Images removed from gallery

I see that many images have been removed from the gallery... Including 2 that I posted. Why is this?

Anais Nin fought censorship all her life. Looks like she continues to be victimized by it. A photo that I posted was removed too. Tribe allows members to remove content that they find "offensive." Obviously, this was a malicious act, as the removed photos were hardly "offensive" by any interpretation. Perhaps some small-minded, self-righteous prude is "offended" by Anais in general. There needs to be some sort of accountability for those who remove photographs. A system that permits removal of content at the whim of an anonymous member is seriously flawed. "Guilty until proven innocent" is hardly the American way.

Please note that any image of Anais Nin posted without permission is in violation of copyright by the Anais Nin Trust.

I was personal friends with Ruppert Pole, the deceased last husband of Anais Nin, who was in charge of the Anais Nin trust, and I know for a fact that he would not have had an issue with anyone posting images of Anais Nin on tribe.net. Perhaps if the posting of images was connected to the selling of these images, I could understand, but this is not the case! One of the images that I posted was a post card of Anais that I bought in Paris. I suppose I will just have to list the photographers name.

I hope that does not violate that terms of TOU!! >:-\

Kenneth Anger is a lodge brother of mine. If the Anais Nin Trust asserts that it has the right to control the use of images from his films (such as the photo I posted), I will see if he is aware of this assertion. Perhaps he will want to take legal action against the Trust for false representation, or some other infringement of his rights as a filmmaker.

the images I posted were from her diaries that I purchased. And I think I did site their source. I think this is ridiculous...

The images were posted by all of us as a CELEBRATION of Anais...

Exactly, Tenille! Anyone who has read and understood the works of Anais Nin would know that she would be appalled by such arrogant, petty and absurd behavior in her name.

You might want to review this site. The best way to celebrate Anais Nin is to purchase her books.

          Sara,
Please answer my question regarding whether the Anais Nin Trust claims control over images from the films of Kenneth Anger. Otherwise, please explain on what basis you removed my posted image of Anais Nin from Anger's film "Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome".

            Hi Keith
We *only* asked for images to be removed that were taken from www.skybluepress.com
www.skybluepress.com/mirrors.html or were Trust owned images.
Recently some of the same images have been appearing on cafepress and other such sites without our knowledge or permission and goods are being sold for the sole benefit of the store owner - not Anais.

I believe you were referencing another image that may have been removed at an earlier time by another party? I don't believe the Trust has any concern/ownership of Kenneth Anger images ... and you would have to ask him about that as he owns the copyright to his own work, surely? ... Sara

              Sara,
The image that I posted from Kenneth Anger's film was removed at the exact same time as the other images. Looks like the Anais Nin Trust needs to be more careful about how it throws its weight around. Believe me, you don't want to anger Kenneth Anger.

Do you think you observed fair use? If so, Tribe may have violated your rights to free speech, which might be a gray area since you are a member of a so called online community who can maintain (and does) arbitrary policies.

Copyright law is very complicated, evolving, especially with regard to the Internet.

If I was you and I was angry enough -- and I am about Tribe's limiting free speech using the excuse of anti-Semitism employed against arbitrary groups so that I am going to hold tribe accountable -- I would fight for my rights. As an attorney once said to me: you only enjoy the rights whose privilege you can enforce. These things start with anti-semitism or an anais nin image, but where do they end . . . ?
