how to survive a horror film

From http://www.sliceofscifi.com/2007/02/12/wisdom-from-boris-how-to-survive-a-horror-movie/

When it appears you have killed the monster, NEVER check to see if it's really dead.

Never read a book of demon summoning aloud, even as a joke.

Do not go search for something in the basement, especially if the power has just gone out.

If your children speak to you in Latin or any other language which they should not speak, or if they speak to you using a voice which is not their own, shoot them immediately. It will save you the grief in the long run. *NOTE* It will probably take several rounds to kill them, so be prepared.

When you have the benefit of numbers, NEVER pair off or go alone.

As a general rule, don't solve puzzles that open portals to Hell.

Never stand in, on, above, below, beside or anywhere near a grave, tomb, crypt, mausoleum or any other house of the dead.

If you are searching for something which caused a loud noise and you find out it's just the cat, leave the room immediatey if you value your life.

If appliances start operating by themselves, move out.

Do not take *anything* from the dead.

If you find a town which looks deserted, it's probably for a good reason. Take the hint and stay away.

Don't fool around with recombinant DNA technology unless you're sure you know what you are doing.

If you're running away from the monster, expect to trip or fall down at least twice, more if you are of the female persuasion. Also note that despite the fact that you are running and the monster is merely shambling along, it's still moving fast enough to catch up with you.

If your companions suddenly begin to exhibit uncharacteristic behavior such as hissing, developing a fascination with blood, glowing eyes, foaming at the mouth and increasing hairiness, get away from them as fast as possible.

Stay away from certain geographical locations. Such as: Amityville, Elm Street, Transylvania, Nilbog, the Bermuda Triangle or any small town in Maine.

If your car runs out of gas late at night, don't go to the nearby deserted looking house to call for help. Likewise if your car has broken down, and the only refuge for miles is that creepy old mansion/castle on the hill. Stay in the car.

Beware of strangers bearing tools such as chainsaws, staple guns, hedge trimmers, electric carving knives, lawnmowers, butane torches, smoldering irons, band saws or any device made from deceased companions.

Listen closely to the soundtrack and pay attention to the audience. They are usually far more intelligent than you could ever hope to be.

Never listen to music that contains staccato shrieking violins.

If you are a woman, never strip and take a shower in slow motion.

Do not keep all your sharpened kitchen knives in one of those wooden block thingies on your worksurface.

The first woman to either lose or remove her clothing is dead meat.

The guy with the testosterone overdose is also dead meat.

Along with the guy that is always making jokes

When you are searching a house because you think there is something dangerous there, turn on the damn lights!

Never back out of one room into another without looking. It's always behind you.

If you are traveling with friends, never let any hitch hikers into the van with you. It'll be the worst (if not the last) day of your life.

Never babysit. There are enough babysitter-in-danger-thanks-to-a-stupid-killer flicks out there already.

If you ARE stupid enough to babysit, never try on the mom's nightgown collection. You'll only end up showing more skin. Remember: Skin=Death.

If you are being chased, never lean against the wall when you think you lost him. He'll just pop through and kill you.

Same goes for leaning against the window.

If you are at your Senior prom, and the school reject has just won prom queen, slowly back away and run for the exit. All hell is about to break loose.

Always remember ― SEX=DEATH!

For Other Life Saving Tips

If you are a stoner among other stoners, be the quiet one or the lovable one. All the other stoners will be killed.

If the killer has stalked you over the phone lines, don't take a job as a phone counselor.

Never let someone hypnotize you at a party.

Stay away from sewers.

If you sense something is behind you, don't bother turning around to check. Just run.

If you are trying to escape the killer, sliding through the cat door in the electronic garage door will not help you any.

After you manage to kill the monster/killer, never sit beside it and cry. It will suddenly pop back up to finish the job.

Never go to camp or become a counselor. You'll be dead by the end of summer.

Never say "I'll be right back." You won't be back. End of story.

Don't ever do something just because someone dares you to.

If you ever visit some distant planet and find objects that look like eggs, LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!

Then when one of your spaceship's crew members finds a hideous parasite attached to his body (as a result of breaking the pervious rule), don't let him back on the ship.

When a hideous alien menace is hunting you (as a result of breaking the previous two rules) NEVER wander off alone to hunt for the ship's cat.

If someone tells you to do or not to something (example: DON'T fall asleep, DON'T go out there, DON'T go look for the homicidal-chainsaw-wielding psychopath by yourself) by all means, LISTEN TO THEM!!

A small town's little summer celebration might sound like fun. But if you hear the locals say things like, "Why you're the guest of honor! We couldn't even have the barbecue with out you!", run like hell.

If you are trapped in a house surrounded by demons, making coffee will not help anyone.

Always be nice to the shy, quiet, unpopular girl in school.

Clowns never have, nor will they ever be helpful to hang around while in a horror movie. As harmless as the might seem, they WILL kill you once you let your guard down.

Never go back for anything you lost.

Avoid people with pointy teeh.

Avoid people with lots of facial hair.

Avoid people with pale complexions who sway and moan,

If the barber remarks on the "666″ tattoo your kid has, abandon the kid and move to Irkutsk.

If you see a burly man wearing a hockey mask and toting a chainsaw, DO NOT stick around to see if he's with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Never buy your kid a toy that talks back.

Remember: Just say "NO" to human blood.

Never watch a horror movie while you're in a horror movie.

Never, under any circumstance, plan a camping trip that coincides with Friday the 13th.

Pigs blood is not now, nor has it ever been funny.

If the young girls of the neighborhood start singing songs about boogeymen while jumping rope, consider moving.

If you hit a man with a car in the middle of the night and try to roll him off of a dock, make sure that he is dead!

Never EVER play with any Ouijia board that you find in the basement of your newly bought, run-down house.

Never run into a deserted graveyard at night,

If you are running away from the killer/monster, don't even try to start the car. It doesn't matter if the car is brand new, it won't start.

If running from the monster/killer, try to make the least amount of noise possible. Especially if you are female. Panting, crying and screaming is not going to help you hide any better.

For pete's sake…NEVER stick your hand down the garbage disposal. Especially if you just heard strange noises in your house or while sinister music is playing.

Don't marry a guy that has Satan Worshippers as friends. They will want you to birth the new Anti-Christ.

Never answer the phone when you are babysititng. Just get the hell out of there and leave the kids for dead.

If you think you see your girlfriend/boyfriend and they are wearing a mask, not talking, or conspicuously hiding their face, it's not them.

Don't be mean to the new kid. They will just end up killing you.

If you hear a strange noise coming from upstairs that sounds similar to, oh let's say a severed head falling to the floor, don't go trying to find out what it is.

Never touch something that just oozed out of a comet that landed near an abandoned farm house.

When battling zombies, always sever their head or shoot them in the brain. If you they still want to eat you after that, just surrender. There's no hope for you anyway.

Never wait until you NEED the gun to check and see if it's loaded.

If you have to stay out in the woods or at camp you're pretty much screwed. But at least you'll have a fighting chance in the cabin. Never EVER take the tent.

Never try to unmask the killer.

Never hide in a closet.

If you buried your child in a strange place and he came back as a demon, DON'T bury your wife in the same place.

If you find the mangled body of a friend, camping partner, janitor, or whom ever, don't stay and investigate. Run like hell.

Don't spend a lot of time in houses decorated with an excessive amount of medivel weaponry. It will be used eventually.

Don't make a documentary that requires you to hike through the woods while looking for a witch that leaves stick figures hanging in trees.

If you are going to the bathroom in a movie theatre and you think you hear a guy and a girl making out in the stall next to you, don't put your ear closer to the wall to listen.

If you see a short guy wearing green and wearing a shamrock hat, I wouldn't stick around to ask about his pot of gold.

Never transport the killer in an ambulance from one place to another. Even if they've been in a coma for 10 years, they'll wake up.

Never listen to strange voices on the telephone.

Never say "Who's there?"

If your hand has been possesed by the Force of Evil, do NOT chop off your hand. Doing so will merely allow the disembodied hand the freedom to wreak havoc independent of your body. And now you have to spend the rest of the film trying to track it down,

If you have a feeling you'll end up being chased by zombies during the night, remember to wear comfortable running shoes.

After babysitting, don't walk down any deserted streets with lots of trees and bushes, but no lights.

If you are a girl with long blonde hair, blue eyes and big boobs, well, you are pretty much screwed.

Always check the backseat of your car before you get in.

When running away from the killer/monster, NEVER run upstairs.

If you see someone who is within screaming distance while running from the killer/monster, for the love of god, SCREAM!!

If a giant shark is chasing your family, don't go swimming. Actually, stay away from the water, period.

If you are babysitting, don't let the kids play with the Chucky doll.

If one night you see a dark haired girl carrying around dolls with the eyes scratched out, back away slowly, then run like hell.

If you go to your school library and there are a lot of books having to do with vampires and demons…move away ASAP

If you are fleeing from a killer or supernatural being and you see a cop car, run right by it. There are three possible ways that things will turn out if you try to get the cops attention and none are good:

A. The cop is already dead in some gruesome way that will cause you to scream and alert the killer/monster as to where you are.

B. The cop will probably end up dead as he tries to help you, this will only distract the killer away from you for a few seconds, but chances are you will end up getting killed anyway.

C. The supernatural being has assumed the form of a cop and just when you
think you are safe…he will kill you.

If the locals say the camp is haunted, it probably is.

If people in your neighborhood have been disapearing and there's talk about a surge of any type of insect…move. Stuborn home owners always die.

When and if you fall while running and the killer/monster is near you, don't just sit there screaming like someone will hear you. Get up and RUN!!

Kill the Scientist. No matter what else you do, kill him off right away. They always want to study "it," or take "it" back to the corporate masters, or learn from "it" at the expense of comrades lives. Eggheads are always trying to understand the unknown, and get nearly everyone killed doing it. Get a clue, kill the guy with the pocket protector, he's going to sacrifice you anyway.

If the killer if after you and you somehow manage to knock him down,
don't get up and run for help. Believe me, he will stay down much longer
after you kick him a couple times.

If the movie is directed by someone named Wes Craven or John Carpenter, you're pretty much screwed.

If the killer/monster is dead, don't dig up his grave to try to do a final resurrection. He will only come back to life.

If you disobey the previous rule, don't try cutting off his head or anything
cheap. Stick a grenade in his mouth and run for it.

If the killer is standing three feet in front of you, don't just stand there and scream while he comes running towards you. It may comes as a shock, but he DOES in fact want to kill you.

A female should never wear a white shirt without a bra while escaping the monster. It will only increase your chances of falling and causing a freak rainstorm that will make your shirt transparent and result in your immediate death.

If you live in Maine and your hometown includes a clown driving a car he calls Christine with a large ,rabid St. Bernard in the backseat, while residing in an old, haunted hotel near a strange Pet Semetary and hangs out with teenage girls with telekenetic powers….you're pretty much screwed.

If you DO happen to get killed, make sure it's in a cheap low-budget gore-fest with no plot, so you can come back and kick ass, no explanation needed.

whoah.... screening at Castro of Sacred Mountain

www.abkcofilms.com/

The Holy Mountain is being screened at the Castro!!!!

A Christlike figure wanders through bizarre, grotesque scenarios filled with religious and sacrilegious imagery. He meets a mystical guide who introduces him to six wealthy and powerful individuals, each representing a planet in the solar system. These six, along with the protagonist, the guide and the guide's assistant, divest themselves of their worldly goods and form a group of nine who will seek out the Holy Mountain, in order to displace the gods who live there and become immortal.

viewer's comments:

- Fascinating, boring, beautiful, ugly, irritating, pretentious, witty and profoundly original. 'The Holy Mountain' will blow your mind!
'El Topo' is still one of the strangest movies ever made but Alejandro Jodorowsky amazingly managed to top himself with 'The Holy Mountain'. This movie contains some of the most weird and wonderful scenes in the history of movies. It is filled with bizarre images which draw upon many religions and occult philosophies, and seems to be inspired equally by Bunuel and the comic book sci-fi surrealism of William Burroughs. It's a cliche but when I say you have to see it to believe it I'm not lying! The movie is roughly in three sections. The first documents the trials and tribulations of The Thief, a Christ figure. The second introduces The Alchemist (played by Jodorowsky himself) and his seven disciples who are each represented by a planet. The third sees all these odd people (and a chimpanzee) go on a pilgrimage to "The Holy Mountain". I found the third section to be much less interesting than the other two, and that, combined with the sensory overload of the earlier parts of the film, makes it not as successful as 'El Topo' for me. But there's no denying that this is an extraordinary movie and anyone who appreciates strange and challenging films will find this to be the strangest and most challenging of all. Jodorowsky makes David Lynch look like Michael Bay! I can't truthfully say I get 90% of what he's getting at but boy, is it a trip trying to figure it out!

- A stream of consciousness movie
The Holy Mountain is best described as a stream of consciousness--like a really weird dream. It's the kind of movie that keeps you watching just to see what happens. You never know where it's going next. Some parts are certainly better than others, but every scene has something memorable about it.

Jodorowsky is part Luis Bunuel (An Andolousian Dog, Viridiana), part Fellini (La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2, Amarcord), and part David Lynch (Eraserhead, Blue Velvet). If you enjoy those three directors, you'll probably find this one worth your while. But if strange, off-beat art films leave you cold, don't bother with it.

- This film is by the guy who said 'I am to film what LSD is to the mind'. That is exactly right in this movie. It makes sense on a higher level of consciousness which most won't catch by seeing the barrage of symbolic images and scenes linked together..however it is a masterpiece of weird cinema. If you're not into pretentious surreal art like Salvador Dali then this isn't for you. He later did Santa Sangre which is an amazing film with a more coherent story.

- First, take a deep breath. Now after a momentary pause take another deep breath. Do these (deep breaths) for a few minutes then open YOUR eyes. That's right, now open your eyes and watch Jodorowski's THE HOLY MOUNTAIN. After viewing this magnum opus of a film, really open YOUR eyes and really take a deep breath for it will do a body good. Enjoy!!!

- Mind-blowing.
I first saw this movie at a friend's house, who essentially sat me down in front of the TV, put this movie on, and made me sit and watch. At first I was a little skeptical; I tend to be somewhat picky when it comes to the movies I watch, and the vague description of it he'd given me hadn't exactly piqued my interest. Right from the first frame though, I was drawn in by the sheer visual artistry and deep symbolism, almost hypnotized by the magic on the screen before me.

True, many people won't understand much of it the first time or two they watch; in fact few will perceive any of the underlying symbolism until several viewings later. But with each subsequent viewing more and more becomes evident, even obvious where it had been obscure before, and the viewer will find themselves even more mesmerized and in love with the sheer beauty than previously.

Truly a mind-blowing movie, that had an ~enormous~ impact on me, my life, and my mind.

- An absolutely brilliant film both in concept and execution.
The Holy Mountain is an epic exploration of religious experience and global socio-political trends. A scathing indictment of the abuse of power by both first and third-world nations, while simultaneously a wonderfully clever fantasy that exposes art and religion as hilarious tools of mass-mind-control. It is a truly sweeping masterpiece full of amazing imagery and even more impressive thought. And it also has one of the best endings you are likely to see -ever. Too bad it is almost impossible to find.

- This is not only, in my opinion, the best movie by maestro Alexandro Jodorowsky, not only the best movie ever made in Mexico or Latin America, or not only the best movie ever...I would say that this sort of work ranks along with the bible or the alcoran of the muslims. It is a proposal with not only an incalculable artistic achievement, but a movie that goes beyond that...A proposal about the human condition, and how to achieve perfection and reach holiness, just like the bible seems to do. As far as a movie, it synthesizes his Panic proposal of the artwork and the world like no other of this work, and can be interpreted in many ways. It's meaningful for everyone who sees it, and cannot be ignored, causing a deep conmotion in every spectator, and him/her to actively participate in the search. In a few words, it is a revelation. A revelation that some people doesn't want you to experience. I dont know how many of you know that the original copies of this movie and El Topo were destroyed by Allen Klein (at least that's how Jodorowsky put it). So, I guess that we the few people who have seen it are very lucky and must really asume that we are. I would synthesize the argument this way (this is what I roughly understood): All the icons that man has created reunite in his mortal form to achieve inmortality, and ultimately holiness. For that, they must become a group, and fuse with a "great self", loosing the concept that each one has of his own. The thief represents christianity, and the rest of the searchers represents a good of the greek pantheon each (Jodorowsky representing the sun, and Ramona Saunders the moon). All of them are thieves, 6 of them represent the most powerful people on the earth, and all of them know that they are mortal. This movie does not criticize any religion, and is not surrealistic either, nor an excersise in sadomasochism (we may be able to say that about "Fando & Lis", his first movie, because that one is an allegory of the couple relationship). Each symbol relates perfectly into a structure that leads you to the end, in which you must participate and assume your own humanity, forgetting about what you understand as "identity". Nevertheless, to come to this conclusion you have to had come across some reading before, and know Jodorowsky's work somehow. Its good that this movie is rated as that because it shows that it caused a reaction, which I believe was the main point, but misunderstood anyway, which has doomed its fate. I am sorry it has been discontinued, mainly because it was misunderstood. I started to become afraid that it would disappear from the face of the earth, but this is the kind of movie that does not become old with time. Its like wine, the more time it spends away, the better it will taste, hopefully. Younger generations seem to like it more than that when it was made. A true view ahead of its time, and perhaps our, because if not, we would be able to buy it at Wal Mart enjoy it without fearing that lawyers would come and get us. Perhaps it just wasnt meant for that.

- what?
what, what what what what? Jesus? Lambs on sticks?

Beautiful. Watch it This film is amazing

Matool has survived a zombie holocaust by inventively using his ever-present hammer and nails. When he meets fellow survivors Dexy and Nathan, he's drawn into their world of bizarre sexual experimentation. As their little group slowly begins to grow, Matool finds himself trying to balance wholesale zombie hacking and free-rein sex … a potent combination in this offbeat flick that combines black comedy and sexploitation.

Leucochloridium paradoxum are a parasitic flatworm that prey on birds.
The worms begin their lives as eggs in bird droppings, and are consumed by snails along vegetation floors.

Once consumed, the worms infect the snail's brains, take control of their mind, then "hypnotize" them into climbing just high enough to become bird food - where the cycle repeats.

One of the issues with trying to arrange a gathering is that I'm currently not blessed with the funds to pay full price for movies.
I may be able to occasionally but mostly I would have to go for matinees.

Also, I need suggestions on what movies people want to see that are out currently and which ones upcoming are of interest.

The only current offering I know of is 'Exorcism of Emily Rose' which I've heard is decent.

Sorry to bother... after the madness of this weekend (hi all I saw, deep apologies to all those I missed).... I know a lot of you are film buffs, and I will refrain from sharing my movie crap with you... but this is supposed to be VERY good.

A deeply disturbing retake on the old "crazy inbreds" thing with a black humour twist (the guy is a vacuous pop guitarist that writes love songs to get ladies)...

his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, and things start going quite wrong.

This is supposed to be on par with Miike's Audition and Visitor Q for the type of realism and depiction of terror, rather than just blood and guts.

Let me know if you go we can say howdy.

Lets try this yet again....

Can I get a sound off from members of this tribe? Name, what interested you about my tribe, and what kinds of get togethers would you like to see?

To start off...

I'm Rachael
I started this tribe because I have trouble finding people to see horror movies with
and I would like to see us put together either an outing to a current horror offering in the theatres or a gathering at someones house/apartment of something we can more or less agree on.

probably been done... top ten lists...

this is not most gruesome or scariest....those are different methinks....

My all time favourite horror films:
1) Romero's Dawn of the dead
2) Romero's Night of the living dead
3) Raimi's Evil Dead I
4) Raimi's Evil Dead II
5) Any Italian zombie film...Fulci, Dario Argento, De Laurentis, and the wonderful CEMETERY MAN (Rupertt Evertt and the amazing direction of Soavi)
6) And of course, Peter Jackson's Dead Alive
7) AND his Bad Taste.... (and meet the feebles)
8) American Werewolf in London
9) Hellraiser II: Hellbound AND
10).. the most disturbing, but not really horror:
Henry portrait of serial killer
cube (lame, but disturbing)
man bites dog (funny, but disturbing),
Last House on the Left (True, but disturbing)
Shawn of the DEAD.. genius!

SCARIEST classic horror films of all time.... (no order) I must go over this.. debunk, disagree... I don't even know if I agree with myself!

1) Session 9 (Monty will kill me for that one)
2) Dagon (brand new.. if you like disturbing, almost cheezy horror films)
3) Amityville Horror (the greatest haunted house tale ever)
4) Exorcist (either version really...latter explains more)
5) Omen (straight from the bible, which is still bunk)
6) The Shining (probably MY scariest of all time)
7) Alien (one of the first scifi/horror I ever saw, and never looked back)
8) Poltergeist (was scared of trees for years because of this one)
9) Rosemary's baby (Mia Farrow played it too well to ignore)
10) Invasion of the body snatchers (Donald Sutherland gets the single greatest moment in film ending history)
11) Halloween (The most groundbreaking unstoppable homicidal maniac film.. if not the first, the first to blow the lid off them all)
12) Silence of the lambs... (dude, it was scary the first time you saw it, admit it)
13) Jacob's Ladder 0 so fucked up it's gotta be here
14) Nightmare on Elm Street - ..1 only...
15) Phantasm - Scrimm and the ball... nuff said

Hellraiser info needed, and new member intro.

Hello, all

I joined the tribe network this past January 2005, and joined this trabe about a month ago, or so ..

I've been putting a movie collection together over the past two years now that we have a home theater system..

More and more movies from back in the 1940's through 1960's seem to be popping up as DVD's ...

Since Sony now owns MGM, the entire archive of MGM's movies will eventually be on DVD's and probably digitally restored and remastered also ...

Someone woulda thought that MGM could have recruited the talent to do this themselves. Perhaps the management was so stuck in the "Movie studio mode" that they couldn't change with the times ...

My partner and I live east of San Jose, up on Mount Hamilton. It sounds really remote, however the entire zip code of 95140 is "Mount Hamilton" only because Lick Observatory has a post office up there....

Movies having a theme about alternate realities have always been especially kewl ..

Now for the question:

I'd like to put the entire Hellraiser series of movies together, however the titles don't all contain the word Hellraiser, and they are not numbered like the Freddie Kruger series ...

Or maybe I'm a bit incorrect ....

If anyone on this tribe has researched all of the titles for the Hellraiser series, it would be helpful to post them on this thread...

Thanx ...

Elaine

There are now 2 horror type things out right now that I want to see. Dark Water just hit the theatres and George Romero's new zombie pic has been out for a bit.
I would like to attempt a gathering to see either or both of these...any takers?

Now that I have a small following....

I would like to welcome all who have joined and open discussions for future gatherings to watch either new or favorite horror movies.

So far, the only movie upcoming that I know of is the re-make of the Japanese ghost story 'Dark Water'. I'd love to get a group together to go see this one.
If anyone knows of other upcoming horror flicks, please post and let everyone else know.

Another thing I'd love to do is arrange (either at my place or someone else's) occasional movie nights to watch favorites.

Thanks,
Rachael
