Hi in my Vedic chart Dhumavati is my ruling goddess. I know she is one of the Ten Mahavidya's and some further info. Yet very little in depth is available. I would love to hear from this tribe on the Goddess and her worship here. Thank you!

Where can you get a good Vedic chart? Dhumavathi of course is the widow with the crow emblem. She is toothless, ugly, tall, with large nose. She widowed herself by eating Shiva. She is present in loss, aging, death, deserted areas, ruins, widows, house with quarrels, etc. To learn more about her, you should get a Tantric Guru who is knowledgeable on the Dasa MahaVidyas and their Sadhana, I am sure if this is the Sadhana that the Guru feels will benefit you, he or she will guide you in it's practice. It's true that there's not too much detailed info about the MahaVidyas, as most of the info on them is secret and passed down from Guru to Disciple when one does Sadhana of the Mahavidyas. A lot of Mahavidya Sadhana can be used for good, but it can also be used to harm, so I am sure that is why most of it is secret to keep people from abusing it. Most people associate MahaVidya worship with the gaining of certain Siddhis. I am not an expert though, you would be best to consult your Guru. The other things is, most MahaVidyas are wrathful and can be dangerous. One cannot really worship the wrathful ones because many of them are the manifested powers of death, decay, destruction, bad health, bad luck, anger, etc. You can use them to overcome these things however if you have a very good gurudev to show you how to do Sadhana of the Mahavidyas, Mahavidya sadhanas and worship is powerful and many times, it can be very dangerous and requires you to be in the Smashan which is no place to do any kind of spiritual practice without a Guru because of the many angry and wrathful spirits, and other dangers present there. A lot of people will say these days you don't need a Gurudev, mostly because of the confusion and ignorance of the Kali Yuga... And it may be true for some small things, but for Sadhana like Mahavidya Sadhana, you must have a gurudev. Others may say differently, but it's much much safer as far as I am concerned if you have a Gurudev that can help you if you make a mistake or provoke the wrath of an Wrathful diety like Dhumavathi.

So there's my two cents. Like I said, I am not an expert, I am not a guru, I am just a child of Maa and I am lucky to know about some things. You are better off consulting someone who is qualified by their gurudev to be a guru, and has mastered their Sadhanas. But I hope that what little information I have given you has been of some use.

    Jay Ambae Maa!

      Jai Ma!
      and thank you Rasa!
www.cyberastro.com must know minute of birth.
yes the warning is well headed and well understood thank u ! This one here is very aware of the aspects of the Mahavidyas especially Dhumavati. Having read and would recommend "Tantric Visions of the Divine Feminine- The Ten Mahavidyas" by
David Kinsley which was excellent. Also have gone to the Kauai Hindu Temple/ Himilayan Academy/Iraivan Temple . There they have
installed after I went the first time the Ten Mahavidyas what was very interesting was that the last one was hermaphrodite??? Anyone here know about this??? They do have some incredible Murti's www.himalayanacademy.com/ssc/h.../tour/ it's an incredible place that is an amazing pilgrimage.

Being that Dhumavati is my ruling Goddess and the Rakshasa's (yes the demons) are my guardians, this one here deals with cemetary's and dead people and things for quite some time so it all made sense to me, once checked my chart myself AND was done by someone experienced.
Recommend cyberastro.com it has great free info find your minute of birth and long/lat's too. Cyberastro's info matched a reading I had the next day with an excellent reader.

Amma (H.H. Sri Mata Amaritanada Mayi) often has vedic readers that read when she is there for donation that goes to Her charities. I hear they are very good although I did not personally see them.

Something unusual happened with my reader. My last question to him I asked about previous lives and to both of our amazement (since this was absolute proof for us both)
he said word for word what a very gifted clairvoyant friend of mine said several months earlier (free and a friend) Both had accurately described verbatim that I had been a small village medicine man who cured a king (nameless) and was given his daughter hand to marry after curing the king. Unhappy with a cheating wife, I had stayed faithful in marriage and to children etc lived a long life. He added (what the previous reader did not) that I worshipped Dhumavati then. Interesting to was the fact that the reader worships her and showed me his amazing alter to Dhumavati in his former home. I can say with certainty he is a reincarnate reader having been one in his last life. Saw his photos and books that were written by his former self firsthand and has confirmation of that in India AND he reads sanskrit. The photo evidence was undeniable and his knowledge outstanding. His name is Jade see hiddenmoon.com a bit on the expensive side but an excellent reader and I felt well worth it. Checked the facts day before thru cyberastro.com hey matched his research and he was able to explain the many meanings of planet positions and how this all relates to myself and the reading in an expert way that was easlly understood.

So back to Dhumavati- yes she is a Goddess of the cemetary and loves ashes and smoke. Very little about her in depth. Other sources I have seen that contain great info on any ancient texts is
www.sacred-texts.com outstanding translations of a large variety of ancient texts even sanskrit that has not been translated before this site existed.
There are two main myths about Dhumavati
The first that she was born when Sati burned herself on her fathers sacrificial fire or was burned on that fire after she committed suicide. That Dhumavati appeared from the smoke. Sati's form continued physically in the form of smoke/Dhumavati.

the second is Sati consuming Siva because he refused to give Her food. After She regurgitated Him because He pursuaded Her to. Siva then cursed Her to assume the form of the widow Dhumavati. These are short explanations to be sure.

This all is very interesting for me since I am tall thin and a messed up nose. My Hindu name from Amma is Tushita which in Hindu culture pertains to the fire Gods from heaven as well. Fire performer, medicine woman who has HAD temporary short term occupation of a strong female spirit maybe Dhumavati or Pele related inside me (she's gone, she had work to do and its done) , has spoken to a number of dead with accuracy and confirmation, and have always loved smoke ;)

      Jai Ma

Himalayan Academy installed a Mahavidya temple? My boss and his family are in that church, and the way he spoke of it, it seemed that the closest they get to worshipping Devi ever is Ardhanarishvara (The Lord Who is half Woman - Shiva and Shakti in one body, and probably the hermaphroditic Deva you mention, altho Ardhanarishvara is not a Mahavidya)

They don't have a Mahavidya temple but on the temple grounds are the ten Mahavidya's. Yes strangely enough with the 10 there was a hermaphodite. Unfortunatly no photo and none on the site. They also have a Kali by one of the biggest mother trees one could ever hope to see. The Kali and the Mahavidya's are installations that where not there when I first went in around 99 or 2000? I saw them in 06 in July there. Shocked me too ; but happy to see them. The gold statues inside the temple are astounding as is the entire place. Had some very auspicious things happen there with Subramanya and Nadinatha that would be very difficult for me to try to even explain in depth. In short the 1st time I was with a male friend named Caitanya on the first visit and had a meeting with both Subramanya and Nadinatha even though it was the middle of prayer time they came out greeted us and invited us in! a year later Subramanya left this Earth and then. Almost two years ago had a solid jade bracelet fall off my arm at the doorway to the temple right in front of Nadinatha. The moment it landed in front of the sacred cooper doorway temple entrance it started raining and Nadinatha and I started laughing, smiling looking into each others eyes and he told the visitors is was nothing to be upset about and that was a wonderful auspicious sign. More stuff happened but it would be hard to put it into words. Guess I should write the temple.

that is odd. I haven't seen any configurations of Dashamahavidya that included a hermaphrodite.

the Saiva Siddhanta church that runs Himalayan Academy is not for me, but I definitely respect them. I've had nothing but good dealings with their members.

I have actually heard this before. It is sometime said that Matangi is actually both male and female. It's just a speculation, and I don't think it has any scriptural basis.

I beleive I read this at this page: www.geocities.com/rigvedsam...atangi.htm

It alludes to the fact that Matangi is third sexed, bi-gendered, or transsexual in some form as she is Mohini in the form of an outcaste? I am not sure how this person brought this all together, but it's interesting.

    Dhum Dhum Dhumavati Svaha
Dhumavati means she who is made of smoke in sanskrit. it also means cigarette!
Someone pumping the Dhumavati vibes can put up a big smoke screen that the "bad energies" cant see though. providing protection.
Perhaps this smoke screen is or is represented by her "vile" or "ugly" form.
She came to me in a dream. On an art piece. I later drew it up, crows and all. Turns out she's hidden it from me! Its gone!
Her Sadhana is done on the dark night of kali. She is worshipped as the void, the space between things.
    Cheers. Chatianya

What do you mean by bad energies? All energy is a manifestation of Maa Shakti. So what part of it is actually "Bad". Dhumavathi could be considered bad because she causes loss of life and decay in the Universe, but yet without it the Universe would be stagnant.

“Desire and aversion” are more objective categories than “good and bad”. We call things we desire "good" and call things we feel aversion towards "bad".

This tendency to divide the world up into good or bad is the "fall" of the Judeo-christian genesis story. There was no sin until we ate of the fruit of the tree of -knowledge- of good and evil. In other words, conceptualizing things as "good" or "bad" is the root of "sin" and suffering...
