Mira Betz workshop details

It's this weekend!!! OK, here's the scoop:

The show is on Friday, June 27 at 8 p.m. at the Empress Theatre. It's located downtown on 3rd Avenue. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., so dancers need to be there before the doors open!

To get to the theater: From Airport Way, turn north onto Cushman Street (most likely a left turn unless you're coming from the Army base). Stay in the right lane and turn right onto 2nd Ave, then circle the block to get to 3rd. The theater is across the street from a Thai restaurant. It has signs, but not a big, fancy marquee. There is on-street parking, but it is limited. Be careful using the parking lots, as the one closest to the theater is reserved 24 hours for a local hotel. There is parking along 2nd Ave, and you can also park at the corner of 5th and Cushman in the Sadler's lot ad walk to the theater.

The workshop will be Saturday and Sunday, starting at 9:30 with yoga led by local instructor Trista Haycraft. The workshop will be held at Artisan's Courtyard on College Road. Please plan on showing up early. Some people will need to fill out registration forms, and I'll need to collect lunch money if you ordered a catered lunch.

Also on Saturday, several dance groups will be going to the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre Renaissance Festival on the UAF campus. We've got a 7:30 time slot to perform at the festival, and I encourage everyone to come out and support the theater. They were nice enough to let us use their space for our show, after all! If you are dancing, I will need you to fill out a short performer form for FST's records, and I'll need to collect music from you as well.

If anyone needs to reach me, my home phone number is 479-4898 and my cell is 687-5341. Please note that I do not have cell reception at home!

  • More details:
I met with the production manager of the theater today.

    * We will be able to get into the theater after 6 p.m. on Friday.
    * The stage is roughly 30' wide and 15' deep. There will be audience on 3 sides.
    * There are four entrances/exits to the stage, roughly on the corners of the stage. Please be aware that one entrance is ELEVATED. There is a step up, and then a step down in the dark.
    * We will be able to cross from side to side backstage if needed. Please do your best to keep your costumes quiet!
    * Our lighting options are limited. We can ask the lighting tech to raise and lower lights, but we will not be rehanging any lights. I anticipate that the lights will mostly be fading in, staying on and fading out. No fancy, seizure-inducing lights!
    * There is limited seating in the makeup area, and we will have use of some of the back dressing rooms. One room will be reserved for Mira Betz only.

Finally, here is the rough line-up for performers. It is open to suggestion until Thursday evening, then I need to get stuff printed. If I do not have your stage name listed, I do not have your stage name. Please get it to me by Thursday, otherwise you'll be listed under your real name.
