I've just joined "Tribes" tonight. I'm looking for fellow Star Trek fans. Specifically, I'm interested in Star Trek fans who prefer Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek--TV, movies, and novels--over Rick Berman's.
I look forward to replies--if any--from anyone (not neccessarily in Brooklyn, NY) who'll never let Gene's vision die. Thank you.

Re: Any Brooklyn Trekkies Out There?
Sun, July 9, 2006 - 2:39 AMI can't help but wonder what would make a Brooklyn Trekkie distinctive?
I saw Commander Riker just recently shopping with his wife the soap opera queen. Nobody cares about him round here (Maine) it's LAURA they want to drool all over. -

Re: Any Brooklyn Trekkies Out There?
Sun, July 9, 2006 - 10:21 PMI may as well be straightforward. My intention is to find Star Trek fans I might be able to recruit for an AOL/AIM online Star Trek sim group I belong to. We're looking for members who enjoy a structured RPing environment of a sim as opposed to the more "freeform" style.
"Sim" means "simulation". It's different than other RPing chats in that the members of the group may only play Star Trek characters. They can be totally made-up or can be from any Star Trek source. That includes the TV versions, the Star Trek movies, or the novels. Copyrighted characters are forbidden (e.g. no "Capt. Kirk" or "Spock").
Members *are* allowed to play Vulcans ( *similar* to Spock's alien race), for example. The group *won't* allow something like a sorceror who casts "death" spells. Neither sorcerors nor magic exist in Star Trek.
"Freeform" means just that: Free. Anything goes. Unfortunately, "anything" often means terrible "fights"...often to the "death". We discourage such outright "murder", even though it's only RPing (RPing=roleplaying). Fair play is always supported by the group's members.
I'm starting in Brooklyn to see if I get any replies locally first. If there are sufficient responses, I'll cast my net wider...as far as the entire tri-state area ( NY, NJ, CT) and even beyond, if I can. I might even try other countries if I'm successful enough.
I don't run around wearing fake "Spock" ears, but I feel that Star Trek is a worthwhile persuit. If there are any fellow Star Trek fans interested in the group I represent, please show your support for Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek by taking a moment to post a reply to this message. I'll give any and all respondents the group's URL "link" to its website...and then, I'll let *you* be the judge of whether we're worthy of your time...or not. Thank you. -

Sun, July 9, 2006 - 10:25 PMFinal note: The group's "sim rooms", though on AOL and AIM, are also compatible with other instant messenger clients such as Trillian, ICQ, IRC, etc.
