Just noticed that the site for Sioux's new album is live: www.siouxsiemantaray.com. Not much too it yet - just a spot to give your email address for updates, but the artwork looks cool and buggy...
I can't WAIT for this album! US release is September 18.

Sat, July 7, 2007 - 5:07 PMOh, Tomas, you tease!! We need details!! What did it sound like? Can you give us a song as a comparable reference? What was she wearing in the video? What are you wearing? I see.... Why don't you take off those burdensome clothes and tell us everything you remember about the song/video? -

Re: Mantaray
Sat, July 7, 2007 - 6:26 PMThe big effect was lots of mirror images, either the screen split in half down the middle or in quarters. Siouxsie looked HOT as usual.
I was a little put off that she ended the main chorus with the word "Transformed". Made me wonder if the song is in the new Transformers movie.
Think Anima/Animus era Creatures, but guitar-heavy. -

Re: Mantaray
Sat, July 7, 2007 - 6:27 PMAfter some online hunting, I found another copy on YouTube. It doesn't mention Siouxsie anywhere in the description, so hopefully it will be hard for the lawyers to find.

Re: Mantaray
Sat, July 7, 2007 - 7:24 PMThanks for the link!! I assume it's called "Janet" for Siouxsie's real name? L-o-v-e the ankle grab at 1:22. She looks amazing.
It's a good song, but it's going to take some more listens to get into the "new sound" more. I definitely like it, but to be honest I can't help but think it's kind of the wrong direction. "'80s artists" that try to remain relevant in the 2000's usually fall flat, mainly because they try to appeal to "kids" today instead of staying true to their sound. Numan traded in his synths for guitars and has been releasing the same album over and over since Exile, and while I am still a fan, he's basically devolved into a poor-man's NIN. The Go-Go's comeback album flopped because instead of sticking to their spunky new-pop sound they tried to appeal to "kids" today by leading off a good album with "Unforgiven" that was an attempt to grab the ear of the Green Day market. Granted Armstrong from Green Day cowrote the song, but it was still a disappointment to longtime Go-Go's fans. cc: Duran Duran
Fortunately it's not on the Transformers soundtrack. {fourfour's review of the Transformers movie: "Imagine two Humvees in a head-on collision, backing up and colliding again. For two and a half hours."}
I'm going to watch it a few more times. Wheee!! Thanks again for the link. -

Re: Mantaray
Sun, July 8, 2007 - 10:56 PMShe's never stopped making music though so it's all one big progresssion. 80's artist isn't really fair since its been 30 years of music that she's made. -

Re: Mantaray
Sun, July 8, 2007 - 11:17 PMNuman never really stopped. And neither did Duran Duran and look what's happened to them. I just think there's a curse on artists who were big in the '80s to live up to the "good old days." -

Re: Mantaray
Sun, July 8, 2007 - 11:26 PMOr Depeche Mode. I'm not dissing the new sound, I'm just saying there is the old fan base to please and it seems like a lot of artists don't take that into account and try to instead make something relevant to today's 18-28 market. At least Siouxsie's not having Justin Timberlake produce the new album (a la Duran Duran -- to disastrous effect, the new songs are whorrible) or "Into a Swan" doesn't sound like Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend".... -

Re: Mantaray
Mon, July 9, 2007 - 12:06 PMNo, it sounds awesome. And, of course, she always looks flawlesss. Depech Mode's last album was really good and it sounded just like a Depech Mode album. I def agree that a lot of artist should just stop already but I don't think Siouxsie is one. She's always transformed and experimented with new sounds but always staying true to her own style.

Mon, July 9, 2007 - 12:08 PMThat's funny. I mean an ugly duckling transforms into a swan, isn't that the jist of the song. She's re-born, phoenix from the flames and now better than ever!!!!
See, maybe divorce was, ultimately, a good thing for her. -

Re: Mantaray
Mon, July 9, 2007 - 7:20 PMI don't think anyone should stop making music (as long as someone is still willing to listen), I guess my point is anything new is going to be a disappointment. We like the artists we like from their glory days in the '80s. Prince. Madonna. Duran Duran. Depeche Mode. The Cure. Pet Shop Boys. Gary Numan. Blondie. (Post-Smiths) Morrissey. None of these artists have made anything as good as they did in the '80s. The only artist I could think of that put out an album post 1991 that was as good (or better) than anything they did in the '80s was the Creatures. There are certain reasons I was obsessed with S&TB in the '80s and I think nostalgism is too strong for people to get over. "Into a Swan" is a good song, but I just hope the sound isn't indicative of the entire album. -

Re: Mantaray
Mon, July 9, 2007 - 11:31 PMWell, I think every artist has their moment when they hit their stride. Most musicians that last have a string of 4 or 5 or even 10 (Bowie, Siouxsie, Rolling Stones, Cure, Beatles...) albums that are amazing, when they hit their peak. I don't agree that anything new is a disappointment though. Morrisey's last 2 albums are complete genius and, as I've said before, Siouxsie has never let me down. The new video is gorgeous and I love how rock the song is! The Pet Shop Boys are also still so amazing, their show a few weeks back was incredible. Disappoinment comes from expecting things to not change, ya know?

Re: Mantaray
Thu, August 9, 2007 - 11:35 AMI got a copy of the entire new CD and it's AMAZING!!!! I'm a little biased because I love everything that she does but it is really good!. A few songs sound like Into A Swan with heavy guitars and then others have horns and, of course, great percussion!! There's a song that I love called Here Comes The Day that's very reminiscent of Right Now! which I love love love.
There's definetely a few songs about Budgie/break-ups that are pretty emotional - one kind of sad and another that's about transending the pain and growing from it.
You're gonna love it people!!! -

Re: Mantaray/ the ultimate break-up song!!!!!!!!!!!
Sun, August 12, 2007 - 12:04 AMLOVELESS
Like a panther on the prowl
hear me purr, hear me growl
I was fearles, fearless
I wear my slinky boots
I wear that kooky mood
and they seem to fit less
What am I gonna do?
How do I face the turth the truth?
Loveless, loveless
What am I gonna do,
now that I know the truth?
It''s loveless, loveless
I know what's good for me
I know what's bad for me
all that sweetness covered falseness
It's a sick and twisted game
to and fro and back again
could I see it, did I hear it?
Maybe I should've loved less
maybe I should trust less
I don't love this, love miss
What am I gonna do,
now that I know the truth?
Loveless, loveless
I remember everything
I can still recall the pain
I was left there for dead
I can't play this game again
to and fro and back again
it's senseless, I'm doubtless
What am I gonna do?
How could you be so cruel?
Loveless, loveless
What am I gonna do?
How do I face the truth?
It's loveless, loveless
What am I gonna do,
now that I know the truth?
What am I gonna do?
How could you be so cruel?
(I think it's my favorite new song!!!!)

Thu, August 30, 2007 - 6:58 PMIndie 103.1 has been playing several songs from Mantary on Big Sonic Heaven which is Monday - Friday 10pm -12am. It's a great fucking show in general. Last night I tuned in as he was playing "Here Comes The Day" which is one of my fav new Siouxsie songs - very reminiscent of "Right Now", kinda Creatures-esque but all Siouxsie Sioux for sure.
I don't know who is doing percussion on the new album but dar I say that she found a more than adequate replacement for Budgie. There are some amazing percusssion moments on the new CD. -

Re: Mantaray
Thu, September 6, 2007 - 9:50 PMI got the two 7"s and the CD single for "Into a Swan" today. I like it better now that I'm hearing it for real and not through the video on youtubes, but I like "Swansway" so much better. "Swansway" is "Into a Swan" slowed down and without all the guitars. I would've been happier with "Swansway" as the lead version. There's also a "Reprise" version, which is basically the dub. I'm trying to think of something to mash it up with.... -

Re: Mantaray
Fri, September 7, 2007 - 9:00 PMyeah, i can't decide if i'm gonna buy the single or not. swansway sounds fun though, but i really dislike into a swan. that bon jovi guitar solo in the middle makes me gag! -

Re: Mantaray
Sun, September 9, 2007 - 10:10 PMthe bongos are fine, very creature-ish, i just don't like the song, for some reason. there doesn't seem to be anything underneath the surface worth caring about.
as for the album, i've really taken to the last four songs, especially heaven and alchemy. i kind of like her exposing so much of herself, this time around. it's not what anyone was expecting, which is, honestly, all i wanted her to do on this album, surprise us.
drone zone kind of reminds me of cocoon, fun fun fun!!!!!!!!! as for the rest, it's gonna take some getting used to, but i still love the bitch!!!! -

Re: Mantaray
Mon, September 10, 2007 - 4:38 PMI love the whole thing alot. It sounds like the Banshees, it sounds like The Creatures but, mostly, it sounds all Siouxsie Sioux!!! I think the 1st 4 songs are off the charts; Here Comes That Day is so reminiscent of Right Now, Loveless is the best break-up song ever - and then #5 is the antidote to #4.
Heaven and Alchemy and the song with the title track Sea of Tranquility are so beautiful. They Follow You is super catchy too.
Once again, the lyrics are fanatastic and Robert Plant's band (or whichever Zeppelin guy they are from) is awesome. Oh, and the production is fanatastic.
I even like that her high range is mostly gone and she has that smokey, cabaret voice of a distinguished woman. -

Wed, September 12, 2007 - 7:25 PMwell friends
I have heard it and i LOVE it!!!
Heaven and Alchemy touched me deeply on MANY levels....this is a great album...even though I am not a big fan of siouxsie and guitars...the lyrics and voice are prime...plus it is not ALL guitar laden....I love this queen more and more...she takes me deeper
