*NEW* 6-week intro series starting Tuesday, November 11.

Tribal Fundamentals:

This 6-week class will cover all the basic moves and cues of American Tribal Style belly dance. These movements are the starting place for either tribal group improvisation (ATS) or tribal fusion belly dance. You will learn both slow and fast steps along with the visual cues used for leading and following. By the end of the class, you'll have all the building blocks for more advanced exploration, whether you plan to solo or dance with a troupe. Only $75 pre-registered. No drop-ins.

6 Tuesdays, Nov. 11-Dec. 16, 6:15-7:15 pm

Also, my ongoing, mixed-level tribal improv class is moving to Thursdays:

Tribal Improvisation:

This mixed-level class gives you the opportunity to build on the basics of tribal belly dance. You will learn more advanced variations, layering and combos as well as get practice leading and following with a partner and in a group. Students should have some knowledge of the basic tribal steps (taxim, body wave, hip bump, arabic, egyptian, 3/4 shimmy, etc.) and ATS cues. $15 drop-in or $110 for a 10-class card.

No Hip Drop tomorrow - showcase CANCELED

The Hip Drop belly dance showcase scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, has been canceled until further notice. Alamkara was scheduled to dance tomorrow so we apologize if you were planning to come see us. We're hoping they'll have a new venue by the end of the summer, and that we'll be able to dance there again since it's one of our favorite showcases!

I have some sad news... Sameerah has decided to take a break from belly dancing and won't be dancing with Alamkara anymore! We will certainly miss her and hope that she'll rejoin our troupe down the road.

Meanwhile, she has agreed to continue as Alamkara's official costumer, so look for us to be wearing more inspired and adorable creations from Wicked Harem in the future!

Soooo, here's what you all (okay, maybe not "all" but *some* of you, or at least a *few* of you) have been waiting for!!!

Hiplash finally has a video on YouTube!! Yay!!!! I am so excited! The video is of our performance at the monthly showcase, TaXim in Eagle Rock, CA. It was so much fun, and I think we had a pretty good show. Solace played live music, which was amazing as usual. We even had an encore presentation after the crowd shouted for us to come back out! (well, they were shouting... hmm, maybe they were saying something else?) ;)

Summer vacation is almost over!

Alamkara's summer vacation, that is!

I just realized that we haven't performed (other than a private party) since the beginning of June, when we had a troupe feature at Dar Maghreb and Cairo Carnivale the same week.

Our next scheduled performance will be at Anisa's bellydance showcase at the Time Out Cafe (12516 Riverside Dr. in Valley Village) on Wednesday, August 8 at 8:00 pm. This is a great, casual setting with Middle Eastern food and hookahs!

We'll also be dancing at Princess Farhana's showcase at Moun of Tunis (7445 1/2 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood) on August 21 at 8:00 pm. $22 gets you a fabulous Moroccan dinner and the showcase. Call (323) 874-3333 for reservations.

First, Alamkara has our debut at the Bellydance Showcase hosted by Jamilla at Dar Maghreb on Tuesday, June 5! The whole troupe--all 7 of us--will be performing together for the first time. We're doing a troupe feature, so you get all-Alamkara all night long!

We're throwin' down with Unmata in March!

I was totally bummed because we just missed the deadline to perform at Tribal Throwdown... But today someone cancelled, and we got in! Yay! Alamkara will be joining the likes of Hiplash, Subee Djinn, Desert Lotus and She'enedra on stage in Berkeley--March 17th. I can't wait!

Parking on the street or dirt lot adjacent to the studio.

Dance in the Desert

Alamkara performed at MECDA Desert Communities' event on Saturday, January 27th. Thanks to Blume for inviting us, and to everyone who came out and supported all the dancers. We had a great time and look forward to next year!
