Anyone allergic or hypersensitive to septra or anything like it? It would be helpful to have as many responses as possible. Will explain.

Re: Septra and other sulfate type things
Thu, April 3, 2008 - 11:22 AMI know I tested as allergic to 'sulfa' drugs back a couple of decades -- and based on the couple times I've tried it, MSM (aka 'organic sulfur') seems to make me sick too (which lead me to conclude that all sulphur-ish compounds might be best fer me to avoid...) -

Re: Septra and other sulfate type things
Thu, April 3, 2008 - 12:36 PMI didn't know I was alergic to sulfer based meds until last Nov.
Had a Major reaction, I thought I was going to die!
I'm not going near any of those EVER again. -

Re: Septra and other sulfate type things
Sat, April 5, 2008 - 6:15 PMI've had severe allergic reactions to sulfa since the early 90's. I used it once. My throat closed up. My skin looked like it was breaking down to a cellular level -- combination alien/reptile.
It's been on my allergy list since then

Re: Septra and other sulfate type things
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 1:04 AMI proudly raise my hand and say anything with sulfer in it gets me into trouble. Like for instance those lovely COX-2 drugs Celebrex, Vioxx, Bextra, and whatever the other one is...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr cause it would be nice to have something that might help a bit more with the joint pain, but alas it is not meant to be <sigh> . The thing is I have had to remind more than one doctor that I am allergic to it when they start prescribing meds (even though they were staring at my chart as they attempted to do so-IDIOTS). Thankfully I have some better docs now, but I wonder is there a list somewhere of all the medications containing sulfer/sulfa. It would be good to have in hand- I only caught those old docs b/c I happened to know something about the particular med they were trying to prescribe. -

Sun, April 6, 2008 - 1:14 AM[after flipping back thru the Wikipedia entry on Vioxx]
Huh, I never realized there wuz sulfur in Vioxx -- which means that's at least *one* sulfur-containing med I never reacted badly to (at least back when it wuz still available, dernded it all anyhoo [sigh]...)
