My first impression of the world of Second Life (three days after joining), is that of rampant consumerism. We've been given the opportunity to design a brave new world and we've filled it with shopping malls and McMansions. Its residents have brought all the flash and trash from the old world to the new. Instead of virtual artists living in virtual studios creating virtual art, SL is full of avatars who put bathrooms in the houses they build. And roofs that keep out the virtual rain.

Re: First impressions
Wed, December 7, 2005 - 4:37 PMHaving said that, I spend way too much time on SL. Why? Cos it's fun! I can creat things there that I can't build in real life. I spend most of my time in Sandbox Island because you can build things there if you haven't bought any land. And even thoughthe sandbox is wiped clean every 12 hours, it's easy to save your creations in your inventory and bring them out later. -

Re: First impressions
Fri, December 9, 2005 - 1:20 PMI've spent more time exploring recently and the chaotic variety of the place is astounding. My favorite discovery is a gypsy caravan parked on a tiny lot next to a mega-mall, and it's quite charming. You can sit around the campfire, listen to the birds sing and turn your back on commerce -

Re: First impressions
Fri, March 23, 2007 - 2:45 PMyeah, at first I was really distressed that all i could find was gambling casinos and strip malls- but I have had a lot of fun hanging out in the sandbox and building. I've made a couple of different costumes for my avatar based off of my cartoons, now I am trying to learns scripting in objects to create more new and exciting things. I love the fact that your creations are instantly accessible to there residents/collaborators. Look me up in SL- yvve yalin. If anyone here has any advice onscripting, I am working on a ufo for my avatar to fly around in, having some trouble. I found a free script, but when I try to fly I have no control, I just spin around. I think the script was designed for a PC keyboard? any help would be welcome. See you around!

Re: First impressions
Thu, July 19, 2007 - 9:44 AMAt first I was distressed also but then I got into land. I now have a large estate. Terra forming is fun. Lake, waterfalls, etc. I have several buildings. I took a castle and removed the turrets to look like a theater. I built a stage and seating. And I put a tavern next to it. I don't run a tavern but I wanted to build it.
I have two avatars Bitsy Vella a 12 yr old and Vickie Wunderland her 24 yr old sister.
