rain, rain, go away!

It's raining, again, here in my lovely hometown. My grass is nearing waist-high and I have no idea when I'll be able to mow it down. For the past few weeks, the pain has been so bad that I just couldn't imagine the task of getting the mower outside, dealing with the power cables, pushing the darn thing back and forth - and my yard isn't even that big. But, you guys know how it is, even the simplest chore can be daunting when you're in pain.

So, finally I've been starting to feel better, and a bit guilty that I put it off for so long. Yesterday, I woke up with all great intentions of finally tackling the job, but it was raining. Today, same thing. Even if the rain stops, the grass is wet, making it pretty much impossible to use the mower without mucking it up with the wet stuff. And now, we're heading into the hot weather, which makes it even more difficult. The way my yard is positioned, there are big hedges that block the sun on most of it and I always have to wait until later in the afternoon just to let the normal dew from the morning dry out. I can't imagine how long it will take to dry out the rain, too, and deal with sweaty, stinky weather, ugh!

If I had the money, and a willing victim, I would gladly pay someone to do it for me. But, alas, the neighbor kid that previously had the job has now turned 21 and no longer has any interest doing it.

Waaaahhh.

Sorry, done whining now. I just had to share.

    I feel your pain Heather...
    the yard here is huge...
I'm so glad I no longer have
    to mow it...
I have several gardens to tend
    four flower beds
    1 medium size garden..
    so.. when it rains
    I'm greatfull for the assistance
    with watering it all..
    but.. the downside
is the weather kicks my arse..
and the rain not only makes
    the flowers and vegies grow..
but give the dang weeds a kick start too...

sick as hell I had to pull weeds for
two hours yesterday... ouch ouch ouch...

maybe you can find another kid
looking to make a few bucks
who will do your yard work for you?

    hugs,
    anni

I'm with Anni here. I have a pretty good size yard; so I've made huge flower beds all about the place to reduce the amount of mowing necessary to keep up the yard. On several occasions I have not been able to physical push the mower but the yard needed cutting so bad I grabbed my weed eater and used it to cut the grass. It was a lot less taxing on me and I took several breaks. If you get desperate you can always cheat this way.

My ex actually had an amusing idea... pave it over in concrete and paint it green!

I worry about trying any type of garden, whether flowers or foods, because we have so many critters in the area. My neighbor's yard is practically a feast and you can see the groundhog trail going through my yard to his. My other neighbor told me she saw deer in the backyard not long ago. It's crazy. I live just a few blocks from city hall and the downtown area, but there is a huge cemetery across the street and lots of wild growth down by the river.

In front of my house, is a small flower area around a tree. I've already found some of my tulip bulbs were magically transportated into the backyard, presumably with the help of some squirrels. I also found some odd purple flowers that I don't recognize, probably replanted from elsewhere in the neighborhood.
