I am supposed to start school for Acu/TCM in Hawaii in September and the universe is pulling me to a different geographic locale pretty forcibly. My old acupuncturist mentioned having an apprentice and saying that it took 5 years to be eligible for licensure instead of school (3 1/2). Does anyone know anything about this???

Re: Apprenticeship versus school? Does anyone know anything about apprenticeships for Acu/ TCM?
Sun, August 10, 2008 - 4:54 PMOn page four of the ACCOAM candidate's handbook it says:
"The Apprenticeship Route for the Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology Certifications will be eliminated as of
12/31/2010"
Which is a total bummer. I wanted to apprentice (in fact, started to apprentice) under my practitioner back home. I ended up having to leave the state and move to PA in order to find a school that I liked. Good luck. -

Fri, August 15, 2008 - 5:10 AMSorry, my fingers went dyslexic ACCOAM should have been NCCAOM. I should have double checked my spelling before I posted!

Fri, August 15, 2008 - 12:11 AMAnother down side is that I dont think* you can take the national board exam. Some states allow it but not others. However, if you finish a University program anywhere on the west coast, then you should have the requirements to practice anywhere (above and beyond the national standards).
