I get up to get some water in the middle of the night. My wife also comes out to get some water. I was sleeping with my 3yo and she was sleeping with our 6mo. She says that she woke up, felt a cool breeze waft over her and there was this cloud over her and the baby, a dark black cloud that she felt was demonic and was just laughing at her. And that she felt she couldnt talk. She prayed and it went away. So I got some water, sprinkled with mantra, did arati to devi and siddhas and everyone individualy asking for clearance and protection, applied bhasma to everyone and lit dhoop, and said some prayers such as Shiva raksha stotram and devi kavacha. Things were fine for the rest of the night. I did same as a preventative measure the next night and everything was fine. I did nothing the next, but the night after that, I sat down to meditate a little before sleep (not sure how much was meditation and how much was sleep). I did feel a cool draft go over my feet. At first I didnt even care to look, but i remembered my wife and children, so I looked, but saw nothing and didnt feel anything negative. but my wife woke me up in the middle of the night to say the baby wasnt sleeping well, which happens alot anyway at his age, and that she started having nightmares again. she said the bed was shaking (something i have also experienced). So I put this before you good people for comments/knowledge/expreince/advise? Thanks to all in advance/

Whatever gets you through the night. If you have a clear light in your heart, nothing of that nature can touch you. -

OK, but that doesn't help the normal guy-on-the-street very much.
The imaginal realm and the things that inhabit it (however you choose to conceptualize them) respond more to our thoughts, feelings, mental conceptions and images than to anything else. The most interesting advice I've heard is that frequent reflection on the emptiness of self will "confuse" such imaginal beasties and after a while they will conclude that there isn't anything to bother after all, and they go away.
I've never tried it, as I tend not to pay too much attention to the few "strange" experiences that occasionally crop up. That brings up another issue. Paying attention to the thing that is freaking you out almost always magnifies it.
Warm Regards,

I imagine the light of clarity just blows them out of existence.

Re: Dark shadow and shaking bed
Sat, August 22, 2009 - 10:06 PMJames,
Put some whole dry red chilis under the bed of your wife and burn it the next morning. If the smoke doesn't smell of chili you can be sure of some evil spirit or energy around your house.
When the test is over and if you are sure of the evil energy put a open bowl (iron, stone, clay, or glass) with water at the northeast corner of your bedroom. Do all your pronouncements of mantras that you have mentioned into the water. Evoking Mahakala conceived as a blue-black light by the mantra of AUM HUM PHAT (7 times). Keep a black cloth with a lemon bound in it in the south-west corner of the concerned room. After 16 days of this practice if you are convinced that nothing more is happening throw the water in some flowing water stream, river, or a big lake, and the black cloth with the lemon in a graveyard or cremation ground.
If still it doesn't work go for personal help in exorcism.
Adesh!
