We are moving into a great new home, but as it is a small townhouse , so we are converting the basement into added living space. There is one caveat though- The unsightly water heater - we need to find a way to conceal it and were thinking of using fire retardant curtains hanging from rods suspended from the ceiling about a foot out from the heater and above the ground enough to not stifle the air flow- Is this safe to do, and if not, what are the alternatives? I have looked everywhere on the web and cannot find more information. Any ideas. Please help. Many thanks !

Re: Conceal water heater with curtain ?
Thu, April 12, 2007 - 6:51 AMIs it an electric or gas WH?
You could get one of those screens people use for dividing rooms. You know... the ones with three panels ladies change behind in movies.
They tend to have space at the bottoms for air flow.
Overstock has them occassionally for fairly cheap and they have cheap delivery.

Re: Conceal water heater with curtain ?
Wed, September 17, 2008 - 2:28 AMIf you have the money, you could also replace your big old water heater with a small new tankless one. They're pricey, but they take up very little space and they'll save you money on your energy bill.
