my name's sam, i live in portland and i'm doing deep tissue/swedish/esalen there . . . it's fun but the winters suck! i used to live in santa cruz, then LA . . . it's hard to get through this long dark night that lasts like six months!

so i'm thinking to myself, how can i do this job, but abroad, like, use it to travel? does anyone of you have any experience working for any vacation companies or anything like that? i've tried contacting one or two people who do "yoga vacations" and asking them if i can be their personal massage therapist, for the clients . . . no luck yet, although i did have a few courteous "no" replies.

i also thought about working at various spas in Central America . . . i know the work's out there, i just don't really know where they are . . . or how they treat their employees, how much money you can make, etc . .

any info you could send my way would be awesome! please email me at my tribe address . . . or at relativelyharmless@yahoo.com

thanks!

I don't know much about it really, but all i know is almost all my friends do massages for a living here on Maui. It takes a Hawaiien liscence, but i think there are the few that do it under the table. I used to do it under the table, and make enough for paying m,y rent. There is a lot of demand for massage in a vacation place like Maui.

    Hi Sam,

I think your best bet would be to find work with a resort, or maybe even a cruise ship if that's an environment you can deal with. I am not sure about the requirements at resorts, if they will hire foreigners if there are local people able to do the work, but it won't hurt to try. There are lots of little places that offer massages to tourists but I think those are local organizations, and from the prices they charge, it doesnt seem to me like you'd make much money.
