in which the word "ass" is censored. it went "all I got was this I lost my ass in las vegas t-shirt" but what episode, what season? ugh It's driving me crazy, and I haven't had time to watch season 4 if it happened in that season!!

20. Little Sister - Rose is jealous when her sister comes to visit and spends most of her time with Dorothy and Blanche.

so hey there people...

i'm really excited because i was one of the first people to call in on monday morning and get tickets for bea's show in salem on 8 oct - and i've got three seats in the fifth row center!!! wahoo!

a friend suggested making a crazy macaroni portrait of bea for her, and i just may do that. i'm quite possibly insane enough to do such a thing, and i was wondering if there are any other of y'all who are planning on coming to this show. let me know if it strikes your fancy... maybe we can have some kind of bea-homage/tribe-rendez-vous.

anyway, i can't wait, and i'm sure you all can't either.

Degrees of Separation

OK, so I'm bored and want some Tribe action, so I'm sharing a lil story that happened this past weekend.

So a friend of mine and I are returning from Colorado and we're in the LAX terminal. He sees some old guy who seriously looks homeless and says, "Oh, he's an actor." I said, "I've never seen him before in my life." I then notice this old, frumpy man, with disheveled hair and dirty clothing, taking his camera and photographing everything around him, including various shuttles outside and so forth. I thought, "Okay, a little nutty."

The old man walks near us and my friend says, "Excuse me, sir, may I ask your name?" He says, "Bill Macy." I'm like, "Okay," not really putting anything together. My friend probes further, asking, "What would you say was your biggest success in your career?" to which the old relic replies, "I'd say Maude. I was like, "OMG, as in 'God'll get you for that, Walter?'" Anyway, we visited for a while, he told us about how Norman Lear is a "mother fucking cocksucker son of a bitch" and that he was waiting to take his wife's photo as she deplaned.

Anyway, he's 83 now. Amazing how time flies. His face looks like a catcher's mitt, bless his heart.

Just wanted to post a somewhat GG-related topic, since Bea and Rue were on Maude. :)

Rue McCLanahan's 'Golden' Tragedy

Former "Golden Girls" star RUE McCLANAHAN's career continues to soar, as the sassy septuagenarian is currently starring on Broadway in Wicked and has a Hallmark TV movie, "Back To You & Me," airing this Saturday, July 23.

When we caught up with Rue, she filled us in on the tragic state of her former "Golden Girls" co-star ESTELLE GETTY, who suffers from dementia, and how she's doing.

"Not well at all, not well at all," Rue tells ET. "Estelle doesn't know anything about having done a show called 'Golden Girls.' She doesn't recognize any of us; doesn't recognize us in person and doesn't recognize us over the phone. And she can't really carry on a conversation anymore."

Back in November 2004, ET learned that the actress who played the lovable and quick-witted Sophia on the hit NBC show was suffering from dementia. Despite tabloid rumors that she was dying, which is not the case, Estelle's former castmates rallied together to set the record straight at a party to celebrate the release of the first "Golden Girls" DVD.

"She's got the same disease, I was told, that DUDLEY MOORE died of," says Rue. "I don't know what it's called. It's not Alzheimer's, and it's not Lou Gehrig's, and it's not Parkinson's. You can't think anymore."

Though the "Golden Girls" were briefly reunited, sans Estelle, just last November, Rue admits the co-stars do not get to see each other that often. "Generally, it's about once a year," says Rue, referring to intermittent opportunities to take in each others' stage performances on the east and west coast. "There's not a lot of personal involvement with everybody. We worked together but we didn't party together."

Still, Rue reflects positively on her "Golden" co-stars. "I have affection for all three, absolutely, and they for me," she says.

Airing on the Hallmark Channel Saturday, July 23 at 9 p.m. EDT, "Back To You & Me" stars Rue as the estranged mother of a successful doctor (LISA HARTMAN BLACK) who takes some long-needed time off to attend her 20th high school reunion, re-evaluate her life and face the love (DALE MIDKIFF) she left behind. In Wicked, the untold story of the witches from The Wizard of Oz, Rue plays Madame Morrible.

This was sent to me on another GG group online. I thought it was interesting (and disappointing). What d'yall think?:

Hello. I am not sure if all of you are aware, but the GOLDEN GIRLS
dvd sets are being released in mono sound (both season 1 and 2 so
far), when they are actually stereo on Lifetime and were stereo when
first broadcast. I think this is terrible. On the first season set,
on the 3rd disc, it actually switches to stereo on one of the
episodes for about 40 seconds, showing that this is a tech error on
Disney's part. Every episode of this show was in full stereo, and is
daily broadcast that way on Lifetime TV. The first set actually says
stereo surround on the back, but it isn't, and the 2nd they just
changed the statement to mono.We need to get more complaints to
Buena Vista Home Video so that they will replace the dvd's and
correct this for future issues.

one of the two first seasons, as they ask for a number printed on

I hope all of you will help on my crusade against this travesty on
the sound. I believe that when you buy something on dvd that was
from television, it should be the best in quality, when you're
spending 40.00-50.00 on a tv show, it should be as originally
broadcast. The 2nd set also contains no chapter stops, where the
first set does. They are getting cheaper every time. Maybe if we all
complain they will make future sets in stereo, the way it is every
day on Lifetime TV and the way it was when originally broadcast.

hilarious rose moments

This was when they were doing Empty Nest crossovers.. I believe the dogs name was dreyfuss...

anyway, sophia is watching dreyfuss or something and she loses him, only to go to the pound and find a replacement (i swear i am getting the overall plot wrong). late in the show, after dreyfuss is found, sophia is upset because now that both dogs are in the same room she can't tell them apart and thusly can't return the right one to the empty nest folks. Rose comes in and cautiously offers her help, saying they used to have "an old trick that worked sometimes back in St. Olaf".... Of course sophia is skeptical as Rose bends down pensively and nervously says "here dreyfuss, c'mere boy!"

oh man that had me laughing for an hour.

'The Golden Girls' Reunite for DVD Release

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Nearly 20 years after they first appeared on television's "The Golden Girls," stars Bea Arthur (news), Rue McClanahan and Betty White were together again.

They reunited at The Museum of Television & Radio Thursday night to celebrate the DVD release of "The Golden Girls: The Complete First Season."

"We're just like sorority sisters who haven't seen each other since college," bubbled McClanahan. "We just pick right up."

"The Golden Girls," which aired on NBC from 1985-92, followed the misadventures of three middle-aged women and one senior citizen, played by Estelle Getty (news), living together in suburban Miami.

The DVD release serves up each episode from the 1985-86 season, "When we were all oh, so young and beautiful and fresh," noted McClanahan.

"Well, two out of three ain't bad," joked White, 82.

White said she knew she struck gold the minute she read the show's first script, AP Television News reported.

"Oh, and it was such a thrill," she said. "You do a lot of shows over the years. I've been in the business for 55 years."

Enter McClanahan: "She started out in silent television."

"Yeah, I was a pioneer in silent television," White fired back. "But the fact that, after all these years, you've read a lot of bad scripts, you've done a lot of bad shows. We kind of knew after the first show that, `Whoops! We're onto something.'"

"The Golden Girls" is a programming staple on the Lifetime cable network, where it fills some 30 hours of the weekly schedule. But success isn't limited to the United States.

"We get mail from all over," White explained. "Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Fiji, Finland, I just did a half-hour interview with Finland. And you think, `What do they see in these countries in these four old broads?' But somehow it works."

The DVD celebration included a big-screen showing of the series' pilot episode, as well as a brief question-and-answer session with the stars and some key crew members.

Arthur, White and McClanahan had done some work together in late spring for a Lifetime special "TV's Greatest Sidekicks," airing Nov. 25.

But, Arthur noted, getting together now isn't at all like the old days.

"No," she said, flatly.

After all, Getty, 81, was conspicuously absent. Getty retired in 2000, after announcing she had Parkinson's disease (news - web sites).

Arthur could barely get through a sentence, choking up when talking about how Getty's memory had faded.

And McClanahan detailed her own recent phone conversation with her former co-star.

"I said, `Hey, Estelle, how ya doin'?' And all she said was ... `Yes.'

"Desperate Housewives" - "Golden Girls" connection

Anyone notice that the crazy dad on "Desperate Houswives" (the one who's wife committed suicide -- or did she? -- in the opening episode) is the same actor who played "David," George Deveraux's illegitimate son who posed as an encyclopedia salesman? :)

And I'll bet, unlike on our beloved "Golden Girls," the same actor will play that same character until he moves or dies or whatever.

hey all, i just wanted to say i just found this tribe a couple of days ago and joined asap. i really love the gg's and feel like they have been with me and will be with me for the long haul. i watched them with my mom in /middle/high school before getting a car along with amen, 227, and designing women. then, when they hit lifetime television for woman, it was on. at times i have found that i am watching up to 7 episodes a day and it even caused issues in a place i was living. anyway, all hail the golden girls. thanks for having this tribe. bye for now. david a

GOLDEN GIRL CAUSES TERRORIST SCARE IN BOSTON
"Golden Girls" star Bea Arthur sparked a security scare at Boston's Logan International Airport earlier this week when she tried to board a flight with a pocketknife in her handbag.
The actress, 81, was about to board a Cape Air flight when a Transportation Security Administration agent discovered the offensive article in her belongings, which is strictly forbidden on airplanes since the September 11 attacks.

A fellow passenger says, "She started yelling that it wasn't hers and said 'The terrorists put it there.' She kept yelling about the 'terrorists, the terrorists, the terrorists.'"

After the knife was confiscated by TSA officials, the funnywoman pulled out a keyring from her bag and told the agent it belonged to the "terrorists," before throwing it at them.

As she boarded the plane, the Emmy-winning star told the TSA employees, "We're all doomed."

A spokeswoman for Cape Air says, "Miss Arthur was cracking jokes and was a real character."

My favorite is: The one in which Blanche's father Big Daddy has died, and is coping and trying to deal with his death and her sister vrigina. Made me cry when she says goodbye to her father.

Hi everybody,
I'm sorry it took me a whuile to come by and say Hi, I think I've been a member for a few weeks now.
I heard about this group from a Yahoo Golden Girl group.
I really like Rose from the Golden girls, she was always funny:) Especially all of her ST Olav stories, did I spell that right, I'm never sure of the correct spelling of that town.
I've kind of had this crazy idea, I shared with everyone at the Yahoo golden girl group, so I thought I'd try it on everyone here, if there is someone who has not heard it yet.
Well, I had this idea maybe it would be cool to have a Bed and breakfast like thing, something like a bed and breakfast and have it look exactly like the Golden girl house, and people could spend a few days there, it would be especially cool for Golden Girl fans, like us, and anybody else who love the Golden girls, it wouldn't be the same house, but one could be made to look exactly like it, including with all of the furnishings on the inside of the house.
So what does everybody think of that idea?
I don't even know if anyone has even had the idea before, I'm always kind of worried I might be stealing someone else's idea and not know it, I heard there is an exact repleca of the Golden girls house at a resort in Disney world or something, I think. I don't know if it true or not.

OK, yesterday's episode was so funny. Dorothy and Rose try to repair their bathroom by themselves because plumbers are totally dissing them and charging too much. Anyway, after the plumber drops off the new toilet and refuses to help move it to the bathroom, Dorothy is all pissed:

Sophia: "Was that the plumber?"

Dorothy: "No, Ma, it was a little girl selling Girl Scout toilets."

Then after Rose and Dorothy are unable to move the toilet themselves ...

Rose: "Dorothy, if the Egyptians built the pyramids, we can move this toilet!"

Dorothy: "Fine, get me 20 thousand Hebrews, and I'll have it outta here in no time."

I moved to France 2 years ago from Israel.
In Israel they dont dub tv shows, its all subtitled.

Anyway, since I moved to France, I'm constantly chacking tv channels for Golden Girls, curious about how the dubbing would sound(usualy crappy and not funny).

Yesterday I open the telly at 1 am, zapping a bit, till I get to a german channel, where guess which program is on?

Golden Girls!

Guess which language they speak?

German!!!!!

I laughed for hours! theres nothing funnier than that! even though I dont speak a word of german :P (or maybe just because I dont speak a word of german..).

I loved Punky...it was (& still is) such a cute show. In these violent of times,I'm glad that Punky was released onto DVD...to go back a visit those more innocent times.

Anyway...a comment about the Who's the Boss set...do you think that that is why Nick at Nite is running a marathon next week?

If anyone hears of any other classic sitcoms that are coming out on DVD, PLEASE keep me posted. I guess you could say that I'm a "collector".

Was watching the episode last night where the girls take care of Rose's uncle's pig, Baby (a classic). Anyway Blanche says she has 4 kids - then rattles off the names of 3 sons - Biff, something else and Skippy. But what about her 2 daughters -- Rebecca and Janet? And is there maybe one more daughter I am leaving out?

I LOVE this two-parter; however, is it just me or does it seem like Dorothy is literally reading her lines as she reprimands her former doctor in the restaurant? It's a great speech, but I swear she is reading it, and I've never seen her do that in other episodes.

I have grown to love her character as much as Dorothy's!! Rue's delivery is so awesome. Some of my favorite Blanche moments/lines:

"Tell me a story, Rose. That always does the trick ... tell me one of your boring stories." (When Blanche is becoming a novelist.)

Any time she goes on and on about being plucked like a ripe peach at its dewey fruition lying under a Magnolia tree, etc. lol

You've probably seen this someplace else, but have you noticed how the Golden Girls used to recycle actors playing guest-starring roles on their show?

"Dorothea's" would-be mother from Italy also played Frida Clackston (the woman who everyone hated and who wanted the tree removed).
"Dorothea's" would-be father from Italy was also the guy in the wheelchair whom Sophia enlisted to be the foreman while Blanche, Rose, and Dorothy re-did the garage.
"Isaac Newton," Rose's "boyfriend" from the White Pages, also played Rita Moreno's husband when she guest-starred.

C'mon now, I know you can think of some others!

Did anyone else ever see that rerun of SNL (hosted by lara flynn boyle) where they did a take-off of all the deaths/mishaps resulting from people imitating the stunts on the show Jackass? This time it was someone dying as a result of recreating the Golden Girls, and I swear it was one of THE funniest sketches on SNL that I've ever seen. If I can find it available on one of the p2p sites like soulseek I will try to figure out a way to make it available for y'all to see it, because it is truly hilarious...

OK, this is ridiculous but true. Several months ago, I was home with the flu and watching my "Interview With The Vampire" DVD. I started getting sleepy so I turned it off. Two back-to-back episodes of TGG were on and I fell asleep in front of the TV.

Before I knew it, I was dreaming of the vampire movie but Bea Arthur had taken over as the lead bloodsucker. I was pretty frightening to see her in one of her "Dorothy" outfits sprouting fangs and gnawing on Brad Pitt.

I have stupid dreams that way.
