99.5th percentile

Are you one of us?

Have you scored 141 or above on a standardized IQ test? Do you believe that this result is fairly meaningless in terms of predicting whether or not you will ever contribute anything significant to society? Have you known people who scored well on IQ tests, but who nevertheless ended up in rehab, jail, psychiatric hospitals or homeless shelters? Have you never seriously considered joining Mensa because it impressed you as some sort of intellectual circle jerk? Do you think it's funny that Lewis Terman (the creator of the Stanford-Binet test and one of the first advocates of the idea of IQ) studied the alleged top 1% of kids in Northern California, which included no Nobel laureates, but that two kids in the area who DID grow up to be Nobel laureates didn't make the cut, based on their IQ scores? Do you think that Herrnstein and Murray's book, The Bell Curve, desperately needed peer review before publication, and ultimately isn't worth the paper that it's printed on? Do you appreciate the irony in the fact that half of the "99th Percentile" tribe are ineligible for this one?
