audio channel drop off in premiere pro CS3

Im editing software in CS3 and had an audio nightmare on a video I made. Sound dropped off, the microphone wasnt recognized, when I got it to work there was a serious echo. Now Im only capturing audio in one channel. Both channels play in other applications. The computer is a PC running XP with a Intel 2 duo processor.

Im capturing using CS3 with Matrox HDV native through a matrox break out box in HD through the camera. When I capture through the same breakout box with a different device in SD the sound is fine. The audio problem is not in the settings.

I have soundmax audio loaded and have had to reload several times. It has had problems seeing the microphone in the project also. Periodically the control panel for sound max is inaccessible. Ive searched for new drivers without luck. Is this a software or hardware problem?

There is no external sound card.

I am new to Premiere CS3 and looking for suggestions. I currently own a 7gb Macintosh G5 with duel monitors. I would like to know what other equipment I should have to be able to produce quality video presentations. I also own a Sony HI-8 camcorder and a sony SVHS recorder for playback and dumping to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

converting VOB files from a DVD to edit in Adobe Premier Elements

Could anyone recommend a way to convert a VOB file from my family DVDs to edit in Adobe Premier Elements 3.0? I have a sony 201 camera and it burns DVDs directly to a disk in the camera. I've read through some stuff on the web and it seems very complicated to convert stuff over. Is it possible to buy software that does this? If not, could you recommend a different camera where I could just plug in the camcorder to the laptop and not have to go through this step? I have window's vista and a Dell laptop I bought last month.

Wondering if anyone's come up with a smooth, and not so time consumming/export/import processs of doing a chromagreen shoot and edit wit Production Studio?

I'm working on a little personal project that I've got a bunch of green-screen clips that I need to edit, put in transitions between people, then bring that into AE ultimately and ad in other elements. Has anyone done their chromakeying & transitions in PP prior to bringing that into AE? and if so, what format have you been bringing into AE?

my system: PC, XPpro, Matrox RTx2, 4GB, 2 TB RAID

Files types accepted by Premiere

This is probably a very simple question to answer, but depending on the answer, it may raise some other more interesting questions.

That question is: Can Premiere support any other audio file than soley mp3?

I have just been allowed the use of music created by Moby, and I downloaded it in its original format, AIFF. Premiere will not import this file type, and I know from the past that it has problems with other audio file formats also.
(If others are interested you can make a very easy application to license released and unreleased music of his if you are going to use it for non comercial projects for free, and he says that should you need to extend the licence for comercial use he will make it easy and affordable. Check out: http://gratis.moby.com/film-music.html).

Does anyone know the best way to import audio files into Premiere to maintain the best quality possible?

If it only accepts mp3, is the loss of quality from the orginal format really that acceptable?

a judder in progressive scan capture

Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone can give some advice to help solve a problem I am having with Pre. Pro 7 and capturing footage recorded in 25p (PAL).
When there is movement in the shot, say an upward tilt, the sequence gets a small judder about once a second. When it first happened I thought I must have set something to NTSC, but no, it is set to PAL and at 25 f/s. I have tryed setting the capture to; no filelds (progressive scan), and lower fileds first, neither has any positive effect.
I have tryed capturing from both a small SonyDCR-HC1000 and also the camera it was filmed on, a Panasonic DVX 102b. I am on a PC platform, and have tryed adjusting as many setting related to capture as I can find, all to no avail.
Has anyone experienced this before, or has anyone got any suggestions about this.

Cheers
Jon

Titles Blurry

I can't figure out why my titles are blurry: I made them with the title maker, they're just basic still text over the video. When I set my edit line over them, or when i scroll through the timeline, the title image appears clear. But when I press the "Play" button, the titles become blurry. They look almost as if the fields are off-set.

I am trying different fonts, but with the same result. Still trying...

This is apparent in the Timeline and when I export a movie. Any guesses?

(PS: Anyone else can make up a question to post so I won't feel so conspicuous here.)

How to make titles in other apps?

I think I need to try making a title in another application, import it into Premiere, and see if it is just as crappy. Can anyone explain how I might do this with Photoshop or illustrator?

I'm familiar with the former, afraid of the latter, and both of my first attempts did not yield good results.

In Photshop I exported a gif transparency with the transparency assistant. I got a crappy looking title (looks very low res) but it did import. Trouble is, it behaved just like the titles created with Premiere! I watched it go all crappy when playing.

In Illustrator i could not get a usable result. But here's what someone else said I should do:

"My solution is to make my titles and credits in Illustrator, import the ai file into Premiere and animate the file in the time line, perfect text every time."

So all I need to learn is how to make a title in illustrator, and how to animate the file in the time line. Any clues?

The DV Device is unavailable for Device Control!

I've solved this myself several times in the past, but today its not fixing. I'm sure I've forgotten something basic and simple.

My camcorder is definitely connected to my Mac via Firewire, yet Premiere refuses to see it, despite:

Toggling the Device Control in the preferences,

Turning the camcorder off and on while connected,

Turning Premiere off and on while camcorder is connected and turned on and playing,

Turning the Mac off and on with the camcorder connected and turned on.

This did work last week with no changes since then. So, what did I forget?

Specs:
mac mini, dual Intel processor, OS X 10.4.8, Premiere 6.5, and I had noodles for lunch.

An AVI with a built-in alpha channel

I have a teeny clip, about 20 seconds long. The subject is a small table with some stuff on it, with a high spotlight on the table. The edges of the frame are all black (this was a dark room). in fact, MOST of the frame footprint is black. I'd like to loop that 20-second piece of footage, oh, about five times, say, and export it as an AVI, which will eventually be composited into another piece of video.

The thing I want to do, however, is add a feathered alpha channel around the red table.

The reason is that Inside the composite, it's mostly black and I want to put a lot of tables in there, so I'll be dropping this (and other similar video clips) in all over the place, and I want the edges to feather out to, basically, transparent.

Can I do this in After Effects and if so, how do I do it?

Thanks!

Very annoying video drop during capture

I have a Mac Mini with Premiere 6.5, and my problem is with the capture. I'm using an older Digi-8 camera, by sony. This camera has worked just fine in many past projects, even with this same computer.

Despite having tried every capture setting change I could find to adjust (audio sample rate and compressor) I keep getting this problem. I've tried capturing with the batch capture and manually. I've closed and re-opened, I've trashed entire projects with clips and started over from scratch. Yet I am still getting this strange effect.

Oh, I've also cleared out a bunch of large files, clearing off 30 gigabytes of disc space, to no avail.

What happens: During the capture, at any point between 300 and 1300 frames captured, the capturing will pause, though the video continues. It then goes for another little while, and again the capture pauses while the video plays, then capture starts again. The result is a clip with neatly removed sections of video. You'd never know that it wasn't an in-camera edit if you weren't watching it happen.

My fear is that it has something to do with the hard-drive speed, but I have captured with this device and others on this computer before, with no such problem.

Is it my camcorder? my genes? Any ideas?
