PDX ,OR New Theatrical Burlesque/Circus Dance ensemble seeks "Rain Dolls"

"C'est La Guerre"
is seeking 4 dancers for a new dance/performance ensemble
"The Rain Dolls".
Though rooted in burlesque style this ensemble is NOT strip
oriented.

What this is : a 5 member ensemble that embraces a vintage ( PRE-1930's) dark aesthetic -
A random selection of influences :
Victorian Circus,
Steampunk,
Weimar Cabaret,
Storyville/Southern Gothic,
VERY Vintage Fetish ( no vinyl...none....at all...ever.)
However, we will not be anchored to vintage music.
At this time we are looking to build the ensemble- as it progresses, there will be
the opportunity to perform on a solo basis -and even explore burlesque performance.
right now though, we are building a solid group.
It cannot be stressed enough that this ensemble
will be themed with set characters that written for you.
You will be able to contribute-- but ultimately,the final call will be with the artistic director.

What this is not: The Pussycat Dolls ,Cutesy Retro Burlesque
or yet another underwear clad dance ensemble that prances to "Fever"--
To quote our artistic director "I'd sooner kill myself".

Qualified applicants possess:
-dance and stage experience
-an ability/willingness to be directed and choreographed and costumed.
-a high comfort level in wearing skimpy costuming.
-a willingness to shed one's usual image for a stage persona
-knowledge of Tom Waits and all he implies.( o.k. that is half true...but it is important)
-fearlessness
-a strong interest in any of the influences listed above
-an ability to commit immediately to
2 weekly rehearsals during the first month (1 weekly after the 1st show)
and at this time- 1 monthly performance ( 1st show July 3rd) .

**There is no height or weight standard
although, we are seeking one member who is 5'10 or
over and can dance well in heels.

-guaranteed pay for performances.
-the opportunity to perform in quality shows.
-the opportunity to be well promoted.
-great photos of you in fantastic costumes.

no dance experience required- just a desire to join the circus and a stronger desire to show off.

9 year burlesque veteran Bella Beretta sets her sights on Portland.
The founder of The NW's first burlesque troupe The Gun Street Girls.
Returns to her hometown of Portland to spread the gospel of D.I.Y T&A
to Rose City Vixens this Saturday @ Euphoria Studios.

A four hour intro to the ABC's of T&A with
the award winning " Queen of Punk Burlesque", Bella Beretta.
This sampler workshop will cover burlesque basics
with a simple dance intro to the bump, grind, shimmy and strut.

Bella will also give a costume "show and tell" on
the basics of glitzy crafting and provide an opportunity for Q&A.
The consummate (and constant) entertainer-
Miss Beretta pulls no punches (and spares no punchlines)
when it comes to dishing the truth about burlesque,body image
and the highs and lows of being a d.i.y. showgirl.

The fee for this workshop is $40.00
Every attendee receives a 20.00 credit towards future
"You Show Girl" classes that start in Portland in November.

History of "You Show Girl" Burlesque Classes.

"You Show Girl" Originally opened it's doors in Los Angeles in 2004 as "Girl School" These classes were created to give women of all shapes sizes and backgrounds the opportunity to participate in the ever growing Burlesque scene.

Professor Undresser Bella Beretta combines 9 years of experience as a burlesque dancer with 16 years of theatre experience, to give you the full spectrum of what it takes to not just be a girl with a feather boa, but a Burlesque Performer.

Whether a student is a seeking an opportunity to step outside of daily life, in need of artistic release or is looking to create a future as a burlesque performer this class will arm them with the skills ( and teach them a thing or two about rhinestones) to showgirl and showoff!

As a student you will be taken through all the steps of
constructing a costume, persona and performance.
This program is geared to show you how to do it well,
build it your self and find all that fabulous at reasonable prices.

All of this work leads to you building a performance piece to be performed at a graduation showcase in a local nightclub at the end of classes.

Portland Institute for Contemporary Art's Time-Based Art Festival [PICA T:BA] starts in the first week of September.

On Saturday, 16 September 2006 [the same day as our Societas Insomnia Show], there is going to be an artistic discussion about "The New Burlesque". David Weissman with Taylor Mac, Julie Atlas Muz, James Tigger! Ferguson, the Wau Wau Sisters, and Zebra [Sissyboy] will chat about the intersection between burlesque and performance art.

After 7 years I've finally come home!
But I need to know...does the following exist in The Last Frontier?
- Burlesque
- Go Go Dancing (this is not stripping...ever seen a diva on a block at a dance club?)
- Belly Dancing, Indian Dancing (Kathak)
- Fire Eating and other circus tricks

looking for people to assist with putting on a night along the themes of swanky loungexotica, soul, beat, go-go, burlesque, spy-fi, RnB, jazz, ez/sleazy listening, trip-tease and more!
the bossa nova ballroom. i will be dj-ing there on 1/3rd thursdays, but would dig help in getting people out, putting something together, making it more. would love to hear, to discuss ideas, music and wild times!!! no egos, just tunes, entertainment, debauchery and fun!

We are moving and there is a bunch of stuff I don't have time to have a yard sale that I have decided to give away.

WHAT: It's Never Too Late to Have a Happy Childhood

WHEN: 4:00PM, Friday, October 14 thru Sunday, October 16 (you can stay until Monday at 1:00PM if you wish)

WHERE: The Gorgeous Anderson Lodge. Prepare for a magical treat. Surrounded by forests on top of an isolated hill. Hiking trails,
awesome sights of nature, a huge hot tub, fireplaces, outdoor fire circle, very private. All the amenities you can imagine.
Oregon weather in mid-October is magical; 72-82 degrees, the leaves turning rainbow colors as the season changes.

WHY: We all share common goals. We want to be happy, joyous and free. We want to celebrate life and love every day. We want to experience spiritual growth and transformation. Trans: to go beyond, to go beyond form.

Every spiritual path has a common statement from the Bible to Native American, Buddhist, Talmud etc......."Except you become as a child, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven", heaven being your Higher Self. One spiritual master teaches you will never activate your Higher Self unless you approach it as a five year old.

This event will be structured to teach us to live in the immediacy of the moment with joy, glee, uninhibited play and celebration.
Young children have an amazing sense of freedom, lack of modesty and they live in the moment. For that reason, this event will be clothes optional.

Games, ceremonies, rituals, a very special ceremony for releasing the past. A coming together of the tribe in a spirit of love, compassion and childlike celebration. Baptism into Eternal Childhood. Don't expect long winded circles of talking. You will be DOING every moment!

This event is not exclusive. By all means invite those you feel could be a future part of us, a coming together of different tribes who hold a common purpose.

THE AGREEMENT: We encourage there be no alcohol or drugs until the final ceremony Saturday evening. Then it will be party time and anything goes.

Children create natural highs by being totally present in each moment. Many times adults use substances to achieve a state of uninhibited play. We are going to experience that high in a clear authentic organic state. This natural state of childlike bliss is but one of many gifts awaiting you.
No "Booze Cops" will be present. It's your choice.

No closed doors. Please bring a box of crayons and a water pistol or water gun. Be prepared for the water fight of the century in childlike nekkid glee! Please bring your favorite sayings and inspirational messages for the Angel Tree. Also, I have 60 bottles of bubbles in my office for a bubble blowing extravaganza.

Gifting will be everyone bringing an inexpensive toy that you will eventually give to someone your Higher Self guides you to give it to.

Be on time for each event. We will start right on time!
7-10PM,Fri., 1-4:30PM Sat., 7 til approx. 9:30PM Sat.
Sunday at 3:00PM coming together for a final circle and closure.

COST: $85 per person. Limited Attendance!, first come, first served. This is peak season at the lodge so it is a bit more expensive. As it is, we were able to broker a lower price. It is possible we can eventually offer a $5 to $20 refund, but we need to make sure we cover the expenses.
HERE IS WHERE WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! Since this is the peak season, we need to come up with over $1,200 in deposits.
So we REALLY need some very prompt payments to cover the deposits.

We would also be eternally grateful for any cash donations to cover Sunday morning community breakfast, scholarships for anyone who cannot afford to come and the cost of materials for the event. This could easily run as much as $10 per person which is not included in the cost of the event.
