants AND emotional morons. Others are social geniuses AND physical idiots. The 8-circuit brain model can help you locate specific areas of idiocy, as well as, smarts. If you are up to confessing your ignorance, I think you will find this model quite compelling.

The system is structured around eight functions of one Intelligence: physical, emotional, conceptual, social, somatic, psychic, mythic and quantum functions of Intelligence. Within each of these eight exists three sub-phases of how we: 1) absorb, 2) integrate and 3) transmit our experience of each one. These three stages reflect the tertiary function of the neuron, our most basic unit of biological intelligence, in its capacity to receive, store and transmit signals.

All three are necessary to complete the circuit and jump-start intelligence to its next level. To increase conceptual intelligence, for example, you must find or create ways of absorbing new information, integrating it by putting it into your own words and contexts and then transmitting it by effectively communicating what you know to others. Apply this basic three-fold process to each of the eight functions and it soon becomes very clear just how much work it takes to actually increase your intelligence.

It all starts with confessing your specific area of ignorance and intelligence. I am, for example, a social idiot with a high emotional intelligence. I can be very emotionally honest and attuned to the real feelings of others but have had to develop the necessary social skills to get along with people in social settings. After realizing my social idiocy I started going to a lot of parties just to see how long I could endure the social climate without putting people off with my honesty.

Any other confessions of ignorance and intelligence out there ?

All this talk about CBT induced me to give Prometheus Rising another read. I just got a new copy in the mail today and see that there's a new introduction (it's the revised edition). My first copy was the 1995 edition and in this new edition Bob writes that he gave it a "face lift". Anybody here know what he added/deleted/revised? The last time I read this was sometime in 1997, I think. Oh well, I guess I'm about to find out. Also, anybody here going to Santa Cruz?

Circumstances of birth and the circuits

RAW writes much about the breast in his discussion of the first circuit, but doesn't say anything about birth and the first circuit. Unfortunately, my copy of Angel Tech is vacationing with the flake I loaned it to, so I couldn't check that.

So, sherpa, and everyone else, any theories? Does the imprint of a person born at home differ from one born in a hospital? Normal birth vs. C-Section? What about breach babies?

I also had a thought while reading PR last night - Bob talks about "sets of programs" which got me wondering if that means there exist multiple C1 imprints, from birth and first nursing and the average time it took for Ma and Pa to respond when I'd start screaming, etc. I have a feeling this may be a "well, yeah, duh" for many, in which case I apologize for taking so long to figure it out. :P

Circuits=Chakras....I MUST be trippin'!

I have posted most of these thoughts in other tribes, but wanted to open it up for discussion here:

It is my experience (and intuition) that each of the chakras has a correlating plant or chemical that can aid in its opening. These thoughts are based on my own meditations, entheogenic explorations, and readings (please see blog for furthur details).

So it would seem to me that the higher chakras correlate with each of the following plants and chemicals. I would appreciate any feedback (even a "you're crrrazy bro! is feedback) on this:

Crown: DMT
Third Eye: LSD
Throat: Psilocybin (ever hear the theory that magic mushrooms led to the evolution of language...ode to terence mckennna!)
Heart: MDMA
Solar Plexus: Mescaline/Peyote
Lower chakras: Opiates, Alcohol, Coca and speed....Salvia?

Anyone experience their chakras opening after ingesting the above? do your experiences, intuitions (always listen...hard), and readings support or refute the above?

I'd love to hear about it....in the process of putting a book together....

On 1/15/07, i discovered that some of Leary's writings may point to similar thinking...but using an 8-cicuit model rather than the chakras.

in short, leary described the ability to experience these circuits using the following:

circuit 1: opiates
circuit 2: alcohol
circuit 3: caffeine, speed
circuit 4: yet to be discovered (hmmmm...MDMA?)
circuits 5, 6, 7: mescaline, psilocybin, lsd
circuit 8: ketamine

If you have the time and interest, check it out....i really think there is something here.

Here's the text:

Tunnel-Realities and Imprints
Let's try Dr. Leary's perspective on these mysteries.

To understand neurological space, Dr. Leary assumes that the nervous system consists of eight potential circuits, or "gears," or mini-brains. Four of these brains are in the usually active left lobe and are concerned with our terrestrial survival; four are extraterrestrial, reside in the "silent" or inactive right lobe, and are for use in our future evolution. This explains why the right lobe is usually inactive at this stage of our development, and why it becomes active when the person ingests psychedelics.

We will explain each of the eight "brains" briefly.

I. THE BIO-SURVIVAL CIRCUIT
This invertebrate brain was the first to evolve (2 to 3 billion years ago) and is the first activated when a human infant is born. It programs perception onto an either-or grid divided into nurturing-helpful Things (which it approaches) and noxious-dangerous Things (which it flees, or attacks). The imprinting of this circuit sets up the basic attitude of trust or suspicion which will ever after trigger approach or avoidance.

II. THE EMOTIONAL CIRCUIT
This second, more advanced bio-computer formed when vertebrates appeared and began to compete for territory (perhaps 500,000,000 B.C.). In the individual, this bigger tunnel-reality is activated when the DNA master-tape triggers the metamorphosis from crawling to walking. As every parent knows, the toddler is no longer a passive (bio-survival) infant but a mammalian politician, full of physical (and psychic) territorial demands, quick to meddle in family business and decision-making. Again the first imprint on this circuit remains constant for life (unless brainwashed) and identifies the stimuli which will automatically trigger dominant, aggressive behavior or submissive, cooperative behavior. When we say that a person is behaving emotionally, egotistically or 'like a two-year-old,' we mean that s/he is blindly following one of the tunnel-realities imprinted on this circuit.

III. THE DEXTERITY-SYMBOLISM CIRCUIT
This third brain was formed when hominid types began to differentiate from other primate stock (circa 4-5 million B.C.) and is activated for the linear left-lobe functions of the brain, determines our normal modes of artifact-manufacture and conceptual thought, i.e., third circuit 'mind.'

It is no accident, then, that our logic (and our computer-design) follows either-or, binary structure of these circuits. Nor is it an accident that our geometry, until the last century, has been Euclidean. Euclid's geometry, Aristotle's logic and Newton's physics are meta-programs synthesizing and generalizing first brain forward-back, second brain up-down and third brain right-left programs.

IV. THE SOCIAL-SEXUAL CIRCUIT
The fourth brain, dealing with the transmission of tribal or ethnic culture across generations, introduces the fourth dimension, time.

Since each of these tunnel-realities consists of biochemical imprints or matrices in the nervous system, each of them is specifically triggered by neuro-transmitters and other drugs.

NOTICE how drugs that stimulate the first four circuits, which are already activated, tend to be dangerously addictive, roughly ordered ascending from the first circuit. -deoxy
To activate the first brain take an opiate. Mother Opium and Sister Morphine bring you down to cellular intelligence, bio-survival passivity, the floating consciousness of the newborn. (This is why Freudians identify opiate addiction with the desire to return to infancy.)

To activate the second tunnel-reality, take an abundant quantity of alcohol. Vertebrate territorial patterns and mammalian emotional politics immediately appear when the booze flows, as Thomas Nashe intuitively realized when he characterized the various alcohol states by animal labels: "ass drunk," "goat drunk," "swine drunk," "bear drunk," etc.

To activate the third circuit, try coffee or tea, a high-protein diet, speed or cocaine.

The specific neurotransmitter for circuit four has not been synthesized yet, but it is generated by the glands after pubescence and flows volcanically through the bloodstreams of adolescents.

NONE OF THESE TERRESTRIAL DRUGS CHANGE BASIC BIOCHEMICAL IMPRINTS. The behaviors which they trigger are those which were wired into the nervous system during the first stages of imprint vulnerability. The circuit II drunk exhibits the emotional games or cons learned from parents in infancy. The circuit III "mind" never gets beyond the permutations and combinations of those tunnel-realities originally imprinted, or abstractions associated with the imprints through later conditioning. And so forth.

But all this Pavlovian-Skinnerian robotism changes drastically and dramatically when we turn to the right lobe, the future circuits and extraterrestrial chemicals.
The four evolving future 'brains' are:

V. THE NEUROSOMATIC CIRCUIT
When this fifth "body-brain" is activated, flat Euclidean figure-ground configurations explode multi-dimensionally. Gestalts shift, in McLuhan's terms, from linear VISUAL SPACE to all-encompassing SENSORY SPACE. A hedonic turn-on occurs, a rapturous amusement, a detachment from the previously compulsive mechanism of the first four circuits. I turned this circuit on with pot and Tantra.

This fifth brain began to appear about 4,000 years ago in the first leisure-class civilizations and has been increasing statistically in recent centuries (even before the Drug Revolution), a fact demonstrated by the hedonic art of India, China, Rome and other affluent societies. More recently, Ornstein and his school have demonstrated with electroencephalograms that this circuit represents the first jump from the linear left lobe of the brain to the analogical right lobe.

The opening and imprinting of this circuit has been the preoccupation of "technicians of the occult"--Tantric shamans and hatha yogis. While the fifth tunnel-reality can be achieved by sensory deprivation, social isolation, physiological stress or severe shock (ceremonial terror tactics, as practiced by such rascal-gurus as Don Juan Matus or Aleister Crowley), it has traditionally been reserved to the educated aristocracy of leisure societies who have solved the four terrestrial survival problems.

About 20,000 years ago, the specific fifth brain neurotransmitter was discovered by shamans in the Caspian Sea area of Asia and quickly spread to other wizards throughout Eurasia and Africa. It is, of course, cannabis. Weed. Mother Mary Jane.

It is no accident that the pot-head generally refers to his neural state as "high" or "spaced-out." The transcendence of gravitational, digital, linear, either-or, Aristotelian, Newtonian, Euclidean, planetary orientations (circuits I-IV) is, in evolutionary perspective, part of our neurological preparation for the inevitable migration off our home planet, now beginning. This is why so many pot-heads are STAR TREK freaks and science fiction adepts. (Berkeley, California, certainly the Cannabis Capital of the U.S., has a Federation Trading Post on Telegraph Avenue, where the well-heeled can easily spend $500 or more in a single day, buying STAR TREK novels, magazines, newsletters, bumper stickers, photographs, posters, tapes, etc., including even complete blueprints for the starship ENTERPRISE.)

The extraterrestrial meaning of being "high" is confirmed by astronauts themselves; 85% of those who have entered the free-fall zero gravity describe "mystic experiences" or rapture states typical of the neurosomatic circuit. "No photo can show how beautiful Earth looked," raves Captain Ed Mitchell, describing his Illumination in free-fall. He sounds like any successful yogi or pot-head. No camera can show this experience because it is inside the nervous system.

FREE-FALL, AT THE PROPER EVOLUTIONARY TIME, TRIGGERS THE NEUROSOMATIC MUTATION, Leary believes. Previously this mutation has been achieved "artificially" by yogic or shamanic training or by the fifth circuit stimulant, cannabis. Surfing, skiing, skin-diving and the new sexual culture (sensuous massage, vibrators, imported Tantric arts, etc.) have evolved at the same time as part of the hedonic conquest of gravity. The Turn-On state is always described as "floating," or, in the Zen metaphor, "one foot above the ground."

VI. THE NEUROELECTRIC CIRCUIT
The sixth brain consists of the nervous system becoming aware of itself apart from imprinted gravitational reality-maps (circuits I-IV) and even apart from body-rapture (circuit V). Count Korzybski, the semanticist, called this state "consciousness of abstracting." Dr. John Lilly calls it "metaprogramming," i.e., awareness of programming one's programming. This Einsteinian, relativistic contelligence (consciousness-intelligence) recognizes, for instance, that the Euclidean, Newtonian and Aristotelian reality-maps are just three among billions of possible programs or models for experience. I turned this circuit on with Peyote, LSD and Crowley's "magick" metaprograms.

This level of brain-functioning seems to have been reported first around 500 B.C. among various "occult" groups connected by the Silk Route (Rome-North India). It is so far beyond the terrestrial tunnel-realities that those who have achieved it can barely communicate about it to ordinary humanity (circuits I-IV) and can hardly be understood even by fifth circuit Rapture Engineers.

The characteristics of the neuroelectric circuit are high velocity, multiple choice, relativity, and the fission-fusion of all perceptions into parallel science-fiction universes of alternate possibilities.

The mammalian politics which monitor power struggles among terrestrial humanity are here transcended, i.e., seen as static, artificial, an elaborate charade. One is neither coercively manipulated into another's territorial reality nor forced to struggle against it with reciprocal emotional game-playing (the usual soap-opera dramatics). One simply elects, consciously, whether or not to share the other's reality-model.

Tactics for opening and imprinting the sixth circuit are described and rarely experienced in advanced rajah yoga, and in the hermetic (coded) manuals of the medieval-Renaissance alchemists and Illuminati.

No specific sixth circuit chemical is yet available, but strong psychedelics like mescaline (from my 1962-63 "sacred cactus," peyotl) and psilocybin (from the Mexican "magic mushroom," teonactl) open the nervous system to a mixed-media series of circuit V and circuit VI channels. This is appropriately called "tripping," as distinguished from straight-forward fifth circuit "turning on" or "getting high."

The suppression of scientific research in this area has had the unfortunate result of turning the outlaw drug culture back toward fifth circuit hedonics and pre-scientific tunnel-realities (the occult revival, solipsism, Pop Orientalism). Without scientific discipline and methodology, few can successfully decode the often-frightening (but philosophically crucial) sixth circuit metaprogramming signals. Such scientists as do continue to study this subject dare not publish their results (which are illegal) and record ever-wider tunnel-realities only in private conversations--like the scholars of the Inquisitorial era. (Voltaire announced the Age of Reason two centuries too soon. We are still in the Dark Ages.) Most underground alchemists have given up on such challenging and risky self-work and restrict their trips to fifth circuit erotic tunnels.

The evolutionary function of the sixth circuit is to enable us to communicate at Einsteinian relativities and neuro-electric accelerations, not using third circuit laryngeal-manual symbols but directly via feedback, telepathy and computer link-up. Neuro-electric signals will increasingly replace "speech" (hominid grunts) after space migration.

When humans have climbed out of the atmosphere-gravity well of planetary life, accelerated sixth circuit contelligence will make possible high-energy communication with "Higher Intelligences," i.e., ourselves-in-the-future and other post-terrestrial races.

It is charmingly simple and obvious, once we realize that the spaced-out neural experiences really are extraterrestrial, that getting high and spacing out are accurate metaphors. Circuit V neurosomatic rapture is preparation for the next step in our evolution, migration off the planet. Circuit VI is preparation for the step after that, interspecies communication with advanced entities possessing electronic (post-verbal) tunnel-realities.

Circuit VI is the "universal translator" often imagined by science-fiction writers, already built into our brains by the DNA tape. Just as the circuits of the future butterfly are already built into the caterpillar.

VII. THE NEUROGENETIC CIRCUIT
The seventh brain kicks into action when the nervous system begins to receive signals from WITHIN THE INDIVIDUAL NEURON, from the DNA-RNA dialogue. The first to achieve this mutation spoke of "memories of past lives," "reincarnation," "immortality," etc. That these adepts were recording something real is indicated by the fact that many of them (especially Hindu and Sufis) gave marvelously accurately poetic vistas of evolution 1,000 or 2,000 years before Darwin, and foresaw Superhumanity before Nietzsche.

The "akashic records" of Theosophy, the "collective unconscious" of Jung, the "phylogenetic unconscious" of Grof and Ring, are three modern metaphors for this circuit. The visions of past and future evolution described by those who have had "out-of-body" experiences during close-to-death episodes also describes the trans-time circuit VII tunnel-reality.

Specific exercises to trigger circuit VII are not to be found in yogic teaching; it usually happens, if at all, after several years of the kind of advanced rajah yoga that develops circuit VI facility.

The specific circuit VII neurotransmitter is, of course LSD. (Peyote and psilocybin produce some circuit VII experiences also.)

Circuit VII is best considered, in terms of 1977 science, as the genetic archives, activated by anti-histone proteins. The DNA memory coiling back to the dawn of life. A sense of the inevitability of immortality and interspecies symbiosis comes to all circuit VII mutants; we now see that this, also, is an evolutionary forecast, since WE STAND RIGHT NOW ON THE DOOR-STEP OF EXTENDED LONGEVITY LEADING TO IMMORTALITY.

The exact role of the right-lobe circuits and the reason for their activation in the 1960s cultural revolution now becomes clear. As sociologist F.M. Esfandiary writes in UPWINGERS, "Today when we speak of immortality and of going to another world we no longer mean these in a theological or metaphysical sense. People are now traveling to other worlds. People are now striving for immortality. Transcendence is no longer a metaphysical concept. It has become reality."

The evolutionary function of the seventh circuit and its evolutionary, aeon-spanning tunnel-reality is to prepare us for conscious immortality and interspecies symbiosis.

VIII. THE NEURO-ATOMIC CIRCUIT
Hold on to your hats and breathe deeply--this is the farthest-out that human intelligence has yet ventured.

Consciousness probably precedes the biological unit or DNA tape-loop. "Out-of-body experiences," "astral projection," contact with alien (extraterrestrial?) "entities" or with a galactic Overmind, etc., such as I've experienced, have all been reported for thousands of years, not merely by the ignorant, the superstitious, the gullible, but often by the finest minds among us (Socrates, Giordano Bruno, Edison, Buckminster Fuller, etc.). Such experiences are reported daily to parapsychologists and have been experienced by such scientists as Dr. John Lilly and Carlos Castaneda. Dr. Kenneth Ring has attributed these phenomena to what he calls, very appropriately, "the extraterrestrial unconscious."

Dr. Leary suggests that circuit VIII is literally neuro-atomic--infra, supra and meta-physiological--a quantum model of consciousness and/or a conscious model of quantum mechanics by the turned-on physicists discussed previously (Prof. John Archibald Wheeler, Saul-Paul Sirag, Dr. Fritjof Capra, Dr. Jack Sarfatti, etc.) indicates strongly that the "atomic consciousness" first suggested by Leary in "The Seven Tongues of God" (1962) is the explanatory link which will unite parapsychology and paraphysics into the first scientific empirical experimental theology in history.

When the nervous system is turned on to this quantum-level circuit, space-time is obliterated. Einstein's speed-of-light barrier is transcended; in Dr. Sarfatti's metaphor, we escape "electromagnetic chauvinism." The contelligence within the quantum projection booth IS the entire cosmic "brain," just as the micro-miniaturized DNA helix IS the local brain guiding planetary evolution. As Lao-tse said from his own Circuit VIII perspective, "The greatest is within the smallest."

Circuit VIII is triggered by Ketamine, a neuro-chemical researched by Dr. John Lilly, which is also (according to a wide-spread but unconfirmed rumor) given to astronauts to prepare them for space. High doses of LSD also produce some circuit VIII quantum awareness.

This neuro-atomic contelligence is four mutations beyond terrestrial domesticity. (The current ideological struggle is between circuit IV tribal moralists-or-collectivists and circuit V hedonic individualists.) When our need for higher intelligence, richer involvement in the cosmic script, further transcendence, will no longer be satisfied by physical bodies, not even by immortal bodies hopping across space-time at Warp 9, circuit VIII will open a further frontier. New universes and realities. "Beyond theology: the science and art of Godmanship," as Alan Watts once wrote.

It is therefore possible that the mysterious "entities" (angels and extraterrestrials) monotonously reported by circuit VIII visionaries are members or races already evolved to this level. But it is also possible, as Leary and Sarfatti more recently suggest, that They are ourselves-in-the-future.

The left-lobe terrestrial circuits contain the learned lessons of our evolutionary past (and present). The right-lobe extraterrestrial circuits are the evolutionary script for out future.

Thus far, there have been two alternative explanations of why the Drug Revolution happened. The first is presented in a sophisticated way by anthropologist Weston LaBarre, and in an ignorant, moralistic way by most anti-drug propaganda in the schools and mass media. This explanation says, in essence, that millions have turned away from the legal DOWN drugs to illegal HIGH drugs because we are living in troubled times and many are seeking escape into fantasy.

This theory, at its best, only partially explains the ugliest and most publicized aspect of the revolution--the reckless drug abuse characteristic of the immature. It says nothing about the millions of respectable doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc., who have turned away from second circuit intoxication with booze to fifth circuit rapture with weed.

Nor does it account at all for the thoughtful, philosophical sixth circuit investigations of persons of high intelligence and deep sensibility, such as Aldous Huxley, Dr. Stanley Grof, Masters-Houston, Alan W. Watts, Carlos Castaneda, Dr. John Lilly and thousands of scientific and lay researchers on consciousness.

A more plausible theory, devised by psychiatrist Norman Zinberg out of the work of Marshall McLuhan, holds that modern electronic media have so shifted the nervous system's parameters that young people no longer enjoy "linear" drugs like alcohol and find meaning only in "non-linear" weed and psychedelics.

This is certainly part of the truth, but it is too narrow and overstresses TV and computers without sufficiently stressing the general technological picture--the ongoing Science-Fiction Revolution of which the most significant aspects are Space Migration, Increased Intelligence and Life Extension, which Leary has condensed into his SMI_LE formula.

Space Migration plus Increased Intelligence plus Life Extension means expansion of humanity into all space-time. SM + I_ + LE = infinity.

Without totally endorsing Charles Fort's technological mysticism ("It steam-engines when it comes steam-engine time"), it is obvious that the DNA metaprogram for planetary evolution is far wiser than any of our individual nervous systems--which are, in a sense, giant robots or sensors for DNA. Early science-fiction of brilliant writers like Stapledon, Clarke, Heinlein; Kubrick's 2001--all were increasingly clear DNA signals transmitted through the intuitive right lobe of sensitive artists, preparing us for the extraterrestrial mutation.

It is scarcely coincidental that mainstream "literary" intellectuals--the heir of the Platonic-aristocratic tradition that a gentleman never uses his hands, monkeys with tools or learns a manual craft--despise both science-fiction and the dope culture. Nor is it coincidental that the WHOLE EARTH CATALOGS - created by Stewart Brand, a graduate of Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters--are the New Testament of the rural drop-out culture, each issue bulging with tons of eco-technological information about all the manual, dextrous, gadgety know-how that Plato and his heirs consider fit only for slaves. Not surprisingly, Brand's latest publication, CO-EVOLUTION QUATERLY, has been devoted to publicizing Prof. Gerard O'Neill's space-habitat, L5.

Nor is it an accident that dopers seem to prefer science-fiction to any other reading, even including the extraterrestrial-flavored Hindu scriptures and occult-shamanic circuit VI-VIII trip-poets like Crowley and Hesse.

The circuit VI drugs may have contributed much to the metaprogramming consciousness that has led to sudden awareness of "male chauvinism" (women's liberationists), "species chauvinism" (ecology, Lilly's dolphin studies), "type-G star chauvinism" (Carl Sagan), even "oxygen chauvinism" (the CETI conference), etc. The imprinted tunnel-realities which identify one as "white-male-American-earthian" etc. or "black-female-Cuban" etc. are no longer big enough to enclose our exploding contelligence.

As TIME magazine said on November 26, 1973, "Within ten years, according to pharmacologists, they will have perfected pills and cranial electrodes of providing life-long bliss for everyone on Earth." The 1960s hysteria about weed and acid was just the overture to this fifth circuit break-through. Nathan S. Kline, M.D., predicts real aphrodisiacs, drugs to speed up learning, drugs to foster or terminate any behavior. ... Those who were jailed or beaten by cops in the 1960s were forerunners of the Revolution of Inner Technology.

STAR TREK is a better guide to the emerging reality than anything in the NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS. The life-support and defense-system engineer, Scotty (circuit I), the emotional-sentimental Dr. McCoy (circuit II), the logical science officer Mr. Spock (circuit III) and the alternately paternalistic and romantic Captain Kirk (circuit IV) are perpetually voyaging through our future neurological history and encountering circuit V, VI, VII, and VIII intelligences, however crudely presented.

In short, the various levels of consciousness and circuits we have been discussing, and illustrating, are all biochemical imprints in the evolution of the nervous system. Each imprint creates a bigger tunnel-reality. In the Sufi metaphor, the donkey on the which we ride becomes a different donkey after each imprint. The metaprogrammer continually learns more and is increasingly able to be aware of itself operating. We are thus evolving to intelligence-studying-intelligence (the nervous system studying the nervous system) and are more and more capable of accelerating our own evolution.

Leary now symbolizes intelligence-studying-intelligence by the mark, I_. On the lower levels, you see with one "I", so to speak. On the higher levels, you see with many "I"s, and space-time shifts from three Euclidean dimensions to non-Euclidean multi-dimensionality.

Robert Anton Wilson passed away yesterday after a long battle with reoccuring polio. Meeting Bob, as he was called by everyone around him, changed my life. Besides inspiring me to write ANGEL TECH, Bob's writings and, more accurately, his very person encouraged me to use my head in ways I never thought possible. I think that Bob had this kind of effect on almost everyone who came into contact with him.

I have started writing a series of short episodes on how I met Bob and what happned thereafter that may, or may not, find publication somewhere. Until then, I have posted these excerpts as a work in progress at:

Hi Folks

I'm currently working on a personal project looking at ways of synthesising NLP derived techniques and hypnosis with the 8-circuit model... it's an exciting revisit to the 8-circuit model after a couple of decades (I made a dedication in my mid twenties to cease my occult etc studies for 20 years while I engaged in working, raising a family etc... I had good reasons at the time :-) )... Antero, your book is a work of inspired genius with a lateral mercurial quality I envy healthily ;-)

As some of my work involves creating congruent music for trance sessions, does anyone have any thoughts about circuit "activation" and music?
4th circuit & sexual preference

Question:
It's been a number of years since I read Info Psychology, Prometheus Rising, and Angel Tech. I've read each of these at least four to five times and did a presentation on the 8-circuit model at a university many years ago. Somebody asked me a question a few days ago and I responded with "that's a good question, I'll have to look into that 'cause right now I don't know".

The question involves sexual preference (gay, straight, bisexual). A co-worker and I were discussing my thoughts regarding this topic and I explained that gender preference seems to be determined between four to six years of age, predicated upon one's coping with the Oedipal dilemma. This co-worker had, years earlier, discussed the 8-circuit model with me at length. I don't recall reading anything on the 8-circuit model regarding gender preference, although other sexual issues are discussed regarding circuit four in the books cited above.

I appreciate your thoughts on this topic.

Just dug up this quote and thought I'd post it (and RAW's response).

Pete Carroll (chaos magickian, rebel physicist) sez:
The Wilson/Leary 8 circuit model certainly looks like an upgrade on the Freudian 3 circuit Id, Ego, Superego model, but only in terms of quantitative complexity. It still seems to exhibit the same sort of heirachical and moralistic qualities but they have expanded and adopted computer analogies. I remain sceptical of all attempts to make complete maps of the mind, (no matter how superficially convincing they may appear), on the purely cybernetic principle that any control mechanism must have greater complexity than that which it controls, ergo, if we think we have a complete map of the mind then we don't.
To me that the parallel processing ability of the mind seems far more significant than any heirachical structure I can see in it, in other words maybe the mind does contain those 8 circuits and much else besides, but they usually function several at a time; hence we remain something of a mystery to ourselves.
Pete.

and RAW responds:
I emphatically agree with Peter's remark that any model
of mind "is" incomplete -- or as Korzybski wd/ say, needs an
"etc." after it.
See Chapter 18 of Prometheus Rising

Im about to start a sexual re-imprinting process, i.e. abstinence for 30 days and re-imprinting. Ive had quite a lot of
experience with hypnosis before -- how specifically could i use this to increase the impact of the re-imprint? Regression work?

I recently had an imprint that was less than desireable, and i want to change it, should i work directly with that experience?

And this is a bit controversial but which psychoactive substances could enhance the impact of the re-imprint? Im
thinking MDMA or Psylocybin. NOTE: Ive had extensive experience with these substances, and any advice on this
subject would be for informational purposes only, and would not be viewed by me as an endorsement of these
substances or recommendation for their use, nor an advocation of anything illegal etc etc.

The 8-Circuit model of the brain is a good one but I can't be the whole story. If it is than what circuit does Ahayausca activate, or iboga, or D.P.T.? I just think that there are so many different drugs out there that do such a complex variety of things and that you would be hard pressed to neatly fit them all into the 8-circuit model.

the book i wrote with CS Hyatt

Back in 1988, I wrote a book with the infamous Christopher S. Hyatt, PhD called, "Modern Shaman's Guide to a Pregnant Universe", which stayed in print for a few years and then disappeared. That happens a lot in the high stakes publishing world. What doesn't happen nearly as often is when a book gets brought back into print many years later. Today I just received a box of my "author's copies" of the 2006 edition of Pregnant Universe (which I can also sell for full profit and autograph them, too.)

Of my seven books now in print, this was handsdown the most fun to put together (writing books isn't my idea of a good time) mostly because Hyatt and i finished it after writing it together every day for a few weeks. For those who do not know about Dr. Hyatt, he is one of the chief heads of The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a brilliant psychologist and author of numerous books. He is also a very funny and very dangerous man (read his books to know what I mean).

What is this book about ?!

It's about how words act as drugs and how you can access and trigger various trances and states of consciousness through creative arrangement of how words are used. It's not NLP or a newage self-help book; it's honestly unlike any other book I've read. It's also very funny and entertaining. To give you an idea of its outrageous sense of humor, check out this link to these application forms for hiring new gods (and firing old useless ones):

I have started writing a series of brief chapters on the curious incidents surrounding and following my initial meeting with Bob. Though these chapters have been stewing in me for decades, I had no reason to write them down until I heard the news of his rapidly waning health. This shock jolted the jumping jesus out of me and the words just flowed. I don't know yet how many chapters I will write or if they will become a book or part of a larger book of memoirs I've been thinking of writing. For now, I have posted them here for you to read.

possessor and possessed

Ramblings from "my" mind......

Are the possessor and the possessed merely illusions? Can things really "be possessed", or is this act of possession just a figment of the imagination? Can imagination "be possessed", or is imagination just imagination? Are these fingers typing "my" fingers? They are not anyone elses! But is this computer really "my computer"? Do I possess it, or am I just imagining that I do? I have a body, and I use that body. Or do I? I almost feel like I experience more productivity and satisfaction if I allow things to happen through the body, as opposed to trying to make them happen with the body. The difference is extremely subtle to me, but intense none the less.
Any resonations?

Correspondences for the 8 Circuit Model

Are there correspondences for each circuit in the sense of the correspondences in 777?
Colours, scents, days of the week, things like that? Specifically Im interested whether these
things could be useful for re-imprinting purposes

getting started: what is intelligence ? (part two)

To get inside The 8-Circuit Brain model of Intellience Increase, a few terms need to be defined. The catch is defining these terms in your own words, in your own way, rather than parroting something you read in a book or were told. These terms are contained in the following two questions and can be defined by your answers:

1) what is intelligence ? how do you define this ?

2) according to your definition of intellience, how can it be increased or furthered ?

ps: there are no wrong answers here. your definitions only determine the kind of intelligence you are defining

NLP Submodalities and Multiple Selves

So in the NLP submodalities model, pictures, sounds etc are in specific locations in space.
By moving pictures and sounds around you can change the effects these have on consciousness.
How does this relate to the multiple selves model? Does each self have specific content,
movies, voices etc associated only with it, or is the content available to each self but in a
different location for different selves? If you move a picture when associated as a particular
self does the change only affect the organisation of content for that self or for other selves also?

what happens to most pieces of truth

I was emailed this and thought people here might appreciate this, so I am posting it here.

One day Mara, the Buddhist god of ignorance and evil, was traveling through the villages of India with his attendants. He saw a man doing walking meditation whose face was lit up in wonder. The man had just discovered something on the ground in front of him. Mara's attendants asked what that was and Mara replied, "A piece of truth." "Doesn't this bother you when someone finds a piece of the truth, O evil one?" his attendants asked. "No," Mara replied. "Right after this they usually make a belief out of it."

Are finer states of awareness are only temporary?

Maybe if we come to grips with this fact then we can begin to approach the whole condition we are in from a more realistic and balanced point of departure. I don't see enlightenment as being even remotely constant. I think we can learn from these states and aspire to them but to desire to live in them is an unrealistic goal to be avoided. It would be like attempting to bowl a strike all the time. Only disappointment and eventual dis-"spare" will follow. Higher states are wonderful and a gift; but they are simply needed vacations form temporal awareness. How many people have been use by false Gurus from the beginning of time chasing this dream? Am I alone on this? Does anyone truly think the mind can become constant?
