Quashing rumours

topic posted Thu, March 27, 2008 - 3:10 PM by  Bridie
I heard on the grape vine this morning that a rumour is going round that this year's Gothla is being held in a Catholic girls' school, and that they have asked to see DVDs of all the performances before they will allow it.

This is the most hilarious thing I have heard in years, and is completely untrue! I am not aware of the religious leanings of the people who run the British Dance Theatre Association, where a lot of classes and the hafla will be taking place, but they certainly have not demanded to be able to vet any of our performances!

You've gotta love the old rumour mill though, eh?!

Just goes to show it pays to be mysterious ;)

It is a brilliant rumour. If only we'd thought of it ourselves!

OK - who started this rumour?

But it's the perfect place to premier my own unique take on 'Personal Jesus' - bring on rubberclad nuns.

It was probably YOU that unintentionally started it with the Personal Jesus stuff! :P

You know how these things snowball!

Alas, no I wish I'd been that inspired! :-) I heard it from someone who's coming and just thought it so bizarre I told them they should contact you direct to check... it's really funny though, did you get a lot of calls about the rumour?

I think Rosie's reply was directed at Mistress Lucretia - damn Tribe and its dodgy reply threading!

Anyway, I only got one call about the rumour, but the person in question was quite concerned, and very relieved that I told her how much rubbish it was. We have no idea how it started, but I take it as a compliment that people are at least talking about the event!

As for the souk, we were finding it hard to find a suitable location for a souk, and rather than have it somewhere inadequate, where the souk organiser would have to fend off complaints from both vendors and customers alike, we were on the brink of pulling it. Thankfully, that has not had to happen. If you are interested in trading, please contact Mistress Luctretia to register your interest.

Yes, I haven't forgotten those who have contacted me and have a list of who got in touch and when - but being involved in vending myself, I know what hard work it is, and we want folks to know the score about setting up, packing down, potential numbers of punters, location, ease of access etc before rushing ahead and having somewhere unsuitable. So if we do have a souk, all you punters need to spend spend spend to keep the traders happy (and out of mischeif - they just get bored when there's nothing going on).

PS .. I went to an Easter themed dressy up thing on Sunday (- ok there was only me and P who did dress up, except for some floppy bunny eared goings on) dressed as.......The Lord Jesus Christ himself....as Depeche Mode would say. Of course I didn't start the rumour, blame my dad - God.

I remember last year I really wanted to look around and buy stuff at the souk but I was far too busy killing myself with classes.

It would be great if the souk was open before the masterclass, or if there is space between classes or before and after. There just has to be a time when it's so obviously 'shopping' time because there's nothinng else on. It's just that it's so fantastic to get the gothic classes you have to make a decision between time for a workshop or time to shop :-) sadly that reduces the punters actually physically available.

Good luck, it was great last year, and I'm sure it will be fabulous this year too.
