What's is everyone's opinion on Bhang Lassi. We all know it's sacred to Shiva, and that it should be taken on Maha Shiva Ratri, as well as other spiritual occasions. Any opinions, experiences or special recipes?

Mon, April 14, 2008 - 12:10 PMI make a sweet much like that.
My recipe for Bhang candy. I use as much organic ingredients and quality things as I give it as a offering. Also please note, whatever you do with this recipe is your business. I will make a note that this recipe is intended for worship purposes, and that I am not condoning any illegal activities of any kind as per the laws of your country and state. It of course contains the active chemical THC which is a psychedelic substance and can and will alter your mind. If that is what you want to do then do it, just don't blame me for what you do under it's influences.

The oven is preheated to 385 degrees, The boiling point for the active substances. It should be no higher and no lower.
After cleaning the Bhang flowers from the stems and removing seeds, I chop it up with leaves as well. I throw it into a mortar and pestle (or skull and arm bone if you prefer haha) with a bit of ghee, milk and rose water. Then I add dates, tiny bit of oat flower, sunflower oil, dried bananna, almonds cashews, cranberry, papaya, coconut flakes, and coconut oil, I grind all of this into a paste with a very thick and moist consistency. I usually match the amount of the flowers and leaves with the same amount of the rest of the ingredients. (don't ask me for exact amounts, I am not the most exacting of people).
The paste can the be applied to some stoneware or ceramic or whatever you like to bake. The surface can be coated with a mixture of coconut oil and ghee. You can make whatever shapes you like and apply to the pan. It might be best to roll them into balls, but I would wear probably some food handling gloves (the clear kind) because the oils absorb into the skin. Put them on the pan, and I cover the tops of these with pure Jaggery sprinkles. (date palms sugar)
If you have been given a mantra for Shiva, it would be good to repeat it constantly while making this, especially if you are giving it to him, or whatever mantra you are led to use.

I was sent a link to an article by Knunt Movik called "Bruk av cannabis i shivaitisk tradisjon" (Use of cannabis in the Saivite Tradition) this morning. So far, it looks quite interesting.

Even if you can't read it, it has a useful bibliography:
