Re: women in Afghanistan
Sun, February 5, 2006 - 8:11 PMthats a great peice shooter. its good to see the people of harat are having a chance at something we take for granted in the west non government controled programing,or at least thats what i gathered from your artical,am i wrong?well i see you have adopted afghan dress ,has that made life for you a little easier with more freedom of movement?is it true most of the afgans are sufis, i have also heard the people of the kyber pass practice a form of islam seen no where else, and it has semetic roots.
this must be the trip of a lifetime!

Well, if you saw Herat today on BBC, it was pretty hairy. I've been out of the streets in Kabul the last two days and look Afghan enough that I haven't had any trouble. They have been killing people a lot this week because of that Danish cartoon. Most of Afghans are Muslim but there are some Sufis 2 hours East of Herat, and the people from Vakhan were some of the last to adopt Islam. I haven't been there. I live in Afghanistan now. It's more than a trip.
