I recently received my long awaited first pair of Melodias through the post from America. As I am very petite, I’ve struggled to find a pair of tribal trousers that aren’t ridiculously long on the length. I managed to find a pair through the Melodia ebay store with a 27inch inseam. Whilst I love these trousers and they do fit on the length just about, I’m a bit concerned that after a little shrinkage they are going to be slightly too short.

For this (very unfortunate) reason I’m trying to find them a new loving home where another petite person can finally have a pair of tribal pants that fit without the time and effort spent to make a pair themselves or have some custom made.

They are BRAND NEW and have only been worn when trying them on to see if they fit. I am not looking to make a profit, I just want to sell them on so I’m not out of pocket and can then buy a pair that are an inch or 2 longer.

This link displays them:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

So again, they have a 27 inch inseam
Size Small (I’m a UK size 6 and they fit great but there is enough stretch for larger sizes)
Are fringe pants (the fringes are tied on either side to accentuate hip action!)
And are (deep) red in colour

Please get in touch ASAP if you want them, otherwise I’m going to try and send them back to America for an exchange within the next few days. I may be listing them on eBay in the meantime, so get in there quick before they’re snatched up!

I paid $91.72 with postage which was converted to £58.62 for them, plus I had to pay the Royal Mail £16.60 as they were imported from the US. So that’s £75.22, but I’ll round it up to £77 to account for postage. I live in London, so will only post them to people living within the UK and perhaps Europe.

I cannot stress how difficult it has been to find tribal pants with a short inseam, so if you’re also on the small side, get in there quick!!

Contact me at this email address to arrange payment and postage (or if you live in London I can come and meet you in person): m.agathangelou@gmail.com

A bit of fiendish fusion using basic moves where you will learn to dance like a zombie/vampire cross and learn a fun piece of choreography to Rob Zombie 'Living Dead Girls' with the option of possibly performing it at the Sunday Hafla. Even more shocking, she will be doing a 'normal' stick technique workshop on the Sunday! Go to www.faridadance.com/events.htm for more details

I heard on the grape vine this morning that a rumour is going round that this year's Gothla is being held in a Catholic girls' school, and that they have asked to see DVDs of all the performances before they will allow it.

This is the most hilarious thing I have heard in years, and is completely untrue! I am not aware of the religious leanings of the people who run the British Dance Theatre Association, where a lot of classes and the hafla will be taking place, but they certainly have not demanded to be able to vet any of our performances!

You've gotta love the old rumour mill though, eh?!

We recently released a debut album. It's a mix of electronic and arabian styles. We're hoping it might appeal to the belly dance community. Please feel free to have a listen on myspace where we have four full tracks available to listen online.

(Hope this is ok to post here)

This just came to my attention.

"In remembering the case of a Lancashire couple, who recieved an horrific beating, for the way they were dressed and, in which an innocent young woman lost her life, the Alternative & Gothic community puts forward that the definition of hate crimes should expand to protect subcultural people where the law is concerned.

Most gothic/subcultural people regularly complain of being harrassed, abused, spat on or attacked for the way they look, having done or said nothing to otherwise provoke this. People who prefer ‘darker’ fashions; who sport facial piercings, alternative makeup or dyed hair regularly experience being singled out on these grounds, by the less tolerant. When this escalates to physical attack and, in this instance, death of an innocent person, it is clearly unnacceptable.

According to the home office, the definitions of ‘Hate Crime’ include race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation and disability. We feel this list should also include: “On the basis of personal appearance or subculture”. "

You know the drill people - if you're in the UK and agree with the above statement, please sign the petition here: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/goth-hatecrimes

Cheers.
http://www.gothla.co.uk/downloads/gothla-performance-regform.doc

*Please note that this is primarily a Gothic Belly Dance event and we are therefore looking for bellydance performances with gothic/dark influences.

We would also like to stress that this event is not 100% TRIBAL, or 100% CABARET, so please, do not feel that you might not be tribal/cabaret or even goth enough to attend! At the end of the day, this event is about fun and theatrics, as well as enjoying bellydance and meeting other like-minded artists. As one of the committee members once said: "If you think you might belong here, you probably do!".

On behalf of the Gothla UK committee, we look forward to seeing you there!

Darkest Blessings,

just a reminder that London Edge - the UK's largest ALTERNATIVE fashion trade fair is back from 4th-6th February.

It's Trade Buyers ONLY, so if you run a shop (even an online one) and want to have a look for new inspiration, it's well worth going to look at!

http://www.londonedge.com/home.asp

I'm off to see it on the Sunday as buyer rep for one of my side projects... if you're there and you see a short gal with shoulder-length dark brown (real) dreads wearing (platform) new rocks and walking around with a tall guy with long, blonde curly hair, there's a chance that's me and my boyf... so come and say hello!

It's a fantastic convention... and the food ain't half bad either! Let's hope we can interest them with bellydancers and the like for up-coming shows.

The event is now so huge, they're taking it to NYC this year!

So excited!!!

Quick question and/or promotion of an event for shop owners and costume designers/engineers or anyone with an eye for ‘alternative’ fashion.

Is anyone going to London Edge this coming weekend? (it’s on Sunday – Tuesday)

I have a buyer’s pass (which entitles me to free entrance + goodie bags + free gifts etc…) but I don’t think I’m going down. (I also don’t want to masquerade as a buyer when I’m not one), though if you do own a shop (online or IRL), it is an amazing place to get some ideas, meet creators of alternative clothing (think big names like Alchemy, Cyberdog (CYBERDAWG!!!!) etc etc). Also big alternative make-up businesses (like Stargazer et al) are there.

I would love it if Melodia had a stall there – then they could have some tribal bellydancers at the event, which would obviously ROCK!

Anyway, the website is here: www.londonedge.com

If you miss it this time, it will be held again in Jan/Feb time. It really is a great event.

Still, excellent night!

(I was so goth, I bit someone and drew blood (at their request). \m/)

Looks good. Lots of people will buy it. Possibly even me. But what do we think it will do for the alternative bellydance scene as a whole?

I worry that it will stifle any creativity that people may have left. The other GBD DVD has already spawned dozens of clones, both good and bloody awful. My greatest fear is that once you begin to categorize what _is_ Gothic Bellydance, or even Alternative Bellydance, you start being able to say what _isn't_ Gothic, or alternative.

Please let's not go down _that_ route.

I'm asking this as i recently got the chance to perform with a breakbeat dj in a club atmosphere, but on stage with my own lighting & costuming specifications. The entire experience was pretty mind blowing. It's amazing what you can come up with when you don't have the restraints of other dancers' expectations. Its funny, i seem to be spending a lot of time dodging the bd constabulary lately!
