Hello,

My sister and I are starting a non profit organization here in Tucson, AZ. It is dedicated to helping mothers provide for their children.. We accomplish that by giving them diapers, clothes, baby furniture, gift cards and more. Our web site is www.from1mother2another.com. We are in desperate need of all sizes of diapers and gift cards. We are just starting and are in the planning stages of fundraising. Any ideas or comments are appreciated!

Thanks again!
Naomi Caraballo

04/19-04/24 Introduction to Cob and Natural Building Prescott, AZ
Hey folks, a Friend of mine is hosting a workshop in AZ building a cob/natural building greenhouse. Whether you want to build a cob oven, bench, studio, or other such space...or are inspired by the ecological/community awareness, while simultaneously creating a tangible product you should check this out. If anyone is interested either personally or professionally in such a workshop you should look into www.SGNB.com (thats for Seven Generations Natural Builders).

Sasha Rabin (sasha@sgnb.com)
Sasha Rabin has a degree in Ecological Design from Evergreen State College. She has studied natural and traditional methods of building in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Indonesia, and the southwest United States. Following an apprentice at the Cob Cottage Company she worked with them as an assistant instructor(2001) and went on to co-found Seven Genereation Natural Builders in 2003. She built a cob dwelling in the southwest US that she is curently living in. She contuinues to teach with SGNB, as well teaching as a guest instructor at the Real Good Institute for Solar Living(www.realgoods.com) / and Yestermorrow Design/Build School. (www.yestermorrow.org/)

(She is also flexible on the price if that is an issue but for a workshop that is a fair number!!!)

* linear isolations
* hybrids
* composite spinning

After all the learning and exploration, we will of course end the night with fire spinning, so bring your wicks and fuel!

Alien Jons Bio:
Jonathan Everett has been spinning things since childhood, starting with himself, and expanding to socks with tennis balls in them and sticks found in the woods of Maine. Starting with his first pair of devilstix in 1995, he officially entered the world of object manipulation. In 1999, from a foundation built on devilstix and drawing inspiration from T'ai Ji and Aikido, he began spinning glowing objects on strings or in socks at "all night dance parties". After meeting other spinners he learned that objects had been spun in a similar manner for millennia by ancient cultures from around the world. This gave rise to the discovery of fire spinning, and his dedication to the art of contemporary poi began.
From devilstix and poi other object manipulation quickly followed: Sphereplay, staff, meteor, diabolo, and astrojax to name a few. These talents have been melded with a love of music and dance, including liquid, illusional, and funk styles. Jon loves to play and lives for the spark of innovation and creativity, while further honing his skill through diligent practice.
Jon has performed at the Fringe Benefit for the 1st Annual Boulder Fringe Festival, the 1st Annual Boulder Juggling Festival, Ratuva Circus performance and workshops, COSM Fire, the 2007 Burning Man Conclave, and with the ExtraTerrestrial Circus Experiment. He has taught classes around the country in poi, sphereplay, and devilstix at the Double Rainbow Ranch, Boulder Circus Center, 1st Annual Boulder Juggling Festival, Shepherd Valley Waldorf School, SphereCamp East and West, Domba/Mystic Jewell Dance Studio, Wildfire (CT), Florida State University, and at Renaissance Festivals country-wide. He also teaches private lessons.

Zan's Bio:
Zan started performing in South America on tour with his brother Noah, and continues to burn with the same inspired passion as in the beginning. His training has led him far and wide, through a dozen countries and across the disciplines of spinning, dance, juggling, music, yoga, circus, martial arts, and acrobatics. Zan's specialty is dazzling fire performances, though he thrives on the challenge of a unique performance for each event, be it day or night. Whatever the occasion, Zan delivers pure entertainment with unforgettable class, style, and grace.
Known for his expertise in the theory and technique of poi and staff spinning, Zan has given workshops around the U.S. and abroad.

Also, coming March 7, in Tempe, AZ at the Mystic Jewell: A 2 hour poi workshop with Alien Jon and Tricia.

I dont need living quarters. I have my own home already but it is teeny so I have outgrown my daytime workspace (office) and nighttime design space (garments, costumes, jewelry). I also need a space for dance practices.

Ideal space would have one room around 20x20 feet in size or 15 x 25 or somewhere in the range. It needs at least one large, unbroken wall for wall mirrors. Raw or hard floors are best due to traffic from customers who come for consultations and fittings. It needs a bathroom (toilet, but shower/bath not needed) and its own entrance from the street. Parking should be able to accommodate a few cars in the event of group fittings/ small group dance practices. Weekday times are usually quiet, but evenings & weekend days I have more traffic of those needing fittings, design consult, dance practices, etc... thus, more noise.
That said, a private space, unattached to a residence is ideal. I am also a dancer and would utilize the space a couple of times per week for dance rehearsals. It doesnt have to be pretty. As long as it is big, clean, safe, and CHEAP it'll work fine. Office space, a studio, whatever. Anywhere b/t 7 ave and 68th st and b/t Camelback & Broadway is perfect.

Hey just wanted to intorduce myself to this tribe and say hello! :P I'll be back in Az for the Renaissance Fest. pretty quick(about a week or so), and am interested in getting together with any people who dance, play with fire, jam out, just about anything! I'll be staying in Apache Junction, and I wanted to send an open invite to anyone who would want to hang out. My cousin's have a sweet place there with lots of room to play, or perhaps there are already some get-togethers going on like this that someone could give me a head's up on? I just know there are lots of freaks hiding out there in the desert!! :)
much love and all that

Who have sung around a campfire in the woods up past copper basin, had great nights at coyote joes, maybe caught some major lingo shows...

Hey guys, I started a tribe for Az musicians and bands to exchange ideas, seek other musicians, etc. I'm having some trouble finding people to invite though (which is part of the reason I created the tribe in the first place). So I'd like to invite anyone who's interested. Thanks! Here's the link:

I've started an new 'tribe" -( im also new to the site so any suggestions..hints etc.. would be appreciated)
its called ARIZONAWINELOVERS... Anyone intersted?
Over the last decade, I have developed a strong passion/obsession for the whole wine making process .. (resulting in having started a vineyard or three in Arizona..)
I would love to have others to geek out with : about grapes..vintages... regions..favorites...learn teach etc.
I'm not particular about expertise- or location even... dont have to be az based... more just love of the vino...or an interest in learning more about it..
Anyway.. hope there are a few out there that'll join me

Hi,

My path has called me to Arizona.

I will be passing through; Quartzite, Phoenix, Tucson, Sedona, and possibly Falgstaff.
If anyone has a few spare hours to show a stranger thier town, and make a new friend , I would surely appreciate it.

I will also have a few available appointments for shamanic healings, Soul Retrievals, or space clearings.
If you are interested, please drop me a line.

Thanks!

As for permaculture, and fire performers that is a personal indulgence for myself, but when actually trying to fill this thread, I'm mostly interested in what is worth promoting in Arizona and your community. I've been an active burner for going on 5 years and reaching out to the tribe network to see where I fall. I'd like to know whats going on in the alternative world of building and sustainable practices. But also if anyone knows of any spin jams, or if anyone knows of any burner events, folks.

Dear Friends,

The Esoteric Teaching podcast, Your Perfect Body, is now live on Apple iTunes in the Religion & Philosophy section. Or you can subscribe to our feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/yourperfectbody

These days we are doing a series on Sri Isopanisad. You can see a mirror on our blog at http://theperfectionofyoga.org

The Esoteric Teaching is a modern mystery school of the philosophia perennis, the eternal spiritual principles and transcendental ontology informing and underlying all spiritual cultures, paths and religions. The Esoteric Teaching presents these truths in their original, pure and complete form, free from the cultural biases and religious dogma that filter information and cloud understanding. Thus it gives everyone, regardless of background or inclination, access to the profound benefits of authentic spiritual life and enlightenment.

love,
Baba

Seva-kunj Ashram

Dear Friends,

I am extremely pleased to announce the dedication of Seva-kunj Ashram, a spiritual retreat center of the Sadgosai Society in the southeastern Arizona desert. Located in the rural Gila River Valley near beautiful Mount Graham, it offers serious spiritual seekers a place to retire from the complexities of daily life and go deep into chanting and sadhana. Please see http://sadgosai.org.

Seva-kunj is the place in Vrndavana in the spiritual world, where Krsna meets Srimati Radharana and the gopis for Their nightly ecstatic love-play, such as the Rasa Dance. Similarly, Seva-kunj Ashram is a place for meeting Krsna and service to Him and His devotees.

Life here is austere, simple and pure. We rise early in the morning and go for a long japa meditation walk as the sun rises. Two miles from the ashram is a peaceful wildlife reserve with trails and a lovely swimming lake. You can see the Mt. Graham wildlife area in the background of the pictures on our site.

All arrangements are negotiable for sincere devotees from any sanga who want to go deep into chanting and perfect their spiritual life in an austere environment. Guests are invited for retreats on a space-available basis. Accommodations are very simple, Rainbow-style camping and desert trailers. To arrange a visit or retreat email me or call 928 485-9300 and leave a message.

I am getting a lot of writing done in the peace of the desert. You can follow my daily blog posts at http://theperfectionofyoga.org, or check out the lively community discussion on the Esoteric Teaching forum at http://esotericteaching.org/forum.

Also, please don't forget our interesting CDs and DVDs that offer perspectives on spiritual life from the ancient Esoteric Teaching: http://esotericteaching.org/store. Thank you very much for your valuable time and attention.

If you missed the first show you won't want to miss this one. The Wing plays many of the most popular songs from the late 60's. Tom Tuerff opens with folk songs by Bob Dylan, Donovan, The Beatles and some of his own material building the mood for the night. The first set by the Wing is dedicated to Rock and Roll with music by The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Kinks, The Troggs, Janis Joplin and The Who while the second set favors the more psychedelic music of The Doors, The Yardbyrds, Cream and The Jefferson Airplane. The Wing also plays some of the first garage punk music by The Music Machine. And as a tribute to the late Arthur Lee they will do My Little Red Book by Love. So don your tie dyes, bell bottoms, mini skirts and other hippy garb and join us for the Violet Wing experience. The lovely and unforgettable Violet Wing Go Go Dancers will be dancing to both of the Wing's sets.

Hi all,
My name is Sam and I recently started a new Tribe for LMT's in Arizona called (aptly enough) Arizona Therapeutic Massage. It is a tribe for anyone in the state of Arizona who has completed or is in the process of completing state licensure for Therapeutic Massage. A safe place to network or chat about massage related topics, events, or ideas. This tribe is only for those who are interested in legitimate Therapeutic Massage and there is a no tolerance policy for sexually charged, or motivated posting.
Please state in the application request what step in the process you are in.

allow me for a moment to hop up on this here soap box an preach to ya'll canine owners for a spell.
when you walk your dog(s) in lets say May, June, July, Aug, Sept in arizona, how come you dont walk them in your bare feet?

um yeah...the pavement can reach temps of 100 to 120 and blacktop is even hotter.
just from my own experience; a petsitter took my dog out for a run one summer. my dogs paws (bloody, raw, burned, pink) took several weeks to heal and he was in a lot of pain.
another example-a friend was in an auto accident in which her vehicle rolled and the scared dog jumped out of the window, in summer, out onto the blacktop. this dog had to have all paws bandaged for months as well as be administered meds and antibiotics.

soooo, if i see you darling daytime dog walkers, i dont hesitate to inform you kindly "your dog's paws are burning."
if you ignore me or get irate with me about my kind advice, i happen to know of a certain sherriff joe and a posse who love to bust folks for animal cruelty. yes, i am that much of an animal rights person that i will make that call.
please consider how hot the pavment is for them. yes, they have pads but so do we. so try it barefoot sometime. i dare ya.

Lake Powell Advice

Hello.. I am taking a boating trip to Lake Powell in a week and have done quite a bit of research and planning. There are nearly 100 canyons and several things to see in each canyon... quite overwhelming!

I would love to get some tips on great spots or canyons to see. We'd probably want to avoid the super busy places like Rainbow Arch, but aside from that we are looking for fun areas to hike, beach bum, camp and explore. We depart from Wahweap so western areas are easier for us to get to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Local Tucson figure Tina Maciell is facing daunting medical expenses for a chronic illness, so we're throwing a benefit to help her out! Right now, we're looking for people who might want to perform at it. Join us and pitch in for Tina!

The benefit will be held on the night of Friday, May 19th at The Space, 111 E. Congress St. It will start as a Cabaret show, and then turn into a party with live bands as the evening gets late and people want to dance. If you want to help out by contributing a performance, please contact us at iperform4tna@hotmail.com.

Auditions will be held for the Cabaret acts on the afternoon of Sunday, May 7th; they could include dance, small acoustic sets, striptease, stand-up comedy, juggling, and other varieties of performance. We will try to be accomodating if you can't make the audition date, or are a large group, and so on, especially if you're an act we're familiar with, so do please contact us.

Bands for the party will be booked separately, but can also send information to iperform4tna@hotmail.com, which will be passed on.

Anyone with questions can contact us by e-mail or at 617-921-4414. Please pass this on to anyone you feel might be interested.

Tina has a rare severe form Endometriosis, as a result of which she has undergone multiple surgeries and other treatments that have left her with overwhelming medical debt. She is about to undergo experimental treatment as part of a national study on reducing the debilitating pain associated with severe Endometriosis. 100% of the proceeds for the benefit will be given directly to Tina to go toward her medical costs.

Looking for new sushi places, any ideas? Currently I go to Asashi? on Gilbert. I have heard of a place on Power Rd that is supposed to be good. Calling all sushi lovers. When it comes to sushi, I am still pretty whitebread. Rainbow rolls, squid salad, freshwater eels, oysters, very basic.

Hey there, "Arizona" members--

This Tribe doesn't have an active moderator, but as a matter of policy, Tribe.net likes all groups to have a leader.

Can you collectively choose someone to moderate your Tribe?

When you've reached consensus, have the new moderator send a note to help@tribe.net, with the words "Moderator Change – the name of the tribe" in the subject header, letting us know that you've selected a new leader. Please be sure to include a link to this discussion thread!

Thanks--

Just to see who lives in the mid eastern Az. I am in St.Johns looking for more people who share in living off the grid.
I love living out here close to NM where I get to see the sunrise over the NM mt's everyday and just the quite of not being in the cities. I love the setting up of a place where we can hold drummings & dancing by the fire pit. Where I can share all that Mother Earth has to share with others.
I am bless to have 82 acres to live on and share, see my tribe.
Have a Great day

Tuesday, January 17 at 8:00 PM
Mogollon Brewing Company (16 N. Agassiz, Flagstaff)
www.mogbrew.com (928) 773-8950

The legendary Vince Herman, front man of Leftover Salmon is on the road spreading his good time pickin’ and foot stompin’ sounds, accompanied by a couple of his favorite multi-talented musicians, Randy Crouch and Cliff Starbuck. Running through February 2006, the show is a surefire event for string band, bluegrass, new-grass, jam, folk and music lovers of all genres nationwide.

Randy Crouch, often referred to as the “World's Greatest Rock and Roll Fiddle Player”, is a ground breaker on the Red Dirt music scene. Best known for his incredible fiddle playing, Randy also plays guitar, pedal steel, piano, and a mean slide mandolin. As if his exceptional musicianship isn't enough, Randy is also a talented singer and gifted songwriter.

Cliff Starbuck, a founding member of Ekoostik Hookah, plays banjo, bass and guitar. Aside from performing with Hookah, he keeps company with New Orleans influenced R&B quartet “Chief Johnny Lonesome” and a country blues jug band called “Starbuck, Chern and the Trillionaires”.

The Vince Herman Trio combines Cajun Americana with a hysterical mix of improvised lyrics and original tunes. Their lively performances are sure to evoke energy, laughter, merriment and spirit at every stop along the way.

Vince, Randy and Cliff have all performed with the country's most renowned musicians, and this run of inspired jams will be the winter touring highlight!

bloody friday

BLOODY FRIDAY
OK YOU HEARD AUGUST'S FIRST FRIDAY WAS GOING TO BE A FRIENDLY "EDUCATIONAL" DRIVE BY POLICE - NONE OF US KNEW IT WAS REALLY A PREEMPTIVE STRIKE, "With a multi-tiered and multi-jurisdictional initiative to eliminate the use of our buildings as art spaces." (Roosevelt Row e-notice)

TV, Radio, AP wire service, even on the cover of the Arizona Republic gave heads-up the Thursday before. re:Phoenix Police will "educate" Artlink's Aug 5 First Friday's patrons and visitors (no parking, under-age drinking, vendors blocking sidewalk, pedistrian traffic safety (Artlink's First Friday attracts between 10,000 to 15,000 artwalker's visiting over 80 art spaces, spread out between Roosevelt Row's 7th Street to Grandevelt's 15th Avenue, Grand Avenue from 7th to 16th Ave.

We were expecting to have a pleasant follow-up meeting with police, to discuss the results from Aug 5 First Friday police "educational" drive-by's and together we were looking at working together to develop a long-range strategy for a successful outcome of downtown's "Strategic Vision": we were told, police "don't want to kill First Friday, it's a needed component for downtown vitality."

THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW!
OK we're responsible citizens, creative business types, and family-friendly folks - we are downtown, we live and breath downtown, we have staked our livelihoods on our entrepreneurial vision to evolve a livelihood from our creative passions... we've already paid our dues with years of sweat blood and tears. So why can't we stay on the same page, evolved and recorded by Council approved "DOWNTOWN PHOENIX: A STRATEGIC VISION AND BLUEPRINT FOR THE FUTURE (12/14/04)

What shock and awe we experienced Bloody First Friday: we witnessed Downtown Art Galleries assaulted by police-escorted multiple-agency types, each with educational brochures, citation books and notepads, AND BADGES.

The Following are excerpts from Roosevelt Row Gallery Owner, Greg Esser's Sunday Aug 7th e-notice:
On Thursday, August 4, 2005 the police held a press event and stated that their purpose and intent was to monitor underage drinking, open container violations and parking issues related to the event. This was essentially the message that was reported in the local media. The enforcement effort that the City of Phoenix actually launched and that is currently underway is in fact far broader.

Various inspectors and enforcement officials from the City of Phoenix and Maricopa County entered our business regularly throughout the evening each accompanied by armed police officers.

The inspections we received through the course of the evening included:
The Fire Marshall in plain clothes
Maricopa County Health Inspectors (food)
Zoning Enforcement officials (occupancy regulations)
Tax Enforcement officials (privilege and sales tax)
Neighborhood Services (blight violations, various City of Phoenix code violations)

There were others who would not disclose their affiliation when asked directly.

Further, we were officially notified by a City of Phoenix citations investigator from the Development Services Department on Thursday, August 4, 2005 that our use of our building as an art gallery is illegal. Despite the fact that our building has been used as an art gallery for more than thirty years as evidenced by documents submitted to the City of Phoenix, the citations investigator has arbitrarily stated that our continuing use of the building as a gallery is a “change of use.” The “change of use” requires a new Certificate of Occupancy. In order to obtain a new Certificate of Occupancy, a building must meet current city building code which is not possible for our structure given the historic nature of its construction and the size of our lot. Our situation is typical of many of the art studios and venues downtown now being targeted for code enforcement by the City of Phoenix.

The “change of use” citations are a new and questionable tactic being used by the City of Phoenix as part of a multi-tiered and multi-jurisdictional initiative to eliminate the use of our buildings as art spaces.

If you are a registered voter in any of these districts, please let your elected representative know now that this is an important issue that affects not only the arts in downtown but the health and vibrancy of our state’s capitol.

If you know a bureaucrat or manager within the city - or a news reporter - please...Talk To Them; seek out information... who's initiating this crack-down? is there a bigger developer behind this? (call Greg at 515 Gallery, or your Artlink Representative, or reply to this e-mail your interest to help resolve this crisis).

This incredibly blunderous shake-up shatters our confidence in the "comprehensive consensus building" touted by Mayor Gordon our 21st Century 6th largest city, with 2004's Council Approved, "DOWNTOWN PHOENIX: A STRATEGIC VISION AND BLUEPRINT FOR THE FUTURE..." a vision that looks pretty hallow right now. Perhaps we should reconsider our support for next Fall's Bond Election... Remember the Stadium we stopped?

We will continue to provide you with updates and let you know what you can do to help us through this plight and protect the flourishing arts in downtown against this government intrusion and attack.

Concerted & Concerned

Kim Moody
Alwun House Foundation
building a stronger community through the arts

Purple, Italic Text above, was extracted from yesterday's e-mail notice from Greg Esser, 515 Gallery owner, Roosevelt Row association.

Can you smoke in public places (incl restaurants) in Arizona?

I was hoping someone could help me and tell me about smoking restrictions in Arizona (or particularly phx and flagstaff). Im thinking of visiting the state and have bad asthma that is irritated by cigarette smoke.

Thanks
