Downhill?

So, i think it's universally agreed that this season the show has gone downhill. I'm wonderin', are the writers:

-just takin' some time to fill in plot holes, do logistical stuff to build to a buncha great new stuff?
or are they
-on a coke binge turned downward spiral of yes men and high priced whores filming whatever pablum spews onto their laptops? (the twin peaks effect)

opinions?

    Hmmm.....

I really liked this week's episode. I'm not sure it's gone downhill as much as we are now familiar with the plot style and it's just more familiar and less surprising.

Now twim peaks on the other hand.....

Once the whole prostitution in the woods thing came out...yikes.

I don't think it's universally agreed at all. I for one disagree, and by the comments on the Lost tribe, others like it too. (but I am easily amused these days . . .)

then is started to get really good again with all that alien stuff...

      then they killed it.

I am TOTALLY diggin' lost this season. I don't know why people keep saying it's 'tarded. Hmmmm....

Not tarded, just "compared to last season" it's just not as good. But, really there aren't too many shows that can compare to LOST, ever...especially last season. Now, don't get me wrong, this season is still good, but just not GREAT like last season. But, there is still time, and I never quit on a show!

season one was way better, but season 2 is still watchable - the only episode that really sucked was the shannon "bad soap opera" episode, but she's gone so hopefully we'll never have to see her again... except when Sayid has flashbacks of her... he didn't really love her, he just needed a fuck buddy. I think he's just pissed b/c he has to go back to rubbing one out.

leave it to me to bring this post into the gutter

btw, is it just me or is the acting just plain horrible?

lost is like melrose place meets gilligans island with a dash of mystery thrown in for good measure.

ps: i was watching last seasons "Curb your Enthusiasm" and in the Episode where Larry buys pot off the street for his dads glaucoma, hurly is the drug dealer ...fucking hilarious episode! anyone? anyone?

Dude, I do remember that! And, I think I was high on weed when I watched that episode! I love Curb Your Enthusiasm...

How about the time when Larry gave that prostitute to a baseball game because he didn't want to be seen at a game alone? Is that right? I think that's how I remember it, but you know how cannabis can be....

he was on his way to the game and as he looked over at the freeway the only lane moving was the carpool lane so when the prostitute propositioned him, he let her in and jumped on the freeway with her and was gonna pay her to wait in the car during the game ...till she found the extra ticket in his car and they had to sit together - the story just gets better from there

maybe we should take this over to the curb tribe

There are plenty of women on the Lost tribe who will sign up to be Sayid's new fuck buddy . . .

And yeah, the acting is NOT emmy worthy, but it's still entertaining. I think anything compared to the first season will come away lacking, because the newness of it made it very intriguing. (sp?)

I'd like to see Larry David on Lost, now that would be funny!! Can you imagine his reaction to everything on the island?

Yeah, yeah thats it! That was hilarious! Yeah, the curb tribe would be a better forum for it.

I can hear Larry David on Lost now:

"wait a minute? where is the guy from ireland going? what does he know, that we don't. And, he shouldn't call me brother. Unless, he's jewish. Was he jewish?"

Come on down, sista...I can tivo it for ya! I love that show! Thanks to Rob(e)...it took me a couple of episodes but man, that prostitute episode was so freaking funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't kick Sayid out of bed for eating crackers (and not just cuz he was HOT in my fave movie, The English Patient, either!!)

Over the last weekend I watched the entire first season (I downloaded it off ITunes), as well as this season's shows and noticed that this season, while having its strengths, is not to par with the first season. But it's only the begining of the season and it looks like they're taking much longer to develop the characters and the plot than they did in the first one. Plus the introduction of the new survivors, plus the computer and all the other stuff makes it look like it's going to be a good one in the end.

Someone told me that it looks like the writers just make it up as they go along. I for one wholeheartedly disagree, if not for the fact that there are certain rules to the plot structure for each one e.g. the first character that appears in the show typically is the character that episode delves into as far as backstory, and in a good show, the backstory ties in heavily with what happens on the island so that the plot progression has to be very planned out. Some things look like they've been abandoned, like Locke's leg somehow failing at a critical moment, "just a charlie horse," and in the next episode it's fine, and somehow we're supposed to believe that he might have been lying about it for some mysterious reason. Things like that bug me as a writer, but overall the plot development is superb.

Well, we'll see. Depends if it's all going somewhere, doesn't it? I certainly hope it is. After season 1 I would have said definitely, yes, the plot's going somewhere for a reason. Now I'm not so sure. Even if it's just from a logistical point of view. They can't tie up lose ends or have it all lead to an "outcome" without ending the show, or sucking the life out of it.

I sure hope this is all part of a bigger story though.

You know, I saw or read (I can't remember where) but I distinctly remember one of the writers saying that they make up a lot of it as they go along...which I found really weird but it explains a lot.

I believe Rob(e) has told us that he read that the creators said the show will last 6 years and that in the end they WILL get off the island! That was during last season that he heard this and I wonder if it will have changed since this is such a huge success...I just can't imagine watching this show for SIX YEARS!! Won't it get old???
