Kitchen cabinets

Was looking at Lowe's last night and have a question about pricing. Say a set of cabinets are $150 per linear foot, and a typical 10x10 kitchen runs $3000. Is that for both, top and bottom, or just one or the other? Is the $150/ft for base and wall as a package ($75/ft each), or is the $3k for just the base or the wall and a total set would run $6k (plus $2k for countertops and another thousand for a sink and faucet)?

yuo need to talk to the sales person. these prices are general. 10X 10 could cost between aprox $2,500 to well lotts. All depends on what you put in it. The online sights wont give you any idea. it's all designed to get you to call the sales person so they can sell you. so call tell them what you want, then call sometone else till you get an idea what you wana do. Keep in mind everbody want to make $$$.. you job is to get the most for the littlest. it's not easy..Good luck.
Also if you remodling a kitchen. think about re aranging & refacing existing cab. could save you alot.

As DragonWire thought on price is right on when you start any remodel. The racing adage applies to remodeling. “Speed is money, how fast do you want to go?” The level of finishes applies here also, the higher level the more money you have to shell out. For example do you want Granite countertops or Formica countertops? For cabinets, do you want wood particle sides or plywood sides? How long are you staying in house? These questions you need to have an opinion on when you start shopping for you cabinets.

What is included or not included in the 150/l.f, I do not know.

The price for the cabinet is affected by its material construction, finish and the manufacturer. Home Depot and Lowes will be similar in price and products. I would suggest you also shop at your local lumberyard for they will also have different products that might meet your budget. Also, I notice you are from South Carolina; there is a Cabinet manufacturer in or near Dublin Georgia that has a seconds division. My parents save a 1/3 of the cabinet price but the selection was small due them being seconds. Cabinets look good, there was mostly just blemishes in the finish. Could save you some money, if it is not too far. If you want the name let me know I will give my folks a call.

my guess, being that it came from lowes, is that that price is for cabinets and doors. probably from mills pride or a similar production factory. that is a pretty good price if you are getting something close to a custom door and finish. I work on homes where 15000 dollars is easily spent for cabinets for a kitchen that size from a custom shop. I however am a severe penny pincher. I could never afford that kind of scratch for a kitchen that small. I am in the midst od remodeling my kitchen, and i bought home depot "knock down" cabinets off of the shelf with the doors that come in a box off of the shelf, and with a little creative use of filler pieces and a custon range hooh, I am going to end up with a really nice set of kitchen cabinets for a kitchen that is u shaped 7"x8"x12" for around 1500...I am a 15 year carpenter, so I know a few tricks to make it easier, and I bought granite tile and bullnose from a liquidator.....ill post a few pics when i get closer to done. as a pro carpenter I find it difficult to forsake snowboarding or cartoons for .......work...so it is slow going.
I have found, with knockdowns, that you are definatley better off doing your own measurements and ordering them yourself. if you are precice, you will not only save money and time, but the assembly will be less painful than pulling teeth....
custom cabinet shops...lowes included....are nice if you dont mind spending the money so you dont have to think about the job for a while, but if a couple of thousand bucks does matter to you and you dont mind making a few return trips to the store to get it right....the finished product can be just as good, as long as the available finish on the doors is something you can live with....

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, then the 'knockdowns' are what I'm currently looking at (even instead of building them myself). I can piece together a decent set of cabinets this way for about $1000-1200 (I have to stain them myself, but still cheaper) and then can use the extra money I save on a nice counter top.

I'm still considering building my own custom cabinets, but first I'm going to start by building a small set for the garage so I can see how much time and effort is involved, and if it's any cheaper per square foot to do it this way. The knock down cabinets are looking good, though.
