    Hi Krista,

Welcome. Both Anchorage and Fairbanks have fairly large diverse dance populations in a variety of styles. Teachers collaborate often on a variety of big projects and we all tend to pitch in and support each other, whatever is going on. A variety of workshops are held each year by a number of different sources. I try to keep my calendar updated on my website...www.DanceBarefootMuse.com. It's an excellent place to live, create and dance. I look forward to meeting you.

Awesome! Saw you over on Sharon's tribe.

This community is pretty unique. We get positive feedback from outsiders about the uniqueness of our collaborative efforts. Thanks to the ladies that started the Alaska Belly Dance community scene.
There are a variety of performers, troupes, instructors with varying styles and backgrounds in Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley, and in Fairbanks. Well, okay also Juneau, and Kodiak, and Seward!
Anyway, we have a very active community. There's always something going on.
My website is www.gypsyhorizon.com if you want to check it out.

    Cheers!
    Carrie

I'm also going to be moving to Alaska in 2011, sometime over the summer if I'm thinking right. My boyfriend is in the US Army and is going to be putting in for a transfer to Fort Wainwright outside of Fairbanks, so when he gets back from his next tour in March 2011 we're getting married and moving to AK. I'm both ridiculously excited and absolutely terrified, since I've never lived outside of Colorado before... but I'm SO relieved that there's a tribal community in Fairbanks, regardless of how small it is! :-D It'll be like a crazy little taste of home.

I'm hoping that I can get up to do the Sharon Kihara workshop in May, depending on how much it is, how much airfare from Denver is, and what time in May it's going on, since I graduate from college sometime the second or third week. I'd LOVE to get up there before we move to get a feel for everything and meet some people!
