Re: Inayan Eskrima
Tue, November 4, 2003 - 3:20 PMWell, not Inayan per se, but my style (Defensor Method) incorporates a lot of Serrada stuff, which is where Inay derived a lot of his material, so there are a lot of overlaps.
Of course, this can be said about all the FMAs. My friends and I have a joke about this:
How many Filipino martial artists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Twelve (of course) - one to do it, and the other eleven to say "hey! we do something kinda like that".
*grin*
Then, to digress, there's how many Thai boxers it takes to put in a light bulb: Two, one to hold the bulb in place, and one to POUND it into the socket with his shin

Re: Inayan Eskrima
Fri, November 7, 2003 - 1:42 PMRight now I'm in Western Mass, and I've worked out a couple of times with an Arnis/Pikiti Tirsia group out here. Haven't been in active training much recently though. I'm going to go join up with some jujitsu guys in Northampton next week and see how that goes.
You? -

Re: Inayan Eskrima
Sat, November 8, 2003 - 6:42 PMCool. I'm in Oakland CA, I also train jujitsu (Danzan Ryu). Our sensei has incorporated Kadena de Mano into our jujitsu curriculum--which actually follows tradition somewhat, as the founder of our system drew from the Filipino martial arts to create Danzan Ryu. -

Mon, February 13, 2006 - 11:04 AMFred must be busy training ...
Fred's teacher is Mike Esmailzadeh. He originally trained under Mike Inay and now teaches the Inayan system of Eskrima under the direction of Suro Jason Inay and Masirib Guro Jena Inay. He also thanks Shihan Russ Rhodes for the teachings he has provided in that system.

Re: Inayan Eskrima
Mon, August 28, 2006 - 2:45 PMI received training in what I call modified Inayan Eskrima for 2 years under my older cousin, who received full instruction from my great uncle Ray, an early student ranked Guro under Guro Mike Inay. I trained for 2 solid years. I am still a practitioner, though I am currently receiving instruction in the Garimot system. Boy, let me tell you, whoever says that all Escrima is the same, has yet to witness the alien footwork and stickwork of this system! To me, it's alien. I've only had 1 lesson thus far, but am enjoying it immensely! (If interested in learning more about this system, visit www.garimot.com). To note, I believe my great uncle Ray is/was half of "Macias-Subega Fighting Systems", which incorporate old-style Kenpo with Inayan, anything more than that, I don't know (I don't know him very well, as my family is so spread out). I added this info in case anybody has information on it, please pass it on to me! I myself am aspiring to incorporate Silat/Kuntaw/Kuntao into the whole of my martial training. To note, training in Serrada, then meeting others who train in different Escrima/Kali systems, it is apparent that there is a percentage of people who are either misinformed in regard to Serrada as we understand it here in Northern California, and/or how devastating it truly is. I say: Serrada brothers and sisters, ACTIVATE! Form of: medium-sized kamagong stick! Shape of: ass kicking Serrada person who swings their shit fast as lightning! Hahahaha :P
PS- Hmm Defensor Method huh? I'm gonna have to check that out! I'm always researching!
Peace, ~John.
