Glad to encounter this tribe.

Paraphrase of Einstein: "We have enough intelligence to understand that intelligence is not enough."

I feel a bit sorry for Mensa types who base soooo much of their identity on being high IQ. They define themselves in terms of a seriously flawed and not very useful . Exploring in that direction will not get them very far.

Having studied these issues for quite a while, I have come come to define myself not as a creature of intellect. I am a creature of emotion.

Among other things, I call reasoning a mindless reflex - you get info, and pattern it without any will or deliberate intent.

I also call the reasonings the aptitudes without mercy. I guess that's a value judgment.

For fuck's sake, Satan, you're a lawyer. Where is your steel-trap mind? You're slacking, man.

You quoted the OP, who is not unsubbed.

I hope not. It's not for me. I've read up on it and decided I don't like it at all. No, thanks, I'd rather not.

"The first symptom of CJD is rapidly progressive dementia, leading to memory loss, personality changes and hallucinations. This is accompanied by physical problems such as speech impairment, jerky movements (myoclonus), balance and coordination dysfunction (ataxia), changes in gait, rigid posture, and seizures. The duration of the disease varies greatly, but sporadic (non-inherited) CJD can be fatal within months or even weeks (Johnson, 1998). In some people, the symptoms can continue for years. In most patients, these symptoms are followed by involuntary movements and the appearance of a typical diagnostic electroencephalogram tracing.

The symptoms of CJD are caused by the progressive death of the brain's nerve cells, which is associated with the build-up of abnormal prion proteins. When brain tissue from a CJD patient is examined under a microscope, many tiny holes can be seen where whole areas of nerve cells have died. The word 'spongiform' in 'transmissible spongiform encephalopathies' refers to the 'spongy' appearance of the brain tissue."

Wow, that description is so clinical and calm compared to the horrendous reality. Thankfully, CJD ppls aren't really aware of what's happening to them.

Speaking of dementia, I'm taking Mike to task for his tight grip on the old 99%. I do believe it's moderated with members not allowed to invite others specifically because he's afraid of your influence, Satan. He looks to TOU Watchdog and your participation as a cautionary tale. Strangely, I see that tribe as one to be emulated.

                        Congratulations, Satan! I'm impressed.

                          Aw, gee. I'm blushing.

It is so funny that it only took one day of my mild version of trolling (if you can even call it that) Mike in his Self Proclaimed Genius Tribe to cause him to have a complete emotional breakdown, boot many of his friends and publically disown them for agreeing with me, and then take his tribe into moderated status.

Actually, it is not all that funny. It causes me to believe the poor lad has a very weak grip on things. Had I known at the time that his ego was so fragile, I would have left him alone. How was I to know?

Has anyone ever met him? Does he have emotional problems?

Is there anything I can do to help him?

"Good lord, that is the most ridiculous definition of reasoning ever posted."

That is not a definition of reasoning. I think of it as an interesting and possibly useful cross section of a multi-dimensional and incredibly complex phenomenon.

As far as I can tell, most definitions of reasoning are ridiculous. To be regarded as the most ridiculous is quite an achievement. lol.
