Re: SOCal Group?
Fri, June 9, 2006 - 2:37 PMShit, you know I'm down for this...
I've done some exploring in LA, but some of the coolest
abandoned places, are also pretty dangerous...
A lot of the buildings were used by gangs
for initiations, etc...

-
Re: SOCal Group?
Mon, June 12, 2006 - 11:12 PMI am up for it.. but unfortunatelly I have a house guest starting this saturday and going on til next sunday.. So I am unavailable until the weekend after that...
If you want to go on a mision to find a few places and scout the area, that woud be awesome.. I would be ready to jump in with camera and all once my guest leaves! :) -
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Tue, June 13, 2006 - 2:18 PMAnd since the guest happens to be my mom, I am out also, until mid-July...
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Tue, June 13, 2006 - 2:20 PMYeah I'm sure we could plan another meet for a couple of weeks fro now, that we can.
I'm really lucky to have been apart of a really large Urbex community, because I know of alot of places in the LA area. But I don't even know half of whats out there. So any ideas for new places would be great.

Re: SOCal Group?
Tue, June 13, 2006 - 11:38 PMyou're a spaz in the best kind of way! without such, life would greatly suck.
I guess the prison would be a safe bet.
suggested gear:
flashlight(it's really dark in some places)
dust mask/respirator(lots of dust and bird shit)
gloves(its really dirty and gross)
camera (lots of industrial things and rust!) -

Re: SOCal Group?
Wed, June 14, 2006 - 1:52 PMat what time can we go exploring these places? i think the best time would be around sunset.. when you still have light but its nice and warm to balance the coldness of the dirty place...
and when are we gonna go check it out? -
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Wed, June 14, 2006 - 2:58 PMI was thinking one trip this weekend and one two weeks from then. And maybe a couple of small scouting outings.
as well as time I find that mid afternoon is a really good time to explore for lots fo reasons.
1) its alot less suspiscious to see a large group walking around in the day than at night.
2) when exploring a building at night its easier to see our lights from the outside
3) plenty of time and daylight for photos.
4) enough time to meet up, get in, explore, ect. by the time we make it to the roof it'll be sunset and I'll tell you it's quite the sight.
how I see this one is meeting up for lunch in the area(around union station) driving/ bussing out, getting in, exploring floor by floor, ending on the roof, then exiting.
one concideration is that the building is used for filming so sometimes there are film crews.
anyhow thats how I see this working out and how it worked in the past. but I can always do things differently if need be. -

Re: SOCal Group?
Wed, June 14, 2006 - 11:04 PMthen I guess i will be joining you in 2 weeks... since I cant make it this weekend.
sounds like fun! i look forward to checking it out!!! :) -

Re: SOCal Group?
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 4:08 PMI find that daytime is a lot better for photography.
Night is better if you just want to scare yourself.
But yes, many times it is illegal, and trespassing, so being there at night
is often a bad idea, because people will see your flashlights, and call the cops.
People wandering around in the daytime is a lot more understandable by the cops.
They get a lot more paranoid, and trigger-happy, at night... -
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Fri, June 16, 2006 - 12:40 AMfor those who will be joining us this time around lets meet in front of union station and decide from there. Lets say 12:30pm. this ok? -
-
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Sat, June 17, 2006 - 10:27 AMwell it's saturday today I'm going to be heading down to union station in like an hour. I hope to see some of you there, and if not hopefully in two weeks. . . -
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Sat, June 17, 2006 - 3:21 PMI just got back from downtown. And no one was there:(
but actually I'm glad that no one showed up, I went down to the prison and the way that I get in was sealed, so If a group was to show up I would have made an ass of myself. so in that sense. . . Cheers! -
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Tue, June 20, 2006 - 5:58 PMSorry, but we had relatives visiting, and could not get out this weekend... -
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Wed, June 21, 2006 - 3:04 AMYeah that's fine I just ended scouting that day. But since that prison is no go for awhile we need to find another place to explore. Also someone else should plan the next one because that forces activity from each person. kinda like taking turns planing. -
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Wed, June 21, 2006 - 11:06 AMhmm.. I have no idea as to where to look for a good abandoned place... we are out of the loop this weekend too since our guest will still be here.. and next weekend is 4th of july weekend, which I think is already booked too.
sorry we happen to have a very busy booked july already too! with getting ready for the LOJ ball and the comicon/xanguin ball... there just is not enough time to do things..
DAMMIT!! its times like these that I wish I wasnt working.

Re: SOCal Group?
Thu, June 22, 2006 - 3:45 PMI was watching the behind the scenes DVD from "The Devil's Rejects", and they mentioned shooting a lot of it in an old abandoned chicken farm out in Palmdale. The desert is full of a lot of really interesting old buildings, that are very rustic... Ghost towns, old mining facilities, etc... -
-
Re: SOCal Group?
Thu, June 22, 2006 - 4:05 PMwould be fun to find that kind of thing. -

Re: SOCal Group?

forays to abandoned places
Mon, June 26, 2006 - 1:12 PM
I just joined.... mostly because of this post...
I am really interested in joining the search....
I had warehouse space in long beach - by the river... there were some great exploring spaces at the time... most have been boarded up and/or gentrified.
