Whats up FMA family,
I am planning to purchase a few bladed weapons by years' end and since I am a serious student I am using discretion before I buy ANYTHING.
I am planning to purchase some weapons along the lines of:
Ginunting (first choice)
Sundang Kris
Talibong
Espada Y Daga (Visayan)
Kris Daga
and, if that wasn't all, I really want a:
Lampirong
...
My concerns are Balance, Quality of Steel, Craftsmanship, and overall authenticity of the weapon as well as Scabbard.
Not to mention I don't know the laws regarding importing and purchasing weapons from the P.I./Indonesia/Malaysia to Northern California where I eek out a living...
One consideration I've had is ValiantCo. as well as Kris Cutlery.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Share your experience with us...
~John.

Sun, December 30, 2007 - 4:12 PMI've made several purchases from Kris Cutlery and remain quite pleased with them. They seem to have very high quality standards, and take pride in their products. -

Mon, May 5, 2008 - 1:11 AMwhat is a lampirong? tell you what though.....if you practice your art well, you can adapt filipino bladed martial arts to any martial arts weapon, weather it be a machete, kung fu sword, or samurai or medieval european sword. -

Mon, May 5, 2008 - 1:19 AMthe kriss cutlery people seem to charge alot. perhaps they use some of the finest materials.
the only filipino weapon other than my balisongs I have been able to purchase was my bolo barong from Cold Steel. I am looking forward to using it in Juramentado. It is very sturdy and I have all the confidence in the world in it holding up well in combat.
That is a ritual, though.
In everyday real world combat I dont think I will encounter much genuine filipino style weapons getting into my hands, so I train filipino techniques with more common blades and weapons to my area.

Mon, May 5, 2008 - 9:50 PMI've known Cecil a long time. His stuff is quite good. And he won't take your money and disappear. The antiques are pricey. The rest are par for the course.
Valiantco has some really good blades, but they've had some supply problems in the past.
