What is the source?
Could be a recording of something like a Howler Monkey, but not sure about the whistle part. -

The claim is that the vocalization in question was recorded in the High Sierras in 1972. The one featured on the internet is not the entire recording, but a pieced together version of several different things heard (recorded) that night. I have heard the full version before, on the Sierra Sounds CD, and it is much more interesting than the one featured here and elsewhere.
