Greetings and much respect Yeye!
I am so feeling you on this subject.
As priests and priestess to the Orisas we must always remember that we are first and foremost SERVANTS of the Orisas and the devotees. We are not deities as some folks would like to think of themselves. None of the Orisas, including Orunmila is supreme to Ori anyway. All of the Orisas must bow to Ori, including Orunmila, who is the prophet of Ifa. Ifa is the Oracle and Orunmila is the prophet who walked on earth. Olodumare held him accountable for the for devotees in accordance with Odu Ifa (Oyeku Meji) until he found that the devotee's own Ori had chosen that destiny. So who are any of these babalawos to declare themselves the supreme being is my question when this is not done in Yorubaland, the seat of the religion?
I gotcha on every point Yeye. And I'll go a few steps further. In Odu Ifa, when ebo is complete and successful, the person praises the diviners and THEN the diviners PRAISE the Orisas. Now that tells one something. Even the diviners recognize they ain't the ones! They are just the "conduit." Now let's look at it another way. Ori, which is supreme, led the individual to the diviner in the first place. Ori makes the decision to perform ebo or not. No priest be it an Olorisa or Babalawo can force the decision to perform ebo on anyone. And this "selling" of hands of Ifa is wayyy off. What if it is not the destiny of the person? With Ifa we are talking about "FATE." He is indeed "Eleri Ipin" which translate to "Witness to Creation." He was there when all the fates were sealed with Olodumare. OLODUMARE sealed those fates, we cannot forget that, Orunmila did not. He was WITNESS to it. So if Orumila was Eleri Ipin, Witness to creation, then wouldn't HE know who needs what? Not the individual Babalawo, who says contact "me" if you WANT this or that?
Yeye at some point folks own Ori has to kick in, that is the first line of defense. If Ori says "warning warning danger danger" then at some level, that person's defenses should go on some sort of "threat condition" if the person coming to them IS a babalawo. Initiation does not a babalawo make. I'm going to say this, sound like SOME of them are working on degrees BS, MS and PhD. Yanno the ole saying...
Much love
