Hi, I'm seeking like minds.

I grew up designing and making my own clothes since a little girl, and apprenticed with Mirage in Melbourne, Australia’s largest CMT house for major Oz designers; before studying fine art at Heatherleys in London. I was also sponsored by Mirage and a runner-up in the Australian Fashion Awards. Then I traveled and lived in a few different countries and got into planet activism and events, then running an online arts community, then helping manage festivals. Now current fashion has caught up with the designs in my head and the ideals in my heart and I recently returned to designing eco-friendly wearable art.

The stuff I’m now designing and reconstructing are Eco Couture, individual one-off’s made from recycled and vintage fabrics. My design skills are coming back and improving with each collection batch. Sketches and photos of recent experiments are up at http://www.recycledfordancing.com plus I already have clothes in 2 boutiques, addresses are on the site under Retail Stores.

I also do custom stage gear; before working on festivals full time I actually did costumes for Music TV dancers, musicians, and theatre. I had a few designs on national TV way back when, on long running music TV show called Countdown. And I designed costumes for a whole Bertolt Brecht play at the Chelsea Playhouse in London, plus whole wardrobes for nightclub dancers and contemporary cabaret, and fire dancers for festivals in Byron Bay.

My current designs are inspired by San Francisco and Japanese street fashion, as well as European Couture and Burning Man. For me it is sculpture using textiles with a wearable framework and chaos, I take something that I see and mix it with something else that I see, each piece inspiring the next piece. Anyway take a peek at http://www.recycledfordancing.com for art’s sake, and keep me in mind when you are thinking of new additions to your wardrobe or recycling your wardrobe.

Thank you for being here.

garbage compactors are bad. they're popping up everywhere and you know thats where all the really cool stuff is going. i don't know if anyone is in for a little criminal activity, but those things need to be destroyed by any means possible. so far as i've seen, their only weak points are the hydraulic lines, and for the ones that have them, the keyholes, cut hydraulic lines, jam keyholes, believe me its for the good of the people.

Located at 2034 NE Couch (Portland Oregon) is a blue dumpster full of new and nearly new stuff. Some American asshole came out to chew me out for trying to reduce his garbage. Granted he thought I was pulling everything out, but I was just trying to pull a piece of wood up to write free stuff on it. He felt I was putting him out by rearranging his garbage because he has a bunch more to put in there. Uhh I think if people take 10% of the stuff that is still good, won't there be 10% more space to throw the 'real' garbage out? There is new primed lumber with price tags, hats, christmas stuff, rolls of fabric(never been used). . . .What the hell is wrong with peeps? How much energy went into making this stuff? Now it will go in the ground. WTF
Come help this poor sap. Please keep everything tidy, don't make a mess.

Looking for an Earth Friendly community style living solution?

There is a Meeting of the Kindred Spirits coming up March 29th! And
we do need to see some more Positive well integrated Female Energy in
this group who can work closely with others.

http://edenvillage.net/18.htm

We are still looking to organize a group of volunteers to
help out some good folks one day out of the week, with some
organic gardening and we still do need someone to take Minutes
at the next meeting.

It would be possible, I would think, if there is a single female or
two out there who is cool about living closer to the Earth then
I may be able to provide a place for you to live, for
maybe 6 months out of the year up where I live in Northern
California.

If you can simply come to our next meeting on March 29th. - T

**************************************************

Greetings to all my relations.

This is the last step of our project History Watch. If History is
defined and known by the texts, we can now add to this definition the
recorded events of the filmed archives. Animated images are harder to
deny than printed words. Our objective is to spread out freely some of
the little broadcast, even hidden informations about our collective
History.

We put online a collection of 391 documentaries and other selected and
recut videos, to offer to a wide public the best of the infos
available on the net in english and in french. If you are interested,
you have the time, the right equipment and connection, all you have to
do is open the joint document and decompress it if needed (but normaly
your system should do it automaticaly). You'll find therein nine links
that will open the torrents for the nine DVDs we compiled (around 4.6
Gig each, for a total of a little over 41 G, being over 100 hours of
videos).

Otherwise, you can go directly to btjunkie.com and search for these titles.

Torrents are a system of peer to peer data transfer. The more people
download a torrent, the faster it spreads and the longer it stays on
the net. If you don't have a bittorrent software, we suggest that you
download uTorrent on utorrent.com. If you want to participate in
facilitating the diffusion of these infos about our collective
History, download these torrents on as many computers as possible,
whether it is in cybercafes. It takes one or two minutes to open up
the links and the downloading will keep proceeding on its own.

Please spread this out, take part in this action for social education
on a planetary scale. Thanks.

I live in the beach area of San Diego. My dumpster diving has been rather random... salvaging items of worth in my local vicinity that are just thrown away. Now I am seeking something more specific and I hoped I could gather some tips and advice.

I am trying to refurbish two laptops, one requiring a monitor. Local recycle shops do not allow access to these items, even to purchase so this is not an option. To purchase a new monitor screen is not worth it...

So any ideas as to where one could go to salvage these items?

Call For Makers!

Dear Makers,

We are pleased to announce Bay Area Maker Faire 2007!

Organized by the staff of MAKE and CRAFT magazines, Maker Faire is a newfangled fair that brings together science, art, craft an engineering in a fun, energized, and exciting public forum. The aim is to inspire people of all ages to roll up their sleeves and become makers. This family-friendly event showcases the amazing work of all kinds of makers--anyone who is embracing DIY and wants to share their accomplishments with an appreciative audience. Last year, we had 20,000 people at Maker Faire.

Maker Faire Bay Area will take place May 19-20, 2007 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. We are also adding Maker Faire Austin for October 20-21, 2007 at the Travis County Fairgrounds. This call is primarily for Maker Faire Bay Area but you can indicate if you are interested in participating in Maker Faire Austin.

We encourage you to join the fun and propose a maker exhibit, performance or workshop. You can submit a proposal through the web using the link described below or you can come show us your work at a Maker Faire "audition" on Saturday, February 24 at TechShop in Menlo Park, CA.

http://www.makerfaire.com

Proposals: We invite proposals for Maker workbench exhibits, workshops, presentations and performances for the Maker Faire. We are interested in proposals from individuals as well as from groups such as hobbyist clubs and schools.

Maker Workbench: Our standard setup for Makers is a six-foot long workbench. You can use this workbench to display your work and/or demonstrate how you make something. Some makers don't need workbenches, typically because they have a large object or they set up outside. Please provide a short description of what you make and what you will bring to Maker Faire. Please link to photographs or videos of what you make. Let us know about any requirements you have, such as electricity, Internet, ventilation, etc.

Interactive Performance: We're seeking performances that will engage and entertain the attendees and enable them to interact in a fun way. The performances may be tied to a stage or roving through the fairgrounds as a kind of street theatre. Performances could be musical or theatrical, but they could also be a collaborative building process. For example, you might work with attendees to put something large together in an hour.

Hey All

Moving to Seattle this week. I'm wondering how things are there. I'll need to hook up with most household items & furniture. How's the University District for good finds? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

hi :)

i'm throwing an event next friday at Infinite Kaos in SF celebrating my new cd Gravity - i'm hoping to have flowers in the decor but am working with a modest budget - anyone have any tips on getting flowers that have been or will be thrown away and could get some good use for one night before flopping?

any suggestions or connections would be most welcome!

many thanks,

I'm starting a nomadic tribe, intended to both demonstrate alternatives to mainstream society and promote the widespread sharing of information on tribalism, biocentric ideas, and the threat of society. I'm looking for good people interested in a somewhat minimalist tribe to travel nationaly or globaly, supporting each other through non-mainstream paths like art and music, and working to spread some of the messages that a modern destructive society needs so desperately to hear. I'd like to create a truly tribal experience, and I think that there's a lot of fun to be had and good things to be accomplished. Knowledge of tribalism, life sciences, and social problems a plus, but not neccesary, there's plenty for all of us to learn. Knowledge of tribalism, life sciences, and social problems a plus, but not neccesary, there's plenty for all of us to learn. No hard drugs, alchoholism, sexism, racism, or negative lifestyles/behaviors please.

Like to explore a new path together? I'd love to hear from you.
TVs free to dump at Berkely

so for now, you cna bring TVs to Berekely dump for free, and they then break out the lead and recycle the units.
prices have gone way up to get rid of tvs, and it is not legal to throw them in regular trash anymore (since 2001)

berkely used to charge $26, san leandor charges $32, Altamont a whopping $60!

Berekely got a state grant to take them, if you have an old dead Tv, you should bring it to berekely dump so it get s taken care of correctly
and doesnt cost an arm and a leg.
